I love what you guys are doing. Its not just for the fighting game community but for the gaming community as a hole. its nice to see more and more advance players play in crunch time tournament situations… looking forward to it!
Hey… why are winners not allowed to switch ultras for SSF4? This is my first time seeing that so… I find it awkward. Usually the ultras help against counter picking… so it’s just a little more fair game.
pretty standard stuff
Tourney the weekend after NEC…I’m so there.
See you in Decemberrrrr.
At what fucking tournaments?
Oh, looked at the Halo Reach 4v4 tournament rules aswell and found some chinks.
“Wired Xbox 360 controllers will be at each station, no wireless controllers allowed”
Great, thanks for supplying the standard for competitive play.
“1. Players must use wired controllers or wireless controllers WITH a play and charge kit with no battery pack attached.”
I thought wired controllers were supplied at the stations? On top of that, it doesn’t matter if there’s a battery pack in the damn controller or not, it still sends a wireless signal to the 360 if it’s a wireless controller.
“24. Players are responsible for their belongings for the duration of the event. Players should realize that many Xbox 360 controllers look the same and a distinguishing mark may be used to prove ownership.”
Now, I realize this may include headsets, bags, ect. But you specifically mention Xbox 360 controllers. I thought they were supplied?
“8. Players may not unplug anything from the Xbox 360 or TV. They may use any available USB port or bring a USB splitter to increase the number of USB ports on the 360 console.”
You might want to clarify if the players will be playing split-screen 4 to a box, 2 to a box, 1 to a box, whatever so that they actually know how many fucking USB ports are available on each Xbox in case they do decide to bring a headset.
“4. Players cannot use a headphone that requires a power outlet, but may use headphones that require USB power if there is an available USB port.”
Mind telling us how many USB ports will be available on each 360 so we can know if we even want to go?
You have a controller modding company for a sponsor, at a supposedly highly competitive and professional event. Way to promote fair play.
I mean, I don’t like shitting on people’s tournaments, but at least make your shit sound legit =/
whatever.
very mature response
Sorry for any confusion here guys. I promise we are trying our hardest to make sure all of the rules are concrete.
I really don’t want to talk about shooters on SRK, but since the questions were asked…
1) Wired controllers will be provided at each station for all shooter and sports games. Wireless controllers will not be allowed for any of the shooter or sports games at the tournament. You may also bring an Xbox 360 wired controller and use it in any event.
2) For the first few rounds in the Halo 4v4 & COD 4v4 tournaments, teams will be using split screen (2 players per TV). So, there will be 1 USB port available. Please feel free to bring a USB splitter, they are cheap.
*Shooter rules were written up by 2 current MLG judge’s. They were just updated on the site.
*We are working on getting a headset company involved such as Astro. If this happens, each station will be provided with a mix amp solving the USB issue. More info on this to come.
- The owner of BGRMods is a close friend of ours. He is greatly helping with Focus Fire on both a financial & promotional standpoint. To many people BGRMods looks to be a rapid fire only based company, however, he has many other items on the market. To name a few, the No Scope, Hub Cap, Gamer Towel & many more unique items that will be releasing in the very near future I cannot yet talk about. He is currently working on projects w/ companies such as MLG, Epic Games & Sony. If you were in DC at the most recent MLG event, he had some of these items at an MLG product booth. He will be selling many of these products at major retailers consisting of Best Buy, GameStop GameFly and many more soon. The best part, some of these products will be debuting at Focus Fire.
What?
The standard is that if the loser decides to switch characters, the winner has to stay the same character, but can switch ultras. Are you guys doing things differently? If not… the wording is confusing. That’s why I’m just trying to make sure just to be aware of what you guys are planning to do.
I just posted in the WI thread about this Chazro. Sorry I didn’t get to your concerns earlier, I was out of town until tonight!
To everybody else in this thread, here is the question that was addressed.
Can the winning player change their ultra?
We want to get some opinions on this from more people…
this is crazy…Westcoast is blowing up!
I think someone from Michigan is not coming. No matters, I dont think he would have placed in the money anyways. Cannot wait for this event. Every event has been good so far. Surprised there is a discussion of the FPS side though.
