Fuck all that, applying that rule in this day and age with nearly unlimited ST footage, discussions and tutorials is just sadistic.
Who wants to reminisce about a time where sucking was all we knew how to do?
I’m all about forming friendships based on a largely mutual interest, but why even play the game on your own dollar if people get all pissy because you’re playing well, and expect you to play on the level of an ignorant chimp to not get practically jumped in a damn arcade? You might as well find a social atmosphere to form relationships that doesn’t have hilariously bad ‘rules’.
Sounds like elite scrubs…usually the kids who thought they were the shit, but squalled like a wet cat the moment you jumped in with no attack, and threw them just ONCE. ANY mind game, no matter how simple and shallow confuses them. The second round usually results in you winning with a perfect. Then they give you a “Good game” as they walk away, as if it took any effort to beat them. I LOVED playing against these guys.
Fuck  that sucks!
Sad indeed.
we used to play no throws in sf2 as well.
And no, elite scrubs arent the ones who dont like to use throws. Its scrubby newcomers that take honor and respect for granted.
Honor and respect in the fighting scene is playing your A+ game and playing to win, using the most effective way possible. Not only to get the win, but to show you’re willing to play your hardest and play to help teach them to counter certain tactics.
Not babying players by sandbagging and giving courtesy rounds.
The scene would have remained completely stagnant if that were the case.
fucking truth.
People just dealt with it back then I guess. I mean seriously…a lot of people I’m sure didn’t play SF then to BE THE BEST OF THE BEST. Just wasn’t like that. I know it wasn’t like that for me. I was just there to hit some buttons and beat a couple people here and there if I could. I’m sure there were definitely a lot of tournaments and what not…but this was back when there were so many different fighting games to play other than SF. I usually went for like some SNK game or Marvel Super Heroes or something random that I couldn’t play at the house. I rarely went to the arcades to play SF2 or Alpha 2 or anything like that since I already had them at home. There was no super elite competition at the arcades that I went to. Main reason I went was just to play the sheer selection of arcade games that had graphics that were way better than my Sega Genesis or Saturn at the house.
Unfortunately I only started getting competitive at fighting games long after the arcade boom of SF2 and never got to experience getting beat up for throwing someone.
Dogshit arcade.
yeah, thats pretty much it. Those were different times back then.
Like you said, maybe it was cause we didnt take sf as seriously as we do now.
I mean that doesnt mean that we were ultra scrubs. And about the “Good game” remark, Thats called good sportsmanship. You are the one looking like an elite douche for looking down at someone who appreciates the ass whooping enough to say good game.
Sucks.
So no one could ever choose Zangief?
