max i need ur help
Sigh, why bother. You’re not the most logical guy in the world. But why not?
10 years ago the world wide web was only 6 years old, 600 MHZ pentium 3 processors were modern, and everyone was either running Prodigy or AOL on 56k Modem. A 5 minute MP3 took 20 minutes to download. Where am I going with this?
Honestly the bottomline access was limited 10 years ago. MVC2 came out in arcades where very little information was exchanged amongst people. If you wanted to get some information on a game, you had to cruise through Newgroups. Not only that, you had to learn some new notations. Things like tri-jumps, using assist, team synestry were pretty foreign concepts back then. Let alone fast flies, absolute guard, guard breaks, and unblockables. All pretty foreign back then. Actually a lot of this stuff was discovered very early in Marvel's lifespan, but it was discovered in Japan. Very few had access to these videos. And even if you did, many top players viewed it as combo video flare, and nothing more.
So now you have a game, modeled after Marvel 2, and you expect people NOT to know how to do things? As if 10 years of knowledge would not be transferred over? If they basically made a game that was more like MVC2, you’d still see the same stuff on day 1. Why? Because people now know how to test and look for these things. That’s why. If you wanted a game where it take 10 years to figure anything out, then the game probably would be unrecongnizable.
Honestly what game that has come out in the last 5 years has taken 10 years to figure out. Fighting game players as a whole are far more smarter, more technical, and more intelligent than they were 10 years ago. Most people playing fighting games know what to look for, so of course they can just go into exploiting the system. When you’re talking about people like James Chen, Maj, Trag, Magentro who have decades of experience just breaking games, then it’s no wonder stuff can show up on day 1.
Honestly why even bother to try to make your post sound like their coming from a place of objectivity. You’re just biased, but I guess you sound like smart if you just outright said you were biased. But I would respect it more, because at least it’s honest. Honestly I’m waiting for a real critique of the game, not just a bunch of self proclaimed OGs dropping their jewls of faulty arguments littered with ad homs and strawmen.
When it rains…it pours
Co-sign this and yea most of the ppl that where great at the time the era of real skilled players where around really don’t give a FUCK anymore. noob/scrub era is gay all day and I don’t respect it at all, to be honest. I don’t think mashing directions and getting dp is skilled or whatever what not. I just feel that mvc3 is my last stand, i don’t know if i can make it to FR and stay committed to mvc3. Who the F has time like that anymore…O_o This is taking up way to much time already and about to hit it up right now but damn its just not the same anymore. either way I’m gonna troll and roll on GA starting with EP, then weak ass augusta, then cardell. That is all…Fuck this weak ass scene and its 09/10’’ haha yall really think yall are good, funny.
The rest of your post I am on with you which is very rare that we agree on something BUT this portion of your post is bulls shit straight up.
You say it’s not because people aren’t willing to get better, yet people quit games left and right for whack reasons.
How is it the top level fault??
Give me an example explain yourself so I can better understand you because it wasn’t Max,Joe,Myself or Ricky fault that Marvel died here, we played since forever,Bananas & Itachi came in pretty late coupled with Rishuno, they showed promise but no one else was willing to dedicate the time or effort anymore, plus the hype on TvC,BlazBlue & SF4 killed what little bit of people we did have who were interested.
Or do you mean the top players here currently are the assholes etc??
Just because people go to gatherings and beat you don’t mean they grinding, people in this state are still losing and complaining about the very same bad match ups in certain games, very same people still losing to the same characters and same people who play those characters, JTO still can’t focus dash ultra with balrog and I exposed that at the last revival yet you claim everyone is grinding??
I know you want to believe that but I live in reality, everyone not putting in work,a lot of people are just living off character ability, Ga stumps it’s own growth from non travel, lack of respect for each other and it’s scene, lack of knowledge so forth and so on.
