Maybe for cataclysm. I miss wotlk arena though. As another fellow 2800 player, I found Wotlk to be so much more exciting with shit getting blown the fuck up in seconds, yet at the same time there was always something you could have done to prevent it. The game was so much faster andunbalanced that it was way more fun. In cataclysm, stuff dies in seconds also, but the matchups are so bad that there is usually nothing you can do to prevent it cough smokebomb. People in that game need to realize that balance never is and never will be the issue. The game from a pvp standpoint is not meant to be balanced and in fact is strongest when it is the most “unbalanced.” In Wotlk it was balanced around every spec being unbalanced and therefore everyone had bs that allowed them to compete. Wow actually can very well be competitive, but the community is just so fucking terrible… I mean so god awfully shitty, it’s impossible for it to grow.

I think what he’s trying to say is that some simple games will take no skill to master (Tic Tac Toe), but some can take more skill than any complex fighting game (Go).

I don’t think simple=deep, but I also don’t think complex=deep (Monopoly is more complex than Chess). After all, Street Fighter IV is much more complex than Hyper Fighting due to more characters, two meters, FADC, etc., but it also takes less skill to master than Hyper Fighting.

As I said earlier in the thread:
Simple parts, complex interactions.

there are simple games that are deep and there are complex games that are deep

Herpaderpaderp SNK renegade a derpaherp

Look, I admit, less mainstream games should get recognition, my main game for a long time was GG and GGX2^C, but claiming SF4/MVC3 players wont have good opinions is retarded. Just because they play a commercial game, doesn’t mean they don’t understand the deeper mechanics behind the games themselves and what else is out there, that’s like claiming some mainstream musician knows nothing about their instrument because they haven’t played death metal…

that is a really bad comparison

a better one would be “that’s like claiming some mainstream musician knows nothing about their instrument because it is a plastic child’s toy that they slam their hands on and my guitar is made out of crystal and diamond and sounds really nice” except for it would be right

And if your first fighting game was King of Fighters XIII? That’s a pretty damn good fighter, but someone who started out with it probably doesn’t have much experience. So does their opinion matter because they’ve played a good fighter, or does it not matter because they have zero perspective?

Just trying to be the Devil’s advocate here.

Look, as a musician with contacts a lot of the most intelligent, educated musicians I know play really simple music, not twiddly twiddly shredding. They can, but they don’t, and if you gave the majority of drummers that do 16th kicks at 300bpm a pair of sticks they could practice a year and still not the get the phrasing on a Bernard Purdie number. I’m not saying there is no skill in extreme metal, only that skill can be measured in different ways, and just because you can put inputs into the controller fast and accurately doesn’t mean you can read the flow of a fight and pick the right move for the right situation, watch Daigo vs. Mago (Guile vs. Fei Long) at the Canada Cup and look at how he punishes those Rekkas with air grabs, that’s prediction and a deep understanding of the game.

you’re fucking retarded

**they’ve played 1 game and any opinion they form will simply ONLY come from that game. I’ve played so many god damn fighting games that my opinion is going to be well rounded around games that support scrubs and games that don’t support scrubs. ** To know what those design flaws are, why they’re bad, and what has been proven historically to work will never come from someone who only plays sf4 or mvc3 because those are newer games. There is no history to make an informative decision, jeebus

you just joined this year and this month, calm the fuck down. You don’t know shit from shit yet

I’m not some random forum scrub who doesn’t have roots in the tournament scene. I’m grizzled

Been playing since the arcade bro, still own the old Sega carts and Dreamcast discs, perhaps I just haven’t bothered to get on forums like these because of trolls like you? Keep being ignorant man, people that play SFIV/MVC3 may have played other games, hell I have, I’ve got probably 40 different fighting games lying around my house at the moment, just because you prefer something less mainstream doesn’t make you more right. I prefer most ASW games over Capcom personally, but I’m not about to get all high and mighty claiming that SF players don’t know what a real challenge is because they don’t understand Guard Crush and haven’t humiliated some nub online with an Astral Heat.

wow and I thought xesaie was bad

its impossible to have good conversations on SRK because 99% of the people who are on here can’t play worth a god damn lick

I’m going to go back to being a good player and teaching more top 8 players how to win, you go back to your 40 games that have evidently taught you nothing.

Wow. You argued that because he hadn’t played enough he didn’t know anything. Then when he produced evidence he had, you changed your mind and just attacked him.

lmfao

Look at this SF4 video, wherein a good player plays against another good player and does things that the game’s design allows despite detrimental changes made to the basic mechanical design of the previous games.

Jesus Christ, we get it. You both have big dicks. Now stop measuring them, you’re just embarrassing yourselves.

Indeed, i miss wotlk arena it was more fun and you had more variables in order to master your class and the environment, i hated the retarded wizcleaves, as a warrior main i felt the pain of being globaled by the LSD setup  , it was the only thing that bothered me, now i have to deal with every bullshit that every class have and the homogenized/ dumbed down classes, is just depressing.

When you try to please everyone you loose the control of the player base and their needs, and that community is just so fucking awful, is the worst thing ever in the history of videogames, they want every thing possible in order to succeed without learning, is like 2 chimps throwing shit each other without reaching an agreement, and blizz is not the same company since the merge with Activision, their class design phylosophy is really absurd: 1 step foward and 2 steps back, and some people still play it because they can’t admit their addiction, people stays in the forums bitching all the time but they still play the game lol instead of playing other things, i’m glad i left that game.

The funny part is that arena is the most casual thing ever, i played arena only 3 hours per week with a nice success ratio because i played with the best people in a competitive realm at the same time i was able to play FG in my local scene 1 time per week, this shows a good design, after my experience with wow i don’t agree when devs try to reach a lot of audiences and try to please everyone one of them from a gameplay perspective that’s why you find games with a primary goal: reward players with a false sense of achievment, as i’ve said before the mentality of some gamers is just different now, some people don’t want to master the game they want everything available because they want to feel like winners, by nature some people remembers more when they lose instead of the positive experiences but they don’t understant that losing is a fundamental part when you try to learn and master something in a competitive environment, that’s why you see an endless circle of bitching and bad habits in their communities because they don’t accept this.

Holy shit…

Dat kyo…

I played a lot of classes and specs in season 8, and LSD was moreso the fault of warlocks as well as pve gear for the shaman and warlock. An ele shaman without pve gear actually took skill and did significantly less damage. Warlocks were the main fault and always have been. Warlocks will always be the best class in the game because of the retarded amount of tools they have along with a pet, high damage, and amazing survival and crowd control. Fuck warlocks.

Yes, seriously. You just sort of threw it out there without any justification. Someone’s gotta ask, although really it would be better if it were you.

Now, if you had said that KoF ‘98 was harder, this would be a pretty good point. Of course I probably wouldn’t have asked because no fuckin’ shit it’s harder. But you said that it’s deeper. It’s pretty easy to show that they’re not the same: consider a game which is both very shallow and very difficult.

Yes I could play the game myself, and I probably will, but I don’t know what evidence for that claim would even look like. I was sort of hoping that you would have some real insight on the matter, but then this happened.

The running joke is that player steals wins.
