Need everyone’s opinion on Chun Li’s focus attack. I’ve played Chun Li since Vanilla, still struggle at around 6000 bp, up and down 2000-3000pp range on XBL. I haven’t been using focus alot until lately, mainly to escape and absorb fireballs. Here is what I understand about Chun’s focus attack, they may not be right, so if someone can give me some input, please do!
- Focus attack start up is quick, range is ok
- Recovery is long compare to Ryu (maybe the same, but from my experience, Ryu’s focus can follow with a shoryuken even when it whiffs, probably because Chun Li has long air time, so whenever i jump over a focus attacked Ryu, I always get hit before i even land, which i think it’s kinda lame
- Might work for Anti-air
- Mostly use for escape when opponent is jumping in closer and not enough startup time for cr.mp
- After focus attack hit/block, dash forward consider to have the least down time compare to other character
So when do we use it? Should Chun Li even consider using focus and why?
Focus->backdash is one of her best ways to get out of pressure. You just have to be mindful of your remaining life, and what the other guy is doing.
If hers hits, she has quite a few options actually. Super, either Ultra, bnb, or (if meterless) backdash then jump forward + j. :d:+:mk: stomps, piano legs loop, etc
Found the moveset and attributes thread. There might be more stuff here. http://shoryuken.com/f253/chun-li-moveset-attributes-175070/
