I gave up on points since I try out new characters I’m learning in ranked a lot. On lag, I know I NEVER accept a match with less than the 4 green bars for any reason. I might get noticeable lag about 1out of every 50 matches. You get matches less frequently but losses caused by lag are hard to tolerate. As far as points go I just don’t look any more after a couple drunk nights using guile, dan, and oni (don’t know how to use them), every time I get my points building up I’ll get drunk and fuck it up in a couple days for sure.
I got to C+ With Seth recently and I use played pretty standard, I went for incredibly obvious SPD resets and mashed cr.LK.
Worked for me.
Once you get B rank you start losing loads of points every time you lose a match. When I first got B rank, which is 5,000 BP, I was getting matched with people with similar points and my losses seemed to be balanced out by my wins, but lately I haven’t gotten a single person with more than 4000 BP (mostly people with 500-2000) and it seems that I lose something like 30-50 points per loss while only gaining 1-2 point per win. So basically I have to win about 25 matches for every 1 that I lose, which, even against scrubs, just doesn’t happen for me online especially after you factor in laggy matches.
I swear out of the past 150 matches I think I’ve played just 1 or 2 good (high BP) players. Oh and the other thing that drives me crazy is when I play someone who has 3000 PP / 0 BP on that particular character, because although I get a decent amount of PP for winning I still only get 1 BP for winning.
Well, it’s farily obvious Capcom can’t make good online interfaces for shit. Even if by chance you can enter a lobby (unable to join!), as Godot’s saying, you get all kind of random skill level opponents (esp true if you’re the one creating the game room) even if you have adjusted the settings. Then the latency indicator seems completely broken. You’d think full green bar would be acceptable, but a lot of the time, it’s not, and I refrain from using even simple links like clp->cmp. It doesn’t exactly help playing the character with the lowest amount of health and only unsafe specials on block. Why can’t it show ping in MS?
It is a shame because I’m on fiber optics and when I’m matched against other players that are also on fiber (mostly other people from scandinavia), it’s like playing offline.
Exactly! While in most of my matches lag isn’t that bad (I only choose green bars so that should be the case anyway), I still occasionally get reaaaaallly bad lag even though it was a green bar in the lobby. Sometimes I wonder if they are lag switching, but don’t assume that they are because I’m skeptical that anyone would benefit enough from it anyway. I really don’t know why they can’t just show ping like you said. Trying to join matches is a pain as well. Last night I got “unable to join” like 20 times in a row.
Rank is fucking God Tier.
Its instant gratification. Something you don’t get in Fighting Games.
lol.
by the way, KOF has been good but trial mode is hella hard. I’d rather be frustrated by my own execution and what the game demands, than playing online where somebody might win just from qcfx2 + mash all buttons, despite them being the obviously poorer player. If y’all haven’t checked it out yet, and you like playing as Seth, definitely get KOF. the online isn’t good though from what I’ve experienced.
the real problem with making games is that the latency report is literally different from the one you use looking for games. two bar opponents on the list of games will appear as green bars when they join your lobby unless you wait like five minutes.
if you want to step your game up at all through online you should basically just kick any yellow / red because their NAT is goofy or their upload is shitty. you can get “good” yellow games but you basically have to play with them to find out and that’s kinda…meh.
either way, online always has 4-5f of lag regardless of how godly your connection is, and it’s never 100% consistent…so, just gotta learn to accept that online is not a good place to really evaluate yourself.
double posting because i am dishearted
played zaith in ranked today, first time i’ve actually had a mirror with someone who’s actually good…
that mirror shifts from everyone shut down everything press no buttons to balls to the wall insane too much. it’s also very fast paced when it gets insane and my brain can’t keep up. so i died inside a little when i lost one of the games to a choke.
I recently started playing KOF, and the trials are hard as shit at first. I was stuck on like the 2nd or 3rd trial for some of the characters for a long time. It’s tough getting used to the different mechanics. I’ve gotten better now and the game seems less difficult, but the trials are still difficult. So far I really like Robert. He kinda reminds me of Seth with the ridiculous kick moves; he’s got a fireball, a shoryuken, a dive kick type move, and that forward LK move looks a lot like Seth’s standing LK, but it combos into basically anything. I’ve played a bit with Joe too who is pretty badass as well.
Haha I really like Seth mirror matches because of how crazy they can turn out. It’s funny that fst.HP can be punished with fst.HP on block. I mirror matched a Seth the other day a couple times; it’s funny when you see the dash SPD used against you. I just think “ah yes…now I’m getting a taste of my own medicine” I realize now how hard it is to react to that shit.
cool. yeah I’ve been running team “Psycho Soldiers”: Athena, Chin, Kensou. I haven’t been too worried about getting those trials right. Fighting game fundamentals are very much intact here. Kensou is the only one on my team I’ve done all the trials with, thus him being anchor. I’ve heard that in KOF particularly, if you play on stick, the type of gate, square or octo, makes a difference. I’ve been playing on a square, and one of my gamer friends preaches octo for KOF.
About characters similar to Seth… I’d say Vice is another cuz of her swoopy command “grab” that’s like Seth’s TE but much faster and not as much range. And Chin is a great “random” character who reminds me a bit of viper and fuerte. He has good kara attacks out of far HP and can cancel normals to stance change, to stance cancel, to jump, or even combo into another normal out of that first normal. don’t forget far HP and a few of his other normals can chain to overhead… yeah he’s got some slick moves. Plus, gladly unlike Seth, Chin is a dwarf!
I still haven’t played with that many different characters, but Vice does seem cool and I can’t figure out Chin for the life of me lol. I tried messing with him a bit, but he’s so weird. I play on a square gate, but I think I can rotate it and make it an octagonal gate though I don’t see why that would be an advantage.
Message to everyone in this thread: either get a better internet connection or quit being a scrub.
