If you listen to the podcast he did the day after the nationals tournament, he said he wasn’t allowed to change characters. He said he wanted to pick Balrog. He didn’t like picking Rufus against Daigo because Ryu is Rufus counter, and Daigo is the best Ryu in the world.
If you actually listen to him say all that stuff he said in that interview you can hear he is kinda joking and just playing around. You can’t read something and assume you think you know what his tone is.

There are plenty of other EX3 videos on YouTube to show you that 100% Jump-in offense isn’t the only way to play the game. You would know if you actually looked, which obviously you didn’t. You would also know if you actually played the game, which obviously you don’t.
And no, I’m not claiming that those videos are the absolute highest potential of gameplay either. You ever consider the fact that they both could be highly-agressive offensively motivated just because it’s their style?
My reason for putting up those videos is to counter the #1 false argument/complaint I hear from people who actually never really played the EX series: that the game is “slow and floaty”, something that anyone who has played for more than 5 minutes could tell you.
There are plenty of ways to play EX3 much more slowly, strategically, and defensively…with all the pokes, footsies, and mindgames of “classic” SF.

Well I can understand that, but it still sounds like he just can’t take a loss. Based on his logic, since Rufus counters Dhalsim, Iyo can beat Wong.

Justin Wong whining about losing is nothing new. He whined about losing to Sanford Kelly in Marvel as well. He whined about getting embarrassed in Japan by Kuroda. so this is really no surprise at all. Whether you like or hate Justin Wong, there is no denying he’s a crybaby and a sore loser.
But then again he has a Ric Flair heel persona. Probably a really nice guy in person, but when it comes to the game he goes into prick mode.
Edit: Also, this also proves that Japan Rufus is better than American Rufus. Both Marn and Justin spam the hell out of dive kicks. It appears that in Japan they’ve gotten to the point where they DP it on reaction. I don’t think it’s even just Daigo, that’s just how they play the matchup in Japan. So that’s the only way Justin Wong was use to playing Rufus and it cost him. It doesn’t look like Japanese Rufus players even use the dive kick anymore.
