It’s funny it’s not note worthy any of u guys I’m sure could do the same vs them it’s just when was the last time you were in ranked match making and got two double ps in a row vs different people. I get a kick out of watching it. If you want me to post some stuff vs high level comp let me know but I play a pretty standard gief so it won’t be anything to crazy.
Seriously though; there just need to be more videos posted so people can chime in and comment and argue or whatever. JasonC and I had a great set last week, but no vids; I will work on posting something; main thing is that seeing other Gief’s in action makes you think about ticks and setups, as well as mind games and training certain actions. Nothing wrong with that. I think quad perfect is dope, btw.

This thread is unfortunately devoid of meaningful dialogue- I’ve tried to go into detailed discussion on this thread but to no avail, so I cover my videos with my annotations instead, and I actually get useful feedback from players that way. I posted a video her vs a high level dudley and nobody posted for 6 days, and when they did it was just another video. I’m not innocent either, mostly posting links without saying much - I think I will post in the matchup thread along with thoughts and see where that goes.

If I don’t jump against Fei I think I have a fair chance of winning by outpoking. I think against top players, it is better to bait anti airs with safe jumps and punish with ultra 2 rather than use it in the guess mode I use it in here.

Thanks for posting vids. Ryan Hart plays this matchup ballsy. Seemed liked he was throwing plasma at unsafe spacing to get you to go for an exgh early regardless of the damage (and maybe become accustomed to going for it?). I like U1 in this matchup.
Re: Fei, I have very little input since I struggle hard with this matchup. Only thing I can think of is OS sweep would catch a lot of his backdashes and short jump back knees/buffer SPD can hit rekkas or if no rekkas can flirt with lp.SPD range on landing.
The only other thing I can think of is bringing a “random” element into your footsies, and I don’t mean random in a bad way, like random GH’s or anything. More that it seems like a lot of the time you are advancing you aren’t whiffing any attacks or forcing your opponent to think of anything other than your distance to them; which may make it easier for them to react when you do throw something out there significant, like a s.mp or OS c.lk/s.lp. I guess I am thinking that if you can have a slight edginess/frenetic activity/whatever you can force the opponent to use up valuable mental real estate to figure out you intentions rather than just watching for the attack to react to. Only really comes to mind watching Vangief; he is so active (in a fairly safe manner) with whiff attacks and possible SPD buffers that a bunch of players don’t seem to be able to react to the “real” attacks as readily.
Hope that long winded paragraph makes sense; take all of this with a grain of salt, because I am pretty ass at the game recently.

Fei Long’s backdash is way too fast for option select sweep. Fei’s backdash is so fast he can focus backdash a cr.lk then block the EX GH.

Oh shart, that would be scary. I don’t think that’s right though. Fei’s backdash is in the 26-27 frame range and that should get caught by the sweep. EXGH won’t work though

I know that a lot of people are saying that patience is the key in this match, but i would like to add something. Dont get anxious when Sagat is able to get out of the corner, dont try to chase him right away cause you will probably eat something unpleasant. Thats imho.
Just a few things I noticed,
PPP Lariat is not safe in this match up. I noticed a few times where you could have been ultra 1’ed after whiffing lariat. Not to mention having tiger shots thrown in at the end of the move. I wouldn’t use it unless it was part of a combo and I hit confirmed first.
Jumping hard kick has a shorter range and it gives Sagat more time to react with a Tiger uppercut.
I liked how you were short jumping over the tiger shots at mid range. I think I’m going to try that out myself
I also saw you use St.Srong only a few times. Try pimp slapping more in close.
If you’re just jumping over fireballs to gain space I would empy jump as you will recover faster.
Instead of jumping over tiger shots you should try to FWD+cr.Roundhouse every once and while. I saw you did cr.MK a few times, but I would have done that more and jumped less.
Some of those Banishing Fists worked for you (like that one you did to ultra), but I personally think they are just too risky to do unless your close enough to counter a Tiger Shot. Sagat is tricky because he extends his arms to Tiger Shot and it looks like you can catch him, but more often then not your timing is off and end up eating whatever he serves up.
Nice job though. Sagat is a really tough fight.

You need to be careful whiffing green hand, there are times where you are doing it right in his face and he has 2 bars - a better sagat is going to TU FADC ULTRA every time. also you should learn cr.lp option select EX GH against his standing hard kick.

Nice vids bro. Personally, I despise gief mirror matches so much and I’m sorry but rufus is so fucking gay. Basically, he just did cr.fierce the whole time and then of course the typical ex.messiah bullshit and won. Everyone says the matchup is in giefs favor but it’s probably closer to even if anything imo.