The other half of your post was almost dead on though,I’ve told Pokchop & Magnicious about that Pot Split Bull Shit,Shinkuur knows how I feel about it as well but there is nothing we can really do as tournament organizers honestly.
i didnt even have to read ur post and i can already tell its filled with bs and doesnt even appeal to what i was really saying gtfo u have nowhere near the right to try and educate me or even respond to anything i post. If u can stfu in real life and be a scary lil bitch be the same online and STFU
Just ignore MvC3 and keep playing SF4 it is a much better decision give TvC2 a TvC treatment
Kamui was the character I was gonna pick up.
Oh my God… <_<
This is every thing that is wrong with society. I guess we should never form any kind of opinions of our own…
Preach it, man…
On a side note, I thank God for people like JasonL. He is a great friend to me. He can also touch on points that I stated before, but no one decided to even talk about until he decided to post about it. So, Jason, thanks for having my back.
i think the reason why georgia doesn’t compete with top players in new york and cali is semi-complex and then again, really not.
first off, georgia is at a disadvantage just by the nature of the beast. they have a bigger scene, in a smaller area, and therefore spend less time travelling locally for better competition. it also helps that they have old school gamers/top players, who have excellent fundamentals, so whatever game they take on, they, on average, are a lot better initially. but this can be overcome (especially in 2010/2011, xbox live and psn network…more xbox live though)
second, its just that people’s passion isn’t into the game. i can’t blame them, it is impossible for me to be passionate with sf4, or mvc3, no matter how balanced it is. i personally, just do not like the mechanics. my qualms aside, in order to be good at a game, you have to be somewhat passionate about it (preferably, very passionate). this means sacrificing in order to gain an advantage on your opponent, whoever it be. so if that means, after coming home from school and your job, practicing unblockable setups, or mixup setups, or crouch teching, or whatever strategy it is for a couple hours every day, thats what you do because your passionate about it. PERSONAL training is the #1 way to improve your game. not fucking experience or traveling, if you do not put in the necessary amount of time into training/practicing, you will not become better by tournament experience or traveling.
if you are constantly placing top 3 in georgia tournaments, then maybe it is time to consider traveling and meeting top players from other areas to play online a lot. but i just know from experience (not just myself, from observing other people that are good in other games) it is PERSONAL training that is the biggest key factor in determining how fast you advance. competition is a big key, but it will go nowhere if you do not take your losses seriously, and try very hard to correct the mistakes you know you are committing and shock the same person who beat you next time.
look at anakin, he didn’t freaking travel all over the united states to play tekken casuals. he only went to two mlgs. he doesn’t go to east point as much as many people believe. he puts in a lot of time by himself. he goes to east point to implement and try new strategies he has learned from personal training.
when mvc2 started, the east coast was not the powerhouse coast. it was west coast easily. i remember seeing/listening to an interview of jwong talking about when the game dropped, he was playing 10 hours a day (for around 6-9 months). i also remember listening to another podcast by jwong about third strike, and how he improved so fast. he told the interviewer he went into practice mode, on ps2, and put the computer dummy on random gaurd, and practiced landing c.mk super with chun-li on reaction, for 3 or 4 hours a day, until he had a success rate of 9/10. that is all personal training. that is what HE felt made him improve so fast. of course experience is a plus, but it is not the MAIN ingredient. if you want to be a champion at something, you need everything, personal training, travelling, experience, and some other minor things.
this is not trying to boast about my mvc2, but i sacrificed (more than i should have probably) a hell of a lot to get to the skill level where i was at. me and joe would play every tuesday and thursday (or m/w, i forget which), and grind for like 7-8 hours when we first met. we didn’t even speak at first. and i hated losing so much, i would go home and practice SO hard hoping to kick his ass next time we played. we recorded on a vcr some of our matches, then went back and watched them. it was not all work, it was pretty fun after we got into the routine. we started betting lunches every session, so shit counted. somebody owed somebody a damn #3 or whatever from wendy’s if they lost a 4/7. we went to florida to play mixup, sentinaaal, blazinflo, and dbs. and it paid off in huge dividends.
georgia can be wherever it WANTS to be. just right now georgia is content on beating up TN, SC, NC, maybe FL? AL? the passion isn’t there to begin to take shots at big name nyc or cali ssf4 players. maybe a couple players have passion, but if thats all, it makes it very difficult for them to stay motivated.
and about the splitting pot thing, who freaking cares. if you dont like it, do something about it. its not like they are holding you back. you dont have to split with them.
