Free Comic Book Day 5/3/08

What are supplies usually like? If you get there later in the day, do they ever run out of stuff?

Yes sometimes they do run out of comics. Marvel and DC books are the first to go naturally. A few stores last year ran out of the FCBD Swing Shift Spider-Man comic and I had to visit a few shops to pick it up. So yeah, show up early. Since last year Spider-Man 3 came out on the same weekend that FCBD started, similarily I imagine that the Marvel Adventures book that has Iron Man in it will be the first to go. Maybe, who knows…

Well this is how it works…atleast at one location I go to
they give you about 3 comics by default, then you pick about 4 more
I think they do that to keep from running out of certain stuff
where I go there are usually alot in stock, but all the places don’t do that.
…go for hole in the walls lol, they usually be packed with comics cuz no one knows where they are…and if anyone live in NYC be sure to go to Virgin Megastore (I dun know where there other locations are but if u have one just go), ur likely to get goodies there cuz no one really knows it’s Free Comic Book Day

I am going to be momentarily inconsolable if I don’t come home with at least three free copies of ASS #1.

Incidentally, I am now the proud owner of the limited edition ASS#1 with the cover by Neal Adams.

My comic shop only let you have 3 freebies per costumer. Lame! I got these:

Marvel Adventures Iron Man & Hulk & Spider-Man, Disney’s Gyro Gearloose, and Amelia Rules.

our shop here in austin has a limit of ten! picked up superman, the irom man/hulk, batman, 52 week 1, amazing spiderman and the Wife picked up BSG and tiny titans.

Gonna have to see the Iron Man movie tomorrow because I’m waiting for some friends to come through. Anyway I visited 2 comic book shops and I got -

Marvel Adventures Iron Man & Hulk & Spider-Man - Loved the artwork by Alvin Lee and also the cover by David Nakayama! Hulk was pretty funny in the comic, it was like classic Defenders Hulk who was big on comedy! Some funny moments with Spider-Man and Iron Man too! They did a little too much whining about Mandarin being able to teleport for my tastes but it was lots of fun!

X-Men - Written by Carey! Pixie spotlight! Some of my favorite X-Men show up towards the end! Also some new information with regards to the X-Men after Messiah Complex is offered! And the story involved DEATH and there was BLOOD! Well, the blood was colored black and all and I always prefer my blood to be the DC variant bright colored read shown a lot in 52 but hey since I didn’t pay money for the book, THAT WAS AWESOME!

Gyro Gearloose - A Don Rosa story and a classic Carl Barks story, for free! Whoa man doesn’t get much better than that! Some interesting tidbits here. Don Rosa is not allowed to use Ludwig Von Drake in any shape / size / form in Disney comics because Disney USA and even Carl Barks himself told him that he does not exist in Disney comic book continuity, despite Carl Barks having done a story with Ludwig before and Huey, Dewey and Louie’s creator Al Taliefero used Ludwig a lot in the strip. But oh snap, Don Rosa in the Gearloose story snuck Ludwig in as a cameo. Duck Tales original character, Launchpad Mcquack continues to be used by William Van Horn in two more stories where he pairs him off with Gyro, this is the third Launchpad / Gyro story I’ve read so far since he likes the character. So in Disney comics, Von Drake has been snuck back in, and Launchpad is in but so far he just hangs out with Gyro, hooray! But yeah, nothing on Bubba, Gizmoduck and Darkwing Duck in the Disney comic book world just yet. FUN!

Tiny Titans - Awww, this was sooooo cute! But why are there two Wonder Girls? Ah, in the last issue of ‘Teen Titans Go!’ based on the TT Animated series they also had the two Wonder Girls, hmmmm. Cassie’s popularity DEFIES ALL LOGIC! :lovin:

Jughead - It was funny when they claimed the mystery in the comic a “Weird Mystery” since I actually did watch that Archie’s Weird Mysteries cartoon before. This book needed Reggie though, and not ReggieHadoken. Hmmm come to think of it, ReggieHadoken could of worked too… :looney:

Hellboy - That was a NASTY mole Hellboy had there oooh… :wasted:

Sonic - Ah just for the hell of it. A reprint of his first issue. LOL at some of the character designs, DAMN. Ah well it was quite a few years ago. They redesigned the original cover with a more updated look though.

Avengers Invaders Sketch book - Awesome sketches, I’m HYPE! The book starts Wednesday!

I already had All Star Superman 1 so I didn’t want to deny a new reader from grabbing one. I did urge my best friend who I was hanging with to pick one up because it really is the best comic on the racks right now. Hopefully he’ll get hooked on ASS.

I got all of the above, FOR FREE! Like Happosai of Ranma 1/2 fame likes to say, “WHAT A HAUL! WHAT A HAUL” :woot:

I made an appearance in Jughead?

I looked through Tiny Titans. Really cute, funny stuff. If it becomes a regular series, I’ll pick it up.

I also picked these up:

Spider-Girl #7 (vol. 1)
Spider-Girl #62
Double-Shot #3/4 (Fantastic Four)

All of those were twenty five cents.

The store I went to was out of X-Men, so I have to check out the other LCS tomorrow.

i got the xmen issue. story was extremely good. art was land. so you know what that means. retraccing of other pictures.

Emma on the cover to the FCBD X-Men comic made me want to do things to myself.

My local shop only allows 1 FCBD comic per customer, as well as 2 onld comics they can’t get rid of. So I ended up picking up ASS. Now I’m gonna have to get that TRADE, BABY.

Amelia Rules is one of my favorite series. It’s got some great wit. Time to look for the TRADES, BABY. Also, Tiny Titans is an ongoing series. I think two or three issues have already been published.

I, sadly, did not have a chance to go to my store yesterday. Actually, I guess I did have a chance to go early in the afternoon, but I put it off because I thought I could go around 4 or 5. But by that time, a couple of my buddies (who aren’t comic book addicts) called me up and we ended up going to dinner and then watched Iron Man.

But today, I went to Sunnyvale to hang out with one of my old college buddies. We went to a store over there, and they had some leftovers. All I got was Hellboy and ASS. They still had a good stock of all of the other FCBD comics but the store owner said one per person. (My buddy doesn’t like to read so he gave me his Hellboy comic.) But the owner did give me like 30 copies of the Gumby issue… So I thought it would have been hella greedy of me to ask if I could have any of the other issues. (We had a brief conversation and I mentioned that some of the kids at my elementary school loved last year’s FCBD Gumby issue, so he just gave me a fat stack of the new one.)

Oh man. I pulled so much ASS this weekend. Mission fucking accomplished.

Damn…I forgot about FCBD.
Shame on me…

Only picked up 2 comics.

X-men. I’m a fan of Greg Land’s stuff… even if the poses are copied.

Broken Trinity Prelude - This Stjepan Sejic guy is awesome. Very CGish. I’d really like to see him do non-top cow stuff, but I think he signed an exclusive till 2010.

Pics of the ASS I pulled on Saturday.

Notes…

No, the limited edition ASS was not free. Very not free.

And not pictured: girlfriend.

Ditto. Godammit! :bluu:

I got a whole bunch of shit, including Wolverine Origins:rock::rock: and all the important ones

even though I hate Superman I nabbed that comic anyways
I gave most of the comics to my niece, nephew and my lil sister though and kept the rest for myself.

They still had some more comics when I went in today. I went to pick up Spider-Girl #17 (vol. 1) in the dollar bin and I was given the Shonen Jump Sampler, Death-Defying Devil, and Ignatz.
