Fighting games would be boring as all hell if you didn’t put every trope you could into the characters.

I think its possible to make a fighting game tell a story, but it takes a lot of talking, and people will get bored if they’re not JRPG lovers.

My bad about Sol’s ending, it’s still makes more sense than the mayority of the FG nowadays though…

I am a JRPG lover, and a hardcore megaten fan, I love Persona even though I don’t like P4A, the problem here is that BB and other “JFG” take it to the extreme with stupid desings, weaboo music, and ripped off game mechanics…

I think Tekken has a very good plot, even if the mishimas are nearly innmortal lol

Jojo’s bizarre adventure even though it is was based on the manga did a better job at the story than the miniseries. I’m not talking about the shitty psx port.

Which has zombies, demons, a god?, elemental wraiths, a steam punk cyborg, a spirit/animal maido, ghosts, joukais, onis, lolis, etc, etc.

BB is the 1st of their works that started a little nuttier than the others, and still is not something as you like to make it see, humans that control magic vampires and a group of people who believe that science > magic, it is something that goes with their culture and the contrasts of the spiritual side and technological side.
The stable time loop is there to add the dramatic value of fighting against destiny, whatever.

Fighting games are the same, you want to attract the players with interesting character designs and interesting gameplay, so you throw what people like (which again is purely subjective), the story is there just as an excuse to justify why they are fighting or as a bonus for those who actually care about that.

I always wanted something like arcsys did with GG judgement, at least that way you can have something to do outside viewing cut scenes/ visual novel dialogues and then fighting the cpu, though it doesn’t help to tell in a better way the story in the long run.

I never put to much attention to the Jojo story when i played the game on arcades, since the anime/manga was not known on our country, i was more interested on playing the game against other people :stuck_out_tongue:

Kappa

SALT - SALTY

no one uses the term correctly. i thought you had to be slightly pissed or annoyed at how you lost. sayin someone is salty is sayin you know they are heated an pissed an the way they lost was cheesy cheap or scrub like fashion. Yet everytime I see the term thrown around its not used right

I think I have literally witnessed from tournaments ONE player (since the term was ‘coined’) truly define Salty. SANFORD… why? not cause he might get pissed off or have his moments emotionally cause we ALL as serious gamers/tournament goers have…BUT when he is salty after a loss that young man will want a run back/money match so fuccin fast its bananas. Like right there…he is willing to hold up the next match to run dat shyt back, lol. yes there has been other that request something ‘later’ (these "salty suites’) to enact revenge upon a loss after they get some strats before it goes down (yes… i said it)… but to be salty have salt…sanford has been the only one from what ive witnessed (once i described it yall will probably point out others but just saying).

You never heard that expression, “What does kill me makes me stronger, as long as it’s me?” Uncultured heathen.

It’s funny how this thread started dumb and then spiraled into higher stupidity.

Welcome to FGD.

Dat vortex.

All of it.

This thread is an entertaining read. I agree with a lot of what’s been said so far, I’m only a few pages in though.

I hate the terms
"Finish your plate"
“Dat new technology”
“Free/Stay free”
"Wong Factor"
Any phrase saying a character is underdeveloped despite there being ridiculous amounts of info on said character
and any phrase that implies that pro players don’t go into training mode to practice.

This is particularly annoying as I neither know who this chap is, or what ‘Kappa’ means.

Still reading through and things are getting better

More dislikes:
Reverse OCV… really? It’s a comeback and you used x-factor, a comeback mechanic
Lame… I build a keepaway team with the intent to keep you at a distance because of weak rushdown and you want me to play to my weakness because you can’t get through? I’ll jump right on that for ya.
Free… Most people I’ve encountered don’t know the difference between that and sandbagging. If I lose to you then fund my boy to money match you then challenge you again for double the money why not take the “free” money?

It sounds like your problem with reverse ocv is that you’re looking at it in a game its not really meant to be used for.

Don’t take it out of context lol. I don’t think atheists saying “gdlk” is really what makes it annoying! It’s just a generally annoying term :stuck_out_tongue: If anything it should be more of an issue for theists saying it, as comparing someone or something to a god is blasphemy surely? :open_mouth:

What’s with the word ‘crush’. I.e this move crushes lows. Don’t we already have a word for that, invincibility?

Option Select

Almost everything actually

Haha, that’s just the definition though surely? If it was called something stupid like “input smudging” then yeah!

Edit: Sorry, just being pedantic.

This very well could be but since when did a comeback become called a reverse OCV? Don’t get me wrong I can very well see someone getting happy birthday’d (another term I very well hate and doesn’t make sense) and those two characters never got a chance to do anything then your third character came in and cleaned up shop. Just don’t call it a reverse OCV in every circumstance that you have a comeback against one or two characters with less than 50% health.
