Ok Manny i see your Point…i mean a couple of people have a reason…so ur excluded…what about the rest>?

Pfft. You all know I’m the best player in the Northwest Territory.

There’s pretty much no use using me as an example for a group of people seeming as I’m the youngest of our little group, but here’s where I stand:

I agree with Manny that responsibilities get in the way of a lot of things that we hope to accomplish outside of our daily agenda.
It’s pretty hard getting a decent-paying job here at my age, so it’s hard for me to attain and save-up money. I really wanted to go to Summer Jam, ECT2, and all of those other ‘majors’, but I just couldn’t find ways to make ends meet. Yeah, it’s 30-40 for entry and about 5-10 for actual games, but then I’d have to take into account food and rooming (especially if it’s a three-day event).

I’m not whining or bitching about not getting a job or whatever, it’s just the fact that there are some social obstacles that stand in my way before I’m able to travel. I really want to get better; I really do. SSFIV, BB:CS, SSFII:HDR, those games and more, I enjoy and strive to be better in. It just takes time, I guess…

Well it’s not really about being motivated to travel for practice, per se – we aren’t Japan – the U.S. is really spread out. Your best bet here is just to go to majors and get in as much casuals as you can, and talk to top players. No one can travel hours to play a videogame each week of their lives, that’s way too much for something that’s a nonpaying hobby.

And the importance of playing other games cannot be underestimated, lol!

nice random namedrops that dont make sense pretty safe from a call out on srk huh

The best Combat for Atari player of all time Charlie Riggs used to kick it back in the industrialized world with me and Lock n Chase Champion Ludo Jigsaw. One could argue the Luxemborugeons had the edge on us on 7800 but they didn’t know that on C64 Ghostbusters champion Ughre Sflalaughin and I would go back and forth, so I was ready for anything Europe had to offer when it came to Impossible Mission and Tick VanGowherts so-called “unbeatlable skills”

So in closing I am good at Street Fighter 2010

If I could travel out of state often to get in casuals with good players, I definitely would. But, unfortunately, I can’t. And that’s an issue with not only me, but others as well. Not everyone has the money or time to travel often enough. The fact that online isn’t as reliable as we’d want is even more of a hindrance. It sucks, but that’s just how it goes.

That said, Ghaleon, I do agree SSFIV is designed retardedly, but not specifically for the reasons you listed. SSFIV is basically a game of nerfed characters. There’s no one character that even matched vanilla Sagat, who really would’ve only qualified for a good character in various other SF games. The way Capcom goes about balancing characters is entirely dumb…making characters half-assed instead of just fixing issues that prevent characters from playing as intended.

yep u nailed it. more characters is how they make money. they want all these characters that dont actually belong in the game to co-exist, so they just nerf everything to the point where no match up feels oppressive. so you can use any character you want, but the game still has its best characters, with the added bonus that the game is really boring. i used to still enjoy watching ryu vs gat sf4 matches near the end of the games lifespan even tho i stopped playing it, but now i cant even stand to watch it. even daigo matches are boring to watch, i mean i always always liked watching him play, i love old school balls shoto stuff, and now he cant even save the game. damn how boring does it have to be for that to happen, i cant wrap my mind around it

Yeah, nerfing stuff is def the best way to make a game boring. See: Alpha 2 Gold, Alpha 3 Upper, 3rd Strike (argued by many), SSF2, SFIV, MSHvSF

i like upper :frowning:

And MSHvSF :’(

Yeah upper is fun but the alpha games are a lot faster and offensive so it’s harder to make them ‘boring’.

I’m not saying they’re terrible games, but no one played them in tournament – those “balanced” upgrades noooobody played in tournament because they aren’t as “fun” as the “broken” stuff. Same with HF being more balanced than ST – but ST is more “fun”. I don’t know much about 2I but it some ways it sounds more fun than 3s, esp since with a game like 3s there isn’t really anything new to discover in the game

2I is so awesome. Some people down here get games going in it every once in a while, and I think a couple of us like it better than 3S.

2I is marvelous because it is juggle city. PLus I love its aesthetics a bit more than 3s. Post-fight KO pictures and better backgrounds.

I hate that Ibuki is so good, she makes 3s yun genei-jin look like it needs to be buffed. Sean is so hot in 2I. EVERYTHING links into his SA3. You’d like Ryu in 2I becasue you got 2 meters for Denjin and those meters were the size of Ken’s 3s SA3 bars.

Also the DC port isn’t lousy at all like the 3s port.

I played one of the most simple and balanced games ever made (ss5sp) for years. Poeple hate ss5sp because they say it has no combo’s(it does they are just really hard). And they also hate it because its so simple. MOst poeple get bored playing it i guess cause it based on pokes. And you know what, i enjoyed every second of it. Thats why i like ssf4, its just like the game i came from.

To do rera’s (my main in ss5) BNB combo you have to input up for exactly one frame… pressing a button in one frame is nothing compared to pressing up for exactly one frame.

I dont think you need to travel. If you understand ssf4 well enough you can watch replays and pick up on advanced strat’s. Then use those strats in your own game while also making yourself aware of them at the same time.

I know you know what your talking about because how you talk about japanese players. They play a wall style. They go on pure reaction speed. Thats how they play every game. I think thats why usa own’s at marvel. Usa players are rushdown experts, japanese are master’s of concentration.

anyways i like ssf4, I like it cause it feels balanced and simple. But thats just me.

I like watching diago cause his reaction speed is crazy. But i think everything you said is right but i dont find that type of gameplay boring. When im playing its intense. Maybe not to watch but thats not really important anyways. And when i watch others play i see the situation they are in and feel the same intensity. SO thats why i enjoy watching ssf4.

more fun than ssf4

nah…jus sayin marvel and 3s>SSf4

What about experience? What about reading your opponent? What about tournament nerves? You think sitting at home watching replays is going to help in these aspects?
