Hmmm… I dunno. 2 maybe in each game during the tournament? I’m being pretty generous…don’t let me down.

In other news I went ahead and reserved a room for Evo. I can always cancel if I don’t decide to go, but now I have one so it’s like a one foot in kinda mentality. I’m telling yall…you should go to Evo. I know my thoughts will fall on deaf ears though…oh well…I’ll still try to convince yall.

Edit: Also, while I’m thinking about it. What do you guys think of the new Ultras? Favorites, ones that suck, stuff like that. Lets have a discussion on the forum. I’ll start.

Best New Ultra (Aesthetically) - Bison (It looks almost too violent for SF lol)
Best New Ultra (Practicality) - Zangief (That’s about to be some bullshit I can see it now)
Worst New Ultra (Aesthetically) - Rufus (That shit just looks weird)
Worst New Ultra (Practicality) - tie - Cammy and Fei Long (Counter…Ultra? The only way I can see this possibly working is if their ultra meter charges more rapidly to allow more than one chance a round…I mean like it needs to be accessed 3 times a round or something. Actually never mind…it’s just dumb period.)

Dave - best new ultra aesthetically is either both Guy ultras or Dhalsim and for practicality I will agree with Zangief. Worst ultra aesthetically is Balrog and for practicality is Gouken (at least until they show what it does on successful hit).

One custom combo is one too many. Even though I like the idea of a custom combo, I have a feeling that it will turn out to be either overpowered or useless. Or perhaps it will put a little excitement into the game, which this game is in desperate need of.

Brent - Lol well Balrog is a dirty man after all. Dirty bull looks ok although I think it’s silly that they gave him a grab in the first place. How the fuck do you even grab with boxing gloves on anyway? Guy and Cody definitely got good looking ultras though…and they all seem useful…all 4 of them. We’ll see though.

Gary - Always looking for what will win a match eh. I agree with most of that list though, although I think Viper’s might be really good if you can tiger knee cancel it like her first super. Blanka’s might be good, but I definitely wish it were a little faster to hit I think. But the ground version hits full screen so maybe that might make it overpowered?

Clem - Yeah I’m with you. Custom combos always scare me. The only game where they were kept in check is a game that no one played (no love for Capcom Fighting Jam). If there’s invincibility at startup, and I assume, a retarded move that she can spam over and over again and combo (especially if she can link a move after her specials or something) she might be everyones new favorite character.

Also I’m calling it now…I don’t know why I feel this way, but Rose’s new ultra is going to end up broken…can’t say I have a good reason why, but…man I dunno I can just feel it.

I’m gonna say Cammy’s = 2, it just seems way to easy with all the poking people do. Fuck, you know the gouken counters? well i think it’ll be just like those except it’ll hurt a hell of alot more. I think you guys are underestimating it. also, is fei-longs a counter? never heard that.
- but if she can actually fully combo into her normal (1) ultra, that might be a diff story…
Gouken is def. 1 his denjin hadoken isn’t even unblockable!
You forgot Sakura, which I would say 2 becuase it can be an AA hadoken or reg (depending on the input)
I’m feeling 2 for ken, but than again I have no idea.
Juri’s is gonna be 1 imo, it’s a custom combo meter.
I don’t really think people jump much when it’s a geif game, so idk how effective his ultra 2 will be. if anything that’ll ensure they stay on the ground more imo.
I wanna see how blanka’s 2nd can be used, it seems…interesting…

and Dave, ya it does seem a little…over powered… somehow… it’s like 2 get out of jail free cards that she has to do nothing to get. your oppent gets shocked when he hits them from what i saw…fuck to sleepy to spell check… or head hurts…can’t remeber.

I think vipers 1 has a lot more uses; I was under the impression that 2 only hits grounded opponents.

I think Blankas 1 is still too good to pass and it can be comboed c. mk, and jumping roadhouse. Not to mention some characters cant do anything but take the insane guard damage. Also it has the possibility of crossing up. But i would say both of blanka’s ultra is probably better than both of Ken, Cammy, and Feilong ultra’s

Cammy & Feilong it could be useful to counter long range attacks like blanka ball, ehonda headbutt, balrogs charge attacks or random ultra. BUT remember during ultra freeze it cancels your opponents button input. For example you tried to predict to counter a sweep, the game freezes now you counter nothing because the sweep did not come out due to ultra freeze now you are free. This makes it much worse than Goukens.

Andy: To play online you need Xbox gold or silver (free weekends only) and Ethernet cable and router doesnt have to be wireless. Who is your internet provider?

it’s not that simple andy. if you want to play it wireless, you’ll need a $100 (they may be cheaper now) addon for it and a wireless router. otherwise, you’ll need a really long ethernet cord.

you can FADC into Ken’s 2nd ultra as well.

what is this input cancelation during the ultra freeze bullshit? this new in ssf4? i’m pretty sure you can still do inputs when the ultra goes off and they will come out when it’s over. it’s like that for ultra-ultra at the very least.

Also, they may have changed the guard damage like they changed rufus’s ex snake strike.

Im sick of almost always fighting an uphill battle in BB. It will be nice

Ultra freeze bullshit is in regular SF4.

Andy: Oh in that case I?m not even sure if it is worth getting a router because Sprint card will probably give you bad connection.

I can’t remember ever coming across it. Although we may be talking about two different things? Also, saw Seth’s ultra, his first one is better.
I’m not sure what you’re trying to say Gary, but I’m sure it’s not what I’m trying to say, even if they are on the same lines.
Regardless, we’ll just have to wait and see how effective it really is to know for sure.

Why Counter Ultras are bad

Counter supers have almost NEVER been good in any fighting game played at a high level. Unless thrown out in response to a super telegraphed move, it is almost never guaranteed. Not to mention the risk involved already in using a counter super (ultra in this case), the screen freeze, animation and flash are a huge cue to NOT PRESS A BUTTON. Counter ultras are also delegated to only a defensive use. It would be much better off if we had something that could used creatively and not in such a restrictive, predictable manner.

Another big reason these are bad is that both characters given counter ultras already have a Dragon Punch. Why do we need a counter when we have a free "counter’ that doesn’t have a giveaway super freeze and doesn’t cost meter. From a design standpoint that makes little sense.

Counter Ultras are already in the game

Yes, that’s right. Any ultra that has invincibility is a counter ultra. Because of the screen freeze you’ll have to do it AFTER they’ve thrown a poke out. But why is this needed when we already have regular ultras with invincibility which would do the exact same thing and serve better utility for other things as well, such as combos. There is no point to these being in the game and could have been used to add better utility to characters that could have used the help.

The Solution

Simply change the startup animation slightly to be a command grab and keep the same animations otherwise. It wouldn’t take much work and would provide real utility to both characters who have counter ultras. Not to mention, command grabs can be used as “counters” in close to the same effect but also serve offensive purposes, much of what SSF4 is supposed to be more focused on.

Still think counter Ultra is good?

There are only 3 character with a Shoryuken Ryu. Ken and Akuma. I’m pretty sure I didn’t type Akuma or Ryu with letters FADC

This group is also more of a Street Fighter-based group, but that doesn’t mean we don’t play other games, it’s just that it seems SF is what gets played when we get together more often than not. You play any other fighting games?
Where do you live (city-wise)? Even though this is the Fort Wayne thread, that doesn’t mean we’re all from here. It’s really just a collective of Fort Wayne and the surrounding towns.