Oh yeah, you still feeling her? I’m crazy busy this week but I should have some new things for friday. See ya then.
exactly, when it rains, it pours
This is everything thats wrong with society ppl never able to fully comprehend but try to make theirself sound intelligent by taking something out of context instead of really taking the time to break down what was said. Then proceed to try and make an example of something they dont get. Not only do ppl not read they miscomprehend and take what they THOUGHT was said instead of saying. Hey… hes talkin about NOOBS not me. But the truth hurts I guess. On to the next one.
Passion & dedication for a game is the best thing which can fuel your skill in addition to having a competitive nature.
Soo, I’m new to the tournament scene, but from the South GA area, so figured this would be the place to get some info. I’m right around Valdosta, anyone know if any upcoming events around here within the next month or so? Or even near Tallahaseee?
You want to go to the Tallahassee thread then, as they have a few small tournaments and gatherings on a regular basis. I lived about an hour from you in Cairo, and the trip to Tally isn’t bad at all. Plenty of comp in most of the popular games and niche titles too.
Well a hand full of the few “good” Ga players have the ability to compete with thE best in the country. And lately I’ve noticed alot of people stepping up , we just don’t have the exposure for instance we don’t know if let’s say Rasheed would get aced by Sanford because it has never happened, don’t forget Rasheed and jto placed top 10 at final round last year , qnd they were super ass at sf4 back then.so to make a small story short GA has core talent but we have a huuuge amount of fat around the edges(really dumb fat at that)
This is no shot at max because I know he’s a gr8 fighting game player but…if your an “OG”(not max just in general) But you never placed, or made a name for yourself does it matter? Old or young a scrub is a scrub oO there’s alot of people throwing up that “og” flag who never accomished shyt in the era …it’s pretty annoying
I’m an “OG”… In tekken:sweat:
You are again throwing around the word accomplished like you all know our scene’s entire history like you all know everybody, everything and what all these people have done.
Shinblanka is considered an “OG” right, but when have you ever questioned his accomplishments, his placements in tournaments, tournament travel or anything like that??
You respect him for who he is,what he has done and provided for the scene,no questions asked after that!!
There are people who DIDN’T win a major or even place top#8 at a major but still brought enough attention to this scene before you and others existed, whether it be having the guts to face top players in money matches, team tournaments, just attending evo’s multiple times before you went to your 1st,teaching people how to play these games and a host of other things. Which re-visits the point myself, branh and a few others have, you all’s fucking ego’s are too thick!!!
You won a few local joints, I respect that, give you props but 2 seconds later you think your the end all be all,the overall measuring stick and that’s bogus.
“OG” don’t mean they have to live to “Cardell’s” standards or tier list or by what the fuck, or who the fuck he considers worth while,or who he considers “OG”,since when were you able to crown titles??
There are solid Smash Players here, with sponsorship and I bet you don’t know any of them!!
So they aren’t “OG’s”??
You all (Meaning the people who think along the path of the very last paragragh you posted)so busy trying to take shots today cause you all “Think” your on top but in all honesty your just at the top of your current game and need to get the fuck over yourselves!!!
Eric Jeffries a great friend of mine, very dedicated to the ATL Scene, was solid but considered average to some in everything he touched, Yet he was the founding father of the Sean Un-Blockable in 3rd Strike, he played and was also colid CvS2,KoF,Alpha,MvC2,3rdStrike,Guilty Gear etc.
You’ve never met Eric Jeffries, you don’t know him but ask Shinblanka about him,Max,Joe,Colin so forth and so on.
You don’t know enough to sit here and attempt to take pot shots at people cause you think your great or grand now.
