i already know how to play other characters tron, i used my regular team of tekkaman blade and soki against the entire cali crew (or at least who was there) and won all my freeplay matches against u guys with them, with the exceptions of like, phampy royal flush kbeast, and i think jint. its not that i cant play regular characters, its that this ban is dumb. but whatever, i know in my region, they wont be, as a matter of fact i retract what i said before, no one should be banned, yes zero and blade are stupid, but they are beatable, thus the game is fine with absolute no bans.
i am gonna play mvc3 and i will be good at it just like this game, although i already think that game is fucking stupid already, ridiculously broken characters, zero is even more retarded than before, i mean ill play but that doesnt mean im gonna fucking like it, that game needs a serious balance check. and honestly tron, i still have no issue with you, but say what u will about the giants, u use tekkaman blade, yes i do too, but imho that takes less skill and i guess thats an insult to me and you both since we both use him, neither does zero imho. once again though, no quarrels with ya, i consider this extremely heated debate!!!
again with whoever said that to you jint, i can bring up the grappler vs everyone issue in ost fighting games as a counter argument, that shit dont look fun either, i dont see why people just dont treat giants like the grapplers of tvc, they are fought the EXACT same way.:arazz::arazz:
Yeah I mean PTX worst match ups are 50/50. Giants are boring to watch, I don’t know how a giant could ever be entertaining to watch. They are overpowered for sure and I have been nagging at Royal about this. Finally he took forth to ban them for this. Giants simply just take less skill which is why we are also getting at this ban for SoCal. Rotan picked up Ptx in a day while Royal and I have been using out characters for a long time!! Only new character for me is Tekkaman Blade I use. The point is when it comes to the skill level, it is unfair. Which is why I strongly believe in this game being a 2v2 game. No giants in Marvel 3, so Bad Fish and Yoshi should learn some TvC characters for time being. I agree with everything Royal said about mix ups and etc.
Were not trying to cheat anyone out but we want a fair clean tourney with skill level and not cheap skill level. You can love playing giants but when it comes to tourneys out here they will not be allowed. Yoshi and Bad Fish can learn alternate characters if they truly love the game.
I sort of agree, and if I had to draw a melee comparison (i know, smash, gtfo, but it’s like the same scenario here), Jigglypuff is a rape character, but takes next to no tech skill and is boring as fuck to watch. If TvC devolved into PTX dittos everytime like some melee tourney finals turn into Jiggs dittos, the scene would basically die. I don’t know if banning giants is the answer, but if not, then non giant players need to step their shit up and learn how to beat giants most of the time. This is sort of a ramble, but w/e. Banning Giants is a worthwhile experiment at the very least.
I don’t think there is one good reason to cater your rules to people who do not even play your game. Not one. It’s possible that I am assuming too much, but I doubt that there are many potentially competitive up-and-comers out there who have to face good PTXes at such a frequency that it actually turns them away from the game completely. Bending to the will of top players and the game’s community at large is one thing (and typically a good thing at that), but anybody who cites PTX as a top reason why they haven’t even played the game at all is clearly just looking for an excuse and is not going to give this game the consideration it deserves anyway. Why defer to them?
I still think the only reason you should ever ban a character is if they’re just flat out overpowered to extreme lengths, and while I still don’t think PTX meets that criteria I respect Royal’s decision because (among many other things) he waited until a PTX player proved that the character could at least win a major before laying down the law. And honestly, if by some outside chance TvC activity picks up in your scene because of it, then more power to you. Good luck. :wonder:
The thing is SixFortyfive that PTX is overpowered and takes much less skill to use than other characters. The reason is PTX just need two combos to kill off your character including Alex and Tekkaman health. That is overpowered to me while as normal characters can do the same to kill a character in two combos usually. Except in this they have the option to Mega Crash to get out or let the character die. With the giant you can’t do that to get a second chance because it is useless to mega crash against a giant. I never said PTX players have no skill but compared to regular characters it is much less skill to use PTX.
For a Giant I would say it is worthy of a ban. Too overpowered, if you played regular characters against good giants like Yoshi then you would understand how fast you die in one or two combos. It is only for SoCal so if like I went to a NorCal tourney or anywhere else I would fight a giant. Although you giant players need to understand that PTX is overpowered.
Ban Megacrash as well. If you get caught in a combo, you should just take it and not have an escape option. It will make matches more exciting because players will use their meter for more than just combo breakers.
Also, +1 for giant matches being exciting. I have a harder time dealing with Zero, Condor, TBlade, Volnutt etc. with big slow Lightan, so when I see him kick ass it puts a smile on my face.
And -1 for saying Giants take little skill. Characters who can’t double jump, can’t super jump, can’t hit over their head most of the time (Lightan), lose to keepaway for free (Lightan again), and are still prone to command throws, hit stun, special move cinematics and dizzy, take less skill to win than say Tblade or Zero? I doubt that.
Execution barrior and interest levels shouldn’t be the basis for banning characters. That’s why Sentinel isn’t banned from major MVC3 tournaments. A minor change in playstyle shouldn’t play a role either. Part of playing any fighting game is learning to adapt to everything, be it characters, subsystems, or whatever. Just because you can’t fight a giant like everyone else doesn’t mean it should have to go. You just have to respect the character’s strengths and exploit their weaknesses; stuff you do in just about any fighting game.
As someone who’s jumped ship from MVC3 for awhile to come back to TVC, this is discouraging to hear.
