Game that lost its "golden age" and you miss those times

There are so many great platformers on steam right now. Super Meatboy, Dust, Castle in the Darkness, Splunky, etc.

platformers are still strong, just pick up the ps3 collections for Jak and daxter, sly cooper, and ratchet and clank. Of course mario games are still pretty good for wii and wii u

Sly 4 was top notch as well.

R.I.P. tank controls. Whenever I tried to go the right way, I ended up in circles. May you forever live in our hearts. At least until FF7 Remaster and RE0 HD are released.

I played sc2 a lot out there in socal. Against guys like aris and semi, tietyt etc.

I played up until just after the 2g parry glitch really became mainstream. Glitches aside such as all the cervy shit that would eventually be found and stuff, sc1 and 2 were by far the best games. Sc2 had its issues with turtling especially with players like jf Keith and stuff, but still, the game made way more sense in 1 and 2.

In 1 and 2 the game played unlike any other game really. The 8 way run system was great and allowed easy sidestepping of B attacks and the characters were constantly moving on the 3d plane which made the game A attack heavy… Which was good since the B attacks were always the power moves. In sc1 and 2 you really had to setup your B attacks and almost every move in the game, because of the parry system had a use. Unlike in tekken where more than half a characters moveset was almost entirely unusable.

But subsequent versions of soul calibur would see the 8 way run system highly nerfed, which resulted in much more linear back and forth movement… Like tekken, and they also reduced the advantage of parries making parries more and more unuseful, and I the end the game played just like tekken but with swords, and no identity.

And so went soul calibur. I’ve always wanted namco to get their heads out their asses and make the game back into a 3d movement parry battling game… But namco gave up on that and now all theyv ever wanted is to try to make it into tekken.

So yeah the entire series should just be scrapped. If you want tekken… There’s always tekken.

I would go back to playing sc2 if the glitches were all taken out and there was a scene. It was by far the best version of the game ever produced.

That final battle was complete ass though. and don’t get me started on a certain plot twist in the latter parts of the game. But overall sly 4 was OK. Sly 2 is still my favorite though

Unreal Tournament 99, 2003 and 2004. It’s all I wanted to play as a teen. Lost my entire clan to WoW, was never the same after that. It was fast, twitchy heaven. Then Halo came out and every FPS from then on after felt like you were walking in molasses.

Oh, and Mechwarrior and Mechassault. Basically all the pre-Halo/Modern Warfare Xbox Live games.

the first 3-4 years of ultima online. no other mmorpg past or present compares

@pyrolee

Yea last boss in 4 is pretty meh. Don;t really care too too much about the plot twist, it’s a Sly Cooper game the stories are silly Saturday Morning cartoon affairs.

Definitely a toss up between 2 and 4 tho I still like 1 a whole hell of a lot. That’s really what puts 4 up at the top for me. They combined 1 and 2 into one huge game. Massive hubs with spoke levels.

I’d say Sly Cooper is presented like a Saturday Morning cartoon ( why doesn’t this series have it’s own cartoon yet? ) but the story gets pretty heavy at times. I mean we start off with Sly’s old man getting killed, then we got ( Spoiler for those who haven’t played Sly2 nd beyomd ) Neyla killing Arpegio in cold blood and crippling Bently, Don Octavio sending a hit squad after Carmelita, Penelope straight up murdering LeFwee, Dr.M attempting to crush Sly to death, and the intro to Sly 3 where Dr.M hallariously informs that guard during small talk that he poisoned him. And Speaking of Penelope I’m sorry but Sanzaru made me salty as hell for her Betrayl. I mean I could accept it more if it was done better with more set up. But as it stands it just seemed completely forced for shock value. Like she claimed to have done it to show Bently he’s wasting his talents with Sly and is being taken advantage of and together they can achieve great things. But before that she called Bently dumb and uncomfortable to be around. And she expresses this hatred and strong desire to kill Sly, yet in Sly 3 she had a crush on him and admired him. So all that respect, admiration towards Sly and company just went out the window??? Bullshit.

What I think would’ve worked much better? If she was under the control of Ms.Decibel. Like it would make perfect sense. LaParadox wants a time machine to mess with Sly Cooper’s history and to forge a fake royal history. Penelope of course wouldn’t agree with this, so he has Decibel hypnotise her into doing it and working for them. Then after the battle with Penelope they realize she’s under this control, and in the middle eastern level they see Decibel is the one responsible. So in addition to freeing Saleem’s friends they free Penelope as well.

Yea I agree, I thought it was a dumb plot twist, but it didn’t ruin the game for me or anything. Probably helps that I never cared much for Penelope anyway. shrug

Nah it didn’t ruin the game, it’s solid. I’m just salty about it is all lol.
