Anybody find any stores selling either version early?
If you wanted to play that bad there’s 3-4 of us that have it and have been playing it.
Honestly I wouldn’t worry about getting it early. It’s fun but not worth trekking city wide for it.
Sentinel and Magic Johnson are the dream team.
All I have to say about Marvel 3 right now is…
PIPE
(for those of you that have not seen mike haggar in action, this is not a drug/smoking reference)
This man has it right :woot:
I just got done playing a 24 hour set of marvel vs capcom 3… That’s right, 24 hours, as in we started at 6pm yesterday and stopped at 6pm today. No sleep. No breaks. Just pure unadulterated play.
Here are some pearls of wisdom (feel free to gloss over since I’m barely coherent right now):
Bottom tier predictions: V. Joe, Thor, those without instant air dashes or double jumps, and Haggar (with pipe and all).
Top tier predictions (oddly enough the same characters that I play): Dante (sweet monkey jesus is he great), Chun Li (lightning legs hit in all directions, not just as an assist. X factor is way too quick and she one hit kills everyone while in it), Zero, Trish (ridiculous runaway) and last but not least… MOTHER FUCKING SENT! (I was wrong, though he doesn’t have super armor, his damage output is insane. He has a fucking command grab for christ sakes, his assist is arguably one of the best in the games and when he goes into x factor, you opponent loses a character. It is like a prerequisite for him or something. And his bread and butter combo does 70-80 percent).
Dante with sent is way too hard to block. He can cross you up 2-3 times while you attempt to block the drones. Chun’s assist is stupid and nearly unbeatable by all things but projectiles. I need to play this game again and soon. Trish’s runaway trumps a lot of characters. Wavedashing can now be done by everyone. Mt. Dew make me stay awake for long periods of time. Sent’s fly mode combos are cool and not that hard to do. Pheonix likes to eat chips, tons of them. Assist characters die insanely fast to projectile supers. Beam supers are the shit.
Jake… Go to sleep!
Chimichangas!
Not sure about that Gamestop but the one by my house got in their copies of Marvel this past Friday. My friend who works there showed me. We tried sweet talking the manager into letting us get our copies early but no luck.
Its too large of a fine if they ring one out before midnight. The only thing that they they use to do for us was that we had to bring it back for them to scan then pay for it. It helps when you’re dating someone there and friends with the manager/assistant manager
I agree with most of what you said Jake but I don’t think anyone but Sentinel is a guaranteed win/kill. There’s 2 situations where he isn’t: the skill mismatch between players is so great that your point character doesn’t die and its a rush down character or its sentinel vs sentinel.
You can rush down all day with Dante but since he is coming in, there’s characters that might be able to push him out or rush him down too. Im thinkin X23 and Zero (hes just as annoying as in TvC maybe more so) could fuck around with him especially since X can most likely hop all the way around the assist and dante if her hop is like Wolverine’s projectile invicible shit (depending on button press, distance you travel) and if I remember right her normals cover a good distance.
In terms of teams I think Trish and Chun would be the biggest pain in the ass to fight against which is probably why Wong uses them in his main 3. That’s not even landing hits, that’s landing blocked specials, supers, and assists. I watched odell use chun and played a bit with her myself and she seems really good. 3s chun looks tame compared to this. jump cancellable shit, lightning legs is really good, full combos with 2 meters (I think), and huge ass ball super on top of her combos.
I might just go bandwagon and pick only good characters in this game. I don’t have to sit in training mode and try to do stuff that requires any kind of execution, just do the 3 letter alphabet of fighting games.
What are the options for tonight?
I remember Aaron saying that he wanted to pick up his copy from the gamestop in East Liberty. And Gary wanted to throw a get together at his place near downtown.
Jamal, what are you up to once you get the game? And what does the midnight release party have in store for us. I read that the stores are opening at 10 and not selling the game until 12:01, so what is going on for those 2 hours of slow line building action.
