Sure you could consider #GG a first world problem and marvel at all the wasted effort going on when it could be directed towards more pressing and serious issues instead. But if you take the stance that #GG is a mere insignificant issue, if we as a human race can’t even solve small fry bullshit like #GG then what hope would we even have tackling on the larger and more serious issues of the world? If we prove ourselves here, then this can be an example of what we’re capable of when we all come together, and may actually inspire future causes.
And plus, to say that nothing constructive has come out from all of this untrue either. Large sums of money have been raised for charities in response. People have become aware and educated about one-sided, misinformed news reporting. Thus, they become to resistant to these manipulative tactics whenever they cross paths with one.
Edit: like Lord Raptor mentions, this doesn’t cancel out all the bullshit mudflinging either, but people are being fed up with such behaviour and are actively discouraging and policing things to minimize and hopefully rid the stomp it out entirely. It’s not sunshines and rainbows just yet, but steps are being taken in trying to achieve one.
GamerGate isn’t small fry, it’s the microscopic algae that exists on the mud of the bottom of your boots after an hour’s worth of wasted effort fishing. To even try to compare it to the real problems that exist outside of our sheltered world is offensive.
And i’m sure the money raised is great and all but there will be lasting damage left in the minds of those that gamers desperately (and to be honest, will forever be ) trying to convince that games and gaming should be treated like any other hobby or medium.
Genuine apologies if i sound cynical but i just don’t buy this as being a big thing or even an important thing.
Are you doing anything about any of these problems?
If not, why are you posting here instead of going out and fixing them?

so realize that everyone else wishes they had the power to fix all the world’s ills, but can’t, but have found something here they believe they can affect and that matters to them. so this is where they are putting their energy. they don’t need to answer as to why they’re not doing something more important.
it always goes both ways. you could ask the “other side” why they aren’t fighting in places where women are raped routinely or have acid thrown in their faces and instead are focusing on shaming people who play video games into silence. it would be a valid question. but they’re still going to focus their attention here because it’s important to them + something they can actually have an impact on.
It tends to get confusing which side people are talking about specifically when #GamerGate is mentioned.
Is there a more definite name for people that are against gamers?

This all SORT OF reminds me of when xbone and PS4 released and where it was a fact that PS4 had better hardware
but xbox fans would continue to be in denial and occasionally say something senseless and stupid like
"but the xbox is powered by the cloud" and “the cloud gives the xbox more graphical power”.