I’m pretty sure that the tournament standard is (as Chazro said) that the winner must stay the same character, but may change Ultras. The winner selects their Ultra first, so the loser gets to choose their Ultra with the knowledge of which Ultra the winner chose.
The following rule has been updated:
- Winning player MAY switch ultra (must pick ultra before loser picks their ultra)
Wow this tournament is lookin pretty sick right now! Anybody for sure goin from Illinois??
just a few questions about this event…
-
VIP passes include free food and drink. What kind of food and drink? Also, is it goin to be all day free or until it runs out? First come first eat and drink? So, if you’re consider a top player in the nation you get VIP for free then? Who’s the top players that’s going to be in the VIP?
-
after looking at the site, if i would purchase VIP and SSF4 it would come to 35 dollars for the whole event? does purchsing VIP cover for both days? because i saw you had prices that there were gona b 25 available on sat. n sun. on the days of the event.
-
can we can get a list of ppl registered? how many spots are opened/left for ssf4, t6, and so on? why is there a cap for every game? i thought you guys wanted to generate a big scene.
-
i was lookin at the schedule and idk if you guys changed it yet. but it said ssf4 is being ran on sunday only. will it be able to finish on time in one day? plus you said sunday was gona be for finals, so i thought all games were gona get played on sat.
well, just wanted to clear a few things up. interested in coming and have a few friends that are willing to come.

No worries dude, I was gonna ask at the tournament if no reply was made XD
Thanks for responding with a more define answer. I’m unsure if I can come, but I’ll let you guys know soon.
- A highly respectable catering company is sponsoring the VIP room on both days. We will be picking out the food, it will be good! They will be responsible for making sure food is readily available from 12-6 both days. Drinks will consist of water and soda, possibly energy drinks. No alcoholic beverages will be served in the VIP room due to strict restrictions at the La Crosse Center. However, alcoholic beverages can be purchased from the concessions (This is Wisconsin). Some of the top players that will be flying into the event will gain access to the VIP room. As for who, there are a few names we have on the list thus far, but we will not be handing out many. We will however be giving out around 10-20 for free to random people at the event as a “Thank you for coming to our event” type of thing. There will be some stations setup in the VIP area as well allowing gamers to practice. We are still finalizing details on the VIP room, we should have final info in 1-2 weeks.
- We are selling up to 25 VIP passes each day. So if you buy one on Sat., you will need to buy one on Sunday as well. More info here: Focus-Fire VIP We are doing this so that more people can get a chance to experience the VIP room. It can only accommodate around 100-125 people. 75-100 passes each day will be going to vendors and staff alone. You can receive a free VIP pass if you volunteer to help at the event!
- We are considering naming players who have signed up. There are still plenty of spots available for each game. Although we did not want to, we simply needed to cap each event game for many reasons. 1) The amount of equipment needed to accommodate more people is something we cannot yet offer. (We are using 48 setups alone for the shooter 4v4 tournaments, 32 for SSFIV tournaments) 2) We only have the event area for 2 days, so we do not have enough time 3) Staffing, the more people that can play in the tournament means the more people we need to staff. We have around 40 volunteers and staff members thus far but we still need more. We are counting on thousands of people to attend this event even with the caps. If every player signed up for 1 tournament, we would have over 1500 tournament players. We are hoping to get over 1,000 tournament players.
- The schedule has changed a bit. There is more of a fun SSFIV Randoms tournament on Saturday and the major Super Street Fighter IV tournament is on Sunday. Judging by our math and previous experience running events, we have enough stations to finish all events in one day. We have a lot of people that have looked into this issue thus far and we know what we need
Glad to hear you are considering attending this event… If I might ask, where abouts are you from?
@Syxx573 hahaha, how can anybody say no to that!
@Chazro We changed the rules for you and now you may not make it to the event…? What the…!! lol j/k hopefully you get away for the weekend and make it to this event. If not, you can always catch the stream.
mmm delicious dishes
I’m getting a VIP just for the delicious dishes, I want mini-tacos, totino pizza rolls, and Ice cream sandwiches… $25 worth or I’m filing a written complaint