Despite you knowing if that man I mentioned up above won a title somewhere, placed somewhere blah blah,he was detrimental to ATL’s Growth in multiple games, the knowledge he had helped others grow and that coupled with other things made him “OG”!!
I personally take offense to what you typed because in person you don’t say this shit,we had this same discussion like 7 months ago, you think you know who’s great or can some up peoples skill level cause you heard through the grapevine via some weak minded new schooler told you “Oh he’s trash I can beat him,he’s nothing” which is what a lot of you all do these days,go to these gatherings, shit on anyone who won’t bow down to you “God of Gaming” mentalities, rumors get started and drama occurs.
You should actually take the time to do some homework, Shinkuur came up with Shinblanka and his crew, he can give you a more in depth history lesson then I am willing to give!!
Guys like Bacarii,Dexter,Earwig,June Ro,Bane,“D”,PimpJuice,Kombat Freak,Myself, shouldn’t have to measure who we are and what we did for ATL to you as the measuring stick because in all honesty **“You” **haven’t done shit outside ATL either, especially compared to the standards you posted in your last paragraph.
You talk a big game about what you and the associates you know and are cool with can do when outside this state, the potential you have, you piggy back on that to get the people in the thread to flock to your side so you can win popularity contest, yet you the very same individual that slap em in the face and split pots or down play so and so skills, play a match up wrong, lose, then blame it on the stick or cause he was noobin!!
Everyone in the United States knows ATL Got possibly the largest mouths and Ego’s too boot but it ain’t cause Cardell went somewhere, raped somebody in Street Fighter,Tekken or whatever is hot right now, or learned it from him and his play skill.
As a matter of fact, they don’t know this because of anyone from the current new school era of Street Fighter cause no one in this current new school era actually qualifies under your posted criteria including yourself because even you haven’t met your own standard!!
I know your going to post back about what you did during your D.O.A era and im not shitting on that but at the same time i’ve said this time and time again, this is SRK,D.O.A gets slim to no recognition as a legit fighting game here, nobody here actually followed it,so in the end it’s like you never accomplished it despite the fact that you did,you have a history no one knows about, yet you don’t want it shitted on but your turning around and doing the very same thing to other people!!
And let me post another thing, don’t get it twisted that because you are pretty average yourself now or because you sit in a room filled with players who have won once somewhere or gotten close to winning somewhere, that they are the end all be all judges, don’t feel safe to assume you can sit with them then allow them to dictate who’s solid and who’s not.
Cardell I love and respect a lot of people on this scene, I think east point crew is cool as fuck BUT,Wing-Zero,JTO,Big-Boi,M.E.Red-ATL aren’t considered Street Fighter “OG’s” they are 3D “OG’s”, they are most known for the accomplishments in that genre, outside of Clint who is considered East Point, none of those individuals were ever seen playing Street Fighter,in a tournament,on a high level, until Street Fighter Vanilla, which means compared too today’s standards,in the Street Fighter Community they are all considered new school.
Don’t get me wrong,M.E. Red and Wing-Zero played HD Remix, were pretty good in it etc but once again, they never placed in street fighter, attended any tournaments outside ga for street fighter or won anything in street fighter nor made a name for themselves via street fighter.
We all respect them for who they are, great gamers who are solid in everything they touch, despite the fact you don’t see Big-Boi place top#8 or win,you still think he’s good correct??
Wing-Zero hasn’t been in a tournament since his early departure of Final Round but you still respect his skill level correct??
Mike is by far neck and neck with Anakin for the best Tekken player we have here but he doesn’t enter tournaments anymore either but you respect what you’ve seen him do in the past correct??
In the end,you can’t listen to them say “Oh he’s a nobody, fuck Iceman” or whomever you all sitting down talking about who do not agree with your posts, lifestyle or game playing ability because up until Vanilla, they gave 2 shits about the Street Fighter community, didn’t know anyone on it outside Clint,Joe,Max,Myself cause Dorian who wasn’t a tournament player.
