We can do some theory training because I don’t think he’s really willing to come cause he’s so lazy haha. What kind of play style is his Akuma? Does he have a decent vortex going on or is he playing closer to how a Ryu should?

His vortex is alright but he kinda plays more like Ryu should but loves to spam air fireballs though, which if I can I punish on ultra or do ex srk.

I’m still sick as hell and barely did any playing today x__x. Just went home and lied down.

The Air blog pretty much covers any and more advice I would give. If you’re playing footsies just watch out for c.HK and st.HK. Don’t get too happy throwing out c.MK or he might counter sweep then you’ll have to guess those ambiguous crossups. Akuma’s whole game is knocking you down the putting you in the vortex, his sweep is one of the simplest tools to achieve this.

A lot of the times it’s just better to walk forward/walk back and block. If he spams air FB try to dash under and punish. Also, seriously sometimes it’s just a good idea to mash EX shoryu because it ruins momentum and Akuma has no life.

I’d help you practice but my safejump timing is off and I drop basic links. Take my advice with a grain of salt since I haven’t played Super since the month it came out, and I never practice SF4 -__-. I played a bit with Richard Nguyen though, who is one of the best Akumas in SoCal. Air’s a top Ryu player also, so read that shit like the scripture.

Thanks for the advice, you’re right as well. I always get fucking punished when I use c.mk, I was watching daigo’s clips against akuma and he does the same thing, he keeps pressure with his fireballs and just waits for akuma to make a mistake and punish’s him hard since he has the life advantage.

I actually do want to see the game and will try it out. I just am coughing a lot and know as far as being a vector for disease I’m in the optimum state to infect the frick out of other people and can’t provide gas masks for everyone D: I’d be happy to play with 1 or 2 people for a short period of time though my stamina is Phoenix status at the moment, I’ve been needing to sleep a lot and just pretty terrible in general.

On the side note, for VF5 does anyone know what a defensive move is? Its like a part of the last 3 command moves for many characters if not all and my copy didn’t come with a instruction booklet. Also I could use a link for Pai Chan combos, I can’t seem to find much on her.

IIRC defensive move is just a random sidestep. There should be decent Pai combos in the training modes somewhere, she’s alot of fun and very beginner friendly!

Just tap up or down for a defensive move, it’s just a sidestep.

Couldn’t find anything online, but it’s not too hard to find simple combos, pretty much all combos are juggles. I’m going through her command training and I found a great combo opportunity for her. You can do downforward punch punch forward punch and there’s a launch starting from a low. Then you just want to find the best follow-up.

Anyways, I wanted to share with you guys that I made my own neti pot thing. HA. I poked a hole in the top of a water bottle filled it with water/salt/baking soda for that saline concoction and jetted that up into my sinus. Pretty legit. HA. AND GHETTO.

Well, I am about to finishing modding this other person’s stick. If you guys are willing I can mod sticks and maybe have some proceeds go to the dojo.

Not that I know of, there’s just command training, free training, and command time attack.

How’s MK9 for everyone. I cant get it myself no moniez D:… Someone teach me how to Mortal Kombat (well since ive only played 2 and DA, but i wasnt really good at it)

My mom still trying to get contact about our place idea with the hotel (Hotel Nikko SF) she works at, but the boss never seems to be there… since she works nightshift(well morning shift on weekends, but the boss isnt there on weekends). Of course renting out a place in a hotel, we’d have to pay a fee, dunno how much, but if the hotel’s getting money, of course they’d probably say yes.

I kinda just figured how to use the game’s juggle system on my own, strangely enough.

That said, there’s probably fancy guard cancel combos that I’m not doing; I should look into it (but I still don’t have a stick; Arlo, how is the Qanba coming along?).

That said, Mortal Kombot 9 juggle system seems like an easy-mode version of Virtua Fighter’s, strangely enough; here are my in-depth thoughts:

Okay, finally started sitting down and actually playing the game [it’s called “training mode”, which I’m pretty sure most people have disregarded in order to play the game’s bloated content].

Don’t have all the shit at this point, but I’m actually pretty bored and will likely not use fatalities or costumes or whatever in semi-serious play; fuck it.

I picked up Stryker for now given that glorified police brutality is awesome.

Essentially, I worked on some combos, which can be found here:

Combos: I got a gun and I’m not afraid to use it

(in particular, doing a launcher into flashlight xray was really strange and I’m not sure what governs why I’m able to do it: I suspect it has something to do with the height at which the character is launched… easiest way to describe it is that it’s a little like doing Ryu’s Shoryu FADC into Ultra from Super Street Fighter 4)

One of the initial barriers to execution for me was the strangeness of the execution system (oh, also, I’m playing on pad): in this game, apparently, you have to input the pre-packaged combos as fast as possible…

When paired together with the specific timing you need on juggles, it makes for a somewhat strange experience that takes getting used to.

On top of that, cancelling normals into special attacks is even more strange: I’m used to doing it at the speed at which I would cancel, say, Dudley’s standing Roundhouse into Ex machinegun blow, but MK’s normal cancelling feels pretty different in that I seem to have to enter the button for the special move right after the normal that I intend to cancel: the delay I’m used to isn’t there anymore.

That said, after a while, I manage to sort of get how juggling works; I can’t quite explain it, but it became intuitive at one point given that I was able to randomly toss out Stryker’s roundhouse move at the end of combos and make it connect…

If I were to describe it, it essentially feels like easy-mode Virtua Fighter (you kinda have to get a really good feel of your normals in that game in order to understand what will continue a juggle).

That being said, I need to do some more reading up on the system mechanics:

But it feels fairly straightforward going by my experience at Gamestop during the scrub gauntlet.

Though, I am more interested in how OTGs work in this game: I can OTG with Stryker’s baton move, but I’m not exactly sure when the opportunity to do this will come up and whether or not I can actually do anything afterwards (other than the downward strike you get from using the meter-burning ex version of the move… for a whopping extra 2% damage! :sarcasm: ).

ALSO, with regards to Stryker’s game plan, I really seem to only have 2 tools that can overhead an opponent who is down-backing (er, I mean down blocking): back X, triangle (which I can seem to only follow up with 1 move at this point if I’m not in the corner; I do uppercut since I assume that it’s good damage) and jump punch (which is hard to land on a crouching opponent because of the awkward timing)…

I’m pretty sure jump punch isn’t very viable because good players will actually stand up and block it.

ANYWAY, here’s hoping that enough people play the game this weekend.

That said, I scored a copy of Portal 2 for cheap; I hung around in Gamestop long enough to cut a deal with a guy who wanted cash in exchange for his store credit (Gamestop gives you significantly less value for your used items whenever you get cash in exchange).

He has like $300 more, so this is cool because I can get discounted crap from him for the next few months.

I would like to get in some MK9 training mode at some point. I’ve always liked the style of the mk games and it seems like a lot of people are getting into it so it would be nice to learn and at least see if it’s any fun. Besides it’s got kung lao, he kills you with his hat lol

I’ll be looking into Jade and Ermac as well as my old MK3 main Sindel maybe Smoke but I always liked the robot version of him better so I might just pass on him. Kung Lao’s hat flying toward the screen when it is blocked is a nice touch. Does anyone else think Reptile looks kinda strange? =/. I kinda wish Street Fighter and Marvel had the King of the Hill mode and the Test Your Luck mode looks really fun.
Watching MK9 on the streams on jtv makes me wanna play it more D=
