I dig his Green Goblin color scheme.
My favorite is the stone gargoyle color. Probably going to use that one the most.
I really like the Blackheart and Green Goblin ones too tho’. None of 'em are bad really.
Yea the only one thats a bit iffy is the stone gargoyle because it looks similar at first glance to the black and red one. Other than that all his alts look top notch, the one I use is gonna be dictated by my team selection.
I think his alts are pretty terrible. Not visually, but in terms of Capcom not taking the time to look for inspiration with Demon’s Crest for stuff. Pretty silly that he has a yellow skin just to “complete the primary colors” - lol wut? I’m a default color kind of guy, so I am unbothered, I just find it amusing.
Blackheart color scheme for sure unless I want some color coordination.
Does he have 8way air dash? also how strong is his swag?
i have so many combos and tricks to test with this character.
I want to see how effective flight mode -> assist call-> command dash ->divekick or grab. Given the properties of his air command dashes he might have an easy time setting ambiguous cross over with an assist that he could easily combo off of.
To clarify, Firebrand doesn’t have a command grab.
Still gonna try him, though.
What do you guys think about Firebrand as an anchor?
Sounds like a dream come true to anyone looking for an anchor that isn’t Wesker, Sentinel or Akuma. Dude sounds perfect for my potential new team of GR/Hawkeye/Firebrand. Anyone seeing any problems he may have in this position?
If he has at least 1 good assist ( I don’t know what his are ), then he meets most if not all of the criteria for a solid anchor. He looks like he can build meter, efficiently use the meter he builds, do damage, has solo mixups, and a clone hyper… Unless he looks a lot better than he actually is, he’ll be a good anchor
Yea what ariel screw said, he looks like he will probably be a good anchor, an assist that has the potential to be decent(in the ground fire assist), the ability to spend meter like its no mans business, he might be able to create mix-ups on his own and he seems like he won’t have too many(if any) bad match-ups. I think he will be a good anchor.
He has “meh” assists. Why do I say this? Well, they are good for moderate space control near your character, and probably combo extension. Especially with zoning being buffed in UMvC3, it’s more important than ever now to have an anchor that helps you get in. Top anchor assists generally ensure that you can get past a projectile barrage, ideally while creating pressure on your opponent so you can mix him up. I don’t see this quality in any of Firebrand’s assists.
He can’t get a lot off of an air throw (at least of what we’ve seen; I haven’t seen anyone throw into his fireball and OTG, and then connect Bon Voyage). Those tend to be big weaknesses of an anchor, and the only top anchor that doesn’t have both of those drawbacks is Phoenix…and she’s Phoenix, haha. Then, a good anchor needs to be able to open up opponents solo. Firebrand seems to have good pressure and priority, but his mix-ups seem to rely on an assist or his level 3, which brings us to the question: are you really able to control Firebrand during his level 3, plus XF3?
It’s one thing to try and chip someone out like this as we’ve seen on streams, and another to intelligently control a second character while your own is moving at an accelerated speed. Personally, I just have trouble controlling Felicia along with Kitty Helper, so this is a concern I am conscious of.
All of these things considered, he will probably be a mid-tier anchor for most people, with the potential to be a top tier anchor if you can provide him meter and are able to finely control his level 3 hyper helper.
Firebrand looks a lot like a number 2 character rather than anything else. You get potential effective assist for combos/lockdown based on your team. The reason he should be number 2 is his supers. His fire-breath super will combo off most supers where as you can use his powerup super to safely DHC out a blocked super or just to switch out. Also if your point character goes down you’d be close to 3 meters for going crazy. He also has air maneuverability which is important as a character comes in from dyeing.
OK cool. His assists probably wont be godlike, but the ground fire looks like it’ll have some use. I wouldn’t say his assists look Wolverine level of bad. I’d put them at Taskmaster’s level, not the greatest but definitely usable.
What’s his air throw like anyway? I imagine something like air throw > downward fire > bon voyage > launch would work
And I agree about being able to control his level 3 being important. Honestly my idea with using him as an anchor was to just to stay in the air shooting off fireballs whilst spamming the clone’s swoop and dash attacks (basically something similar to what the dude does in the video at the top of the page)
His Dark Fire hyper will combo off of anything, but it’s like Shuma-Gorath’s Hyper Mystic Ray - you’re going to lose out on 99% of the damage when you’re doing it from a half screen away. He needs to be right next to his opponent to make it work. So, for DHCing, Firebrand should be on point unless your first hyper causes enough hitstun that you can DHC into Luminous Body and Bon Voyage off of it.
Because he has bad DHCs, “meh” assists, and has an aerial Berserker Charge (seriously, I think people have not comprehended how amazing this is), I think he’s meant to be on point. He might just be the safest character in the game right now.
That’s what I’m thinking, but his traveling Hell Spitfire has not been shown to OTG yet as far as I know. It looks like it would, but a lot of things that don’t OTG in this game look like they would. So, I’m holding off until I see someone do it. If someone has a record of such happening, please fill me in! It’d resolve one of my concerns about Firebrand, and it would definitely bump him up to being “high” as an anchor from a theoryfighter perspective.
I think this is setting your goals low, because if your opponent X-Factors then you’re letting him relax while you just burned X-Factor plus 3 bars for essentially nothing. I really think Firebrand players will have to learn to work their butts off when they bring the level 3 into play.
Good point. I’m an adaptable player so if I notice that antics such as that aren’t working, I’ll change my approach immediately. Of course there are gonna be some nasty offensive setups involving his level 3 so I’m gonna be looking to apply as many different ones as I can
Important question: Does the twin interfere with combos like Felicia’s helper? I remember trying to DHC glitch with Felicia and the helper would always screw it up
It definitely can, but I haven’t seen anyone even try to use it for mix-ups into a combo, so who knows how bad it is at interrupting Firebrand. I don’t think it will be as much of a problem because Felicia’s helper causes very little hitstun, and Firebrand’s causes a lot, so you should be able to “fix” your error if it happens. The helper also seems to chill at around jump height and hits at very consistent angles, whereas Felicia’s helper jumps and can hit in a variety of ways that screw you up.
So is Firebrand better off on point or as an assist? Cuz I couldnt find much of a use for his assists when I got a small chance to try him out.
So I saw an air dash, I see his auto flight moves, I just need to know what his power up super does, and I’ll consider this character. Seems pretty good, and his LvL3 seems ok. @Karst, I’m 80% sure I saw the traveling fire ball OTG someone, then FB followed up with Bon Voyage. Does he have a good wavedash?