Basically they know what they see now,if you want to shit on people because you can trash those non-dedicated players now,go right ahead but you will get as good as atl can get you an that isn’t far.
Also don’t forget,me being a tournament organizer and friends with a lot of organizers,I’ve seen people come here and post how they won 9 in a row at a tournament or how they got top#25 or how something noobie happen and they could have beaten so and so if…
Yet they continue to not live up to there own hype outside ATL and I personally have placed higher then many of these very same individuals who call me sorry, never accomplished anything etc and like BranH said, I am average,I put more time in effort into hosting tournaments, putting as much out there for you all to get the exposure you feel you want/need/deserve to the point I don’t really train in anything but tekken, yet I step up to the plate and finish higher then those who train everyday and pay there rent off these tournaments…
Hummmm:confused:
Hello everyone,
I see we are having good debates in our fair state and I would like to chime in for the old men of our scene. As an og player (winning countless sf2ww-st, cvs1-cvs2, and 3s tournaments) during the 90’s throughout the southeast region I think I’m qualified to speak on this matter. As an organizer of that has seen a lot of national talent come to our state I think I can judge our state talent compared to other regions talent. My playing days are pretty much over IMO. I simply don’t have the time or drive to be as good as I use to be at fighters. Back in the day me, Colin, June Ro, and Eric Williams was the best in street fighter based games in the southeast. During that time we played each other almost everyday for atleast 4-8 hours straight. I went all around the southeast beating on people while our best player Eric Williams aka earwig never traveled but would always get respect from other top players that came to final round. June Ro would travel all up the east coast and place top 3 all the time at past NEC and would get respect, but none of us played on a national level.
After a while we all started to move away from the city and our skills fell off due to not playing/practicing. Of course we are older and real life issues become more important than being the best at sf. While we still enjoy to play these games we are truely shadows of our former self IMO. Colin use to live with Jason cole in san Fran and everytime he come back to the ATL he would tell us we were as good as people in Cali or NYC but no one knew us in Cali because we never been out there to play.
Then we start to see this kid named clint starting to beast in capcom but he didn’t play with us at the DOJO that much but he would show up once and a while. We all knew he was a beast at tekken3 and TTT but we happy to see him compete and beat us in capcom games. Other players that I met during those days like iceman stated, Eric jeffries, Taurus, iceman, don mac, max, lil Joe (who is big Joe now), rashid, Charles, Sean Gilley, neidel(haunts), eli and Adam Cleveland, and fella’s were all great players in their primes in capcom games.
Right now I’m known for running Final Round and that how I got known nationally. I will never say I was a national top player. I might have had the skills to do it in the past, but I never proved it by not traveling outside of SEC country until 2004 when I went to evo2k4. That’s when my eyes was opened to how good other regions were compared to the southeast players. We wasn’t far off from skill level, but we didn’t have the match up knowledge due to a smaller scene and not traveling to the west coast. Traveling will help those that have the drive to be the best! It won’t help someone that’s not motivated or half ass at the game. All of the og Ga heads are semi retired now. We play because we enjoy fighting games but the drive to be the best is gone.
Our state scene is mostly new school players now. Out with the old and in with the new I guess. The main problem I see with our scene in ga is we are spread out. To do this team event 2 of our best players have to travel over 2 hours to meet up with the rest of the team. East point has turned into what us old school heads had back in the day called the DOJO. We have a lot of talent in ga but we do more bickering on Srk than playing.
As I get older I want to see the younger players go further than I did in competitive tournament play. People need to seriously train for Final Round and atleast try to attend 1 other regions major. It will either boost you to advance your game or you will quit playing. I hope that everyone is training for Final Round because if you can’t protect our house how will you make a name for yourself? I want to see ga peeps upset top players at FR14. It will happen in tekken because that’s what the tekken peeps do. They smash the comp that dares to enter our house! It’s time for our capcom peeps to step up. This will be your chance to show the rest of the community that we can play and have skills.