I say we all meet up at one store and play monopoly or something. Who is down? I’d also accept mario kart for the ds.
As for an after event, I’m thinking sleep? I do have to wake up at 7 tomorrow, so I’m not decided as to what I’m going to do just yet.
Trey, I have a friend who knows some people in Philly. They are going to ask around and see if we can get a place to crash. Anyone here going there? Butters, do you have plans on attending? As for marvel, we’ll get in the lab and gets things cracking soon enough.
Jake-I’m planning on going over to the East Liberty Gamestop shortly before midnight. Let me know if you want me to pick you up before hand. My plan for an after event is a short amount of training mode then sleep. Haha.
Apparently Zero can call an assist and then teleport through you for a mix up. This seems like something I should have been doing. Also apparently Haggar’s lariat is cancelable into either super. I wonder if it might be possible to use the lariat to get through Trish’s traps. Hmmmm. It might also be possible for me to pick Sentinel instead. hahaha
I’ma be at the Oakland / Pitt Campus Gamestop for midnight release. I dunno what time I’ll show up. I don’t see why people should show up and 10pm and stand around for 2 hours(?). Gamespot said they will charge transactions during that 2hrs period and start handing out the game at 12am. I’m guessing that they might setup a MvC3 demo for the waiting people to play. I honestly planned on showing up around 11pm or so, getting my transaction charge and then going to McDonalds, The O, or some shit until 12.
I ended up having plans for tomorrow so no 24hr session for me tonight. Sounds like I’ll need a good amount of training/playtime to catch up with you guys. I should be free for the rest of the week though.
If no one else has shit going on, I suggest my place at like ten and the eb on top of murray can be used to buy shit at twelve. I don’t know if they are releasing like that or not though. Bottom line: I want to play tonight, someone make this happen for me.

Or maybe that had to do with his experience with the cast being so short, and wanting to win a tournament based only on a few hours of experiences.
Execution isn’t the only reason you go into practice, and not doing some testing will likely leave you at a disadvantage. You won’t find any option selects, you won’t find any of the many crazy things sure to slip by the developers in a game with as many options as this.
There are also a number of tricky combos that you would want to learn that you would need to go into training mode for. Sure, you could get the same damage amount by burning a meter or two and/or x-factor, but getting the big damage without that meter or x-factor in a game where you get meter off of nothing but hits is incredibly important. The stuff buktooth does with Doom will require training mode practice and is moderetly difficult.
Have you played the game? Yeah you can set these teams up and try this and that, but theres no need to. Option selects? Wtf is this SF4? No. There’s just damage and crossovers and lots of it. Just learn to block dante or chun cross ups and push block everything that chips but multi-hit specials since chip damage is a bitch in this and hope you get an attack out to do your long damaging combo.
Its a fun game but not that much thought or execution has to go into it to be successful at “high level.” Buktooth can do whatever he wants with Doom, it won’t make much of a difference to be successful when you can do the same thing with a good assist and a point that doesn’t let you breathe or does half the work with the same effect.
Yeah, execution and option selects don’t seem to be needed in this game.
Anywhozle, my new job has terrible hours. 11-8 therefore, I won’t be able to host on fridays anymore unless it is a special occasion as I get to leave early twice a month…which is weird… despite that, I will still have my stick with me on fridays so I can head to wherever everyone is playing as long as someone hits me up. As for tonight I’ll be picking up my copy but probably just be sleeping since i’m pretty worn out.
Hopefully I’ll get to play some SSFIV and Marvel this weekend. I dunno if I’m going to take marvel all that serious or not…I’m still going to learn the ins and outs but I dunno if I really want to play it in a tourney setting…the game is fun…but something about it just feels off to me, so I’ll be focusing mainly on SSFIV still.
So your saying people go into training mode to practice things? GTFO!
onto important things. I’ll host at my place until RJ gets better hours, or Rj can give us a key to his place. How’s CMU going for hosting? or maybe a Duquesne revival?
