Freedemonia in East bay!

This is pretty much how sentinel is now after the patch

I just played with Sentinel. His HP only seems to be the problem. It’s Laughlibly stupid. He maintains everything else though. So anyone who uses him, if they want, stick with him, unless you only use him for Assists, then throw him out.
And Akuma Infinite seems to be gone.

Now to play Dissidia 012: Duodecim
or Pokemon ._.

I’m hoping to play some Pokemanz in a few hours as well…

I’m just deciding whether or not to do MGS2 all night.

Edit: wow, I need a new meatshield.

^^ Thor says hi

Sergio, lend me your copy of P4!

Remind me to bring Resonance of Fate this Saturday!

ALSO, why am I playing Pokemanz right now?

I think it’s because I got bored of stripping girls down in Ar Tonelico; lawlz.

OTL

EDIT:

No wait, fuck, I remember that you had it for the PSP; never mind.

In any event, remind me to bring Resonance of Fate.

EDIT EDIT:

Shit, my name barely fits in the name entry; they need to allow you more space in these things.

Out of curiosity would anyone be interested in playing Unreal Tournament III just cause its 4 player or Resident Evil 5 I want a new high score in Mercenaries since we did have that tank battles corner last time:rofl:

@DKL Boo don’t play MGS2 Play MGS3 instead :tup:

On the side note: Street Fighter Alpha 2 on Sale $2.99 on PSN

@VII Iwould, but i dont got either games:/ and i havent touched shooter games in a while, so ill be rusty when playing those

@DKL OMG RESONANCE OF FATE, i should keep playing it but why havent i touched it since ch2 or 3 was beat D:, That game is fun but I seem to have a problem with not finishing up my RPGs :|, like seriously, i only beat 1/3rd of Tales of Vesperia then for some reason i stopped.

AHH i have to get to playing my jRPGs, so much dusty games on my shelf ._.

I’m playing through all the games right now… not a big fan of the actual gameplay (don’t like the controls, don’t like the cover system, don’t like the speed of the game, etc.), but the story is really entertaining: summer Hollywood blockbusters should be more like this.

(honestly, MGS1 looks like complete ass; I kinda wish that I had a copy of Twin Snakes instead, but Gamestop didn’t have it at the time… the grey fox sequence is completely better on the Gamecube version of the game)

That said, I might actually wait on Snake Eater for the 3DS.

Honestly, 90% of JRPGS are too long.

The last thing I finished was…

Rune Factory 3.

Lawlz.

P4 isn’t on the PSP. :U

@DKL last thing i finished was FFXIII, for jRPGS… all the way back in last Feb Haha, but yeah jRPGs are way too long. But the Story and gameplay are amazing. .. Well most. Fable for English RPGs cause it only takes 4 hours to complete hahaha. About to finish pokemon black… Once i go through Victory Road, Beat the E4, the then Champion then the Shenanigans after that ..
And yeah, only Persona and P3P are on the Psp. Dunno about P2.

Well, he had something on the PSP and I can’t remember what it was…

Either way, I was 2 days too late to pick up P4 at my local gamestop.

It saddened me.

I actually don’t even like the stories (Ar Tonelico is pretty ass)…

I just play them because they fulfill my need to play animu games.

Also, FF XIII was the longest fucking thing ever: I didn’t even bother to finish it and traded it in towards Halo Reach, which I’m fairly certain I had more fun with for the duration of my owning that game.

I have persona 3 portable for psp. It’s P3 with P4 gameplay.

Samuel over at gamestop (who likely knows Jorge and Efren) talked about selling me the game for $50 and then I’m all: NO MUST RESIST…

It’ll pop up again sooner or later.

Talking about that, Efren is trying to setup a tournament for Contra Costa College; he’ll keep us updated on that.

EDIT:

Wow, Crysis 2 seems to look pretty nice.

In story, I believe MGS3 was the best one in the series even moreso then MGS4 plus MGS1 was good for its time and when you play MGS4 there’s a lot of nostalgia value not as much as MGS3 cameo in MGS4 but overall still good. MGS2 was just complete garbage, the lowest point in Kojima’s Story telling series (you’ll understand once you get halfway through or beat it). I can understand why you would wanna play the Twin Snakes gamecube version instead of MGS1 ps but that game had too many slow mo matrix scenes made it seem like Snake was Neo. Yes Yes the gameplay and cover system are a little on the slow side too slow for most people but hey who plays MGS for the gameplay (other then challenge extremists like myself, DAM You European Extreme Mode!) XD

edit: MGS1 set the stage for Big Boss as a great leader almost messiah-like person, in MGS3 you find out the whys and hows, and it really puts things in perspective

Sorry for the big post on Metal Gear, very long-time fan of the series

Also for long ass JRPGS, the longest one I’ve played probably had to be Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne everything else seemed like cake compared to that game.

Honestly, MGS2 has a lot of slow-mo stuff too, so I don’t think I would be jarred by going through Twin Snakes cutscenes (one of which I just watched, and it was awesome)…

If anything, the complete lack of expression in the characters in MGS 1 for the PS was even more jarring: it was like watching two polygons trying to conversate with each other (not that 4 had terribly convincing facial animation: they could barely make it seem like Otacon was crying and had to rely on the voice acting to carry out the scenes): they might as well have done all the cutscenes in MGS1 using the Codec animations, which were far more effective.

But, yes, the story is heavy-handed as fuck (you could not beat the anti-war message into me any harder than how Kojima did it), but it’s awesomely convoluted (so Liquid is in Ocelot now via his arm?) and has style…

Kinda like one of the characters in Red Cliff carrying around a baby while fighting off droves of people… it should be cheesy with its pretty overt message, but it’s epic.

Also, I don’t know if Kojima does the action choreography himself (likely not, as this is usually the case), but the action sequences in his games after 1 have this eerie Michael Mann polish in terms of the staging and how people move around (they clearly look like professionals)… Kojima makes good use of the military advisers he has on staff.

That said, people having entire Codec conversation’s in-between action doesn’t make any sense, but the game does a pretty good job of selling it: cue dramatic music when Jack and Rose talk about their first date.

(also, with regards to the pacing of scenes, Metal Gear Solid 4 had some of the longest fucking deaths ever: it was like some Shakespeare shit or something, where everyone has to make this long speech before finally dying)

As for gameplay, yeah, I don’t really like it all that much… I need a cover system that works and shooting that feels responsive: a lot of the game is obscured because of the use of pre-selected angles in various areas and I find myself looking at the radar most of the time, sort of trying to gauge whether the enemy will actually see me or not.

The polish is pleasing, but I need the main game to be functional enough for me to play.

I think 4 tried to copy Gears of War or something, but it had nothing on stuff like Vanquish or Uncharted 2.

EDIT:

Also, I really like this song by Susumu Hirasawa for the Berserk OST:

PROFOUND RANDOMNESS.

Well when i said it was good for its time I meant being of the first games on the ps to feature something different rather the regular run and gun plus one of the first games to actually have voice acting. The best comparison can be made when MSX and MSX2 came out since those games never came to the US or they were negated entirely because they were on an obscure system. I mean compared to other games in terms of graphics that came out near the same time. I mean you couldn’t tell that cloud was crying during the Aeris scene he was just shaking his head furiously like Otacon during Wolf’s death scene. Yet both scenes you could detect the sadness that was following it all. Of course the graphic representation wasn’t that great but remember it was PS1.

As for Liquid being in Ocelot’s arm again that was MGS2’s fault and slow mos in MGS2 was probably one of the many reasons I didn’t like that game and then seeing the stuff in the remake of the MGS1 game I think just made me mad. Graphically that game did look like a nice remake though.

Ah Good Red Cliff Reference

For MGS4, it was suppose to be themed with Snake’s End so it is understandable why they would go with such long deaths guess they went a little overboard. That is probably one of 4-5 reasons it wasn’t as good as MGS3. However the redeeming quality about it is that it tailors to every game in the series and puts soo much nostalgia into the game itself. Every scene is like “hey I remember this or o shit this is from (insert MGS game here)”

If you play any of the games as a standalone this includes MSX, MSX2, MGS Portable Ops, Metal Gear Acid 1, Metal Gear Acid 2, Metal Gear PeaceWalker, MGS1, MGS2, MGS3, and MGS4. MGS3 is the only one people will understand right away and in a sense made the story more realistic with the exception of “The Fury, and The Pain”

Last note: MGS1 Psycho Mantis Reading your memory card and “using telekinesis” on your controller when ps1 first came out had to be one of the freakiest things ever.

Edit: Last Last Note: Rose felt too much like a forced character like last minute type of thing. She didn’t play a role in anything at all and had zero personality except for being the nagging girlfriend in the background. Her role could’ve been easily taken over by the “colonel” minus the nagginess. Raiden was parodied a number times i.e. Raiden being peed on also the scene where you are a sniper protecting otacon’s sister and have the option of calling Snake for Expert Sniping. Raiden felt like Konami trying to appeal to the “the younger generation” and Kojima got his little bit of revenge with those easter eggs. While I was playing the game I felt like the Konami was trying to muscle in on Kojima’s territory. Like they were changing his original image, best comparison would be an long time manga series being produced as a short anime series of 13 episodes.

I tend to be a little strict with storytelling presented in games mainly because of my vested interest in filmmaking in general: honestly, I think a lot storytelling in games are ass and it’s usually easier to sell me on something when it pokes fun at itself (MGS actually has a great sense of humor: with a serious face, Campbell tells me to look at the back of the CD case for a Codec number… of which I actually had to obtain online because I don’t have a physical copy of the game as I bought the thing off of PSN).

Kojima’s presentation of stuff in 4 and 2 are nice since there’s a sense of grandeur that even most live-action filmmakers don’t capture (the only thing you see in a Michael Bay movie is him swinging his wallet around… you might as well give the camera to a monkey): the story is crazy (Vamp was impaled by a crucifix as a child and had to feed on the blood of his parents in order to survive?), but a lot of fun.

Also, with regards to 1, I was entertained by the story there because the whole thing boiled down to a sibling rivalry over who the father’s favorite was (THOSE RECESSIVE GENES); it was great (and in the fashion of many a cliche action movie: the dominant villain doesn’t know how to die).

That being said, I’ve not actually played the old games as my recent flurry of gaming is a new thing: I’m playing games from all over the place.

EDIT:

Which reminds me, I need to get The Last Window soon… Hotel Dusk was great.

Ah yeah Kojima and his craziness. I remember switching the controller to port 2 so psycho mantis couldn’t tell what I was doing and the colonel telling me to look on the back of my CD Case. Good Times Good Times.

As for the sibiling rivalry, I feel like it was just Liquid who was gunning for that chair next to dad. Snake was just there to stop Metal Gear and the prevent a world war for the millionth time.

I can’t make anymore comparisons and references to MGS3 without giving away the story.

I’m done for now but ITS NOT OVER YET SNAKE! Cue Cinematic Evil Laugh

Campbell’s epiphany about the controller ports was amazing: how could the voice actor deliver those lines with such conviction? (much less a straight face?)

EDIT: Also, importing Last Window from Europe via Play-Asia as we speak…

This needs to stop…
