Fighting game lingo you find annoying

Actually and I say this with confidence the most used term that should have been said at that start of this thread…
“Try Hard” look it up on urban dictionary for some nice definitions.

Before what? lol
You wave your MTG acumen around like I’m supposed to give a shit.
That has nothing to do with the definition. If anything, it just tells me you are used to using it the way other MTG players around you were using it, which is exactly the same as what Smash players are doing- Accepting standards given from above without thinking for themselves.

Using the simple definition that “meta-game” is the opposite of “mini-game”:
Deck building and choosing which deck to go for, is A PART OT THE GAME ITSELF. EXACTLY LIKE PICKING A CHARACTER AT THE SELECT SCREEN IN A FIGHTING GAME.
(To make it easier for you to understand, if MTG was in video game form, all the deck building and picking, were rules written on the disc just as anything else.)
Since it’s not “outside” of the game, and you can’t say that the match itself is a mini-game of it, it’s not a meta-game. The rules are on the same “level”, not “above” or “beneath” each other.
That’s like saying that choosing to produce 6 zerglings is “above” all the things you are going to do with them once they are out. All of those are rules of the game. None of them can be called “meta-game”.

In a few years I could probably give a much better answer, but that will do for now.

w/e I’m not here to defend it. Just find your holier than thou attitude super annoying (do you really shudder at the thought that people who casually use the term “rape” also may vote? seems pretty judgmental). Go fight the good fight and get in peoples faces at tournaments when they say their opponent was “playing like a fag.” Very noble cause

The difference, you uneducated fucking idiot, is that if Vanilla had stuck around I would’ve been playing Trish head first into a bunch of Wesker dickriders that don’t know how bad of a match up that is. You see that? That’s me making a decision based on the metagame. On the other hand what the rest of you wankers do is go “lol I’ll totally take wolverine to evo” and then ran into that metagame call Viscant did by rocking that Haggar assist with Wesker on point. You see that? That’s using the metagame properly.

Keep your head out of your ass and your posts away from mine. Until you’re close to my level you ain’t fit for my shadow.

That’s fucking swag I aint gonna lie.

There’s very little purpose. In the medical example they’re describing with great precision and detail the difference between a bacterial infection and an autoimmune response. In tiers its a fancy way of saying super-duper good.

And again, you could just say top tier and slide everyone else down, with superior clarity and meaning.

Its not like I expect them to stop using the term any time soon :stuck_out_tongue:

Y’know what, hold that right there. We have people who get holier-than-thou because they play rushdown instead of keepaway, or because they play games that are more difficult than others. Since that’s apparently acceptable, I’m going to take the fact that I hold myself to a higher social and moral standard than people who just throw out “faggot” for fun, hold it to my chest, and wear it on my sleeve, abso-fucking-lutely.

Yes.

You should have.

Why the fuck should I lie? I kind of wanna do that if I somehow win some money at NWM, spell out YALL GOT RAPED in cash right in the middle of the floor. Shit niggas get raped gotta let em know.

Addendum to my post above, app hates long edits:

And does there have have to be a deep reason anyways?

Nigga…can I call you nigga? My nigga. My nigga LeonHeart, I see that you have been here for a minute an are enjoying yourself quite a bit. That’s great. We all hope you are having lots of fun with all these new fighting games that brought plenty of new people into the fold. Its brought some bad but it is mostly good since a lot of stuff that was esoteric became readily available (fighting game sticks is the big one here). What you need to understand is that not everybody shares your morals. You see your morals are your own. While you may not necessarily be ok with the language, at the very least you need to understand that these are grown ass men talk to other grown ass men and that those words, in their context, have a related but different meaning in the way they are being used.

Because of this you need to back off; SRK is not a beacon for good behavior. This is a place to play to participate in fighting game fandom which concentrates mainly on Capcom games. We have people posting from all over the planet. There are plenty of odd things happening all over the planet. Do not expect people to share your point of view on anything. But more importantly when you feel a need to tell somebody something about what they said just…hold dat. You don’t have to use it and we’ll respect your decision to not use it. I assure you though that at your tender age of 19 I can place in a mountain of morally ambigous decisions which will leave you crying until your sense finally drops and you become a proper grown ass man.

So please, please, please, mah nigga LeonHeart: keep that shit to yourself.

Raise your hand if you have friends who have been raped? I have and they’re not about to go around telling people what to do with their lives.

You seem hellbent on trying to downplay that there’s an actual purpose to term “God Tier” that conveys a different meaning than “Top Tier”. I hope you don’t think you’re the first person to suggest the “call them top tier and move everyone else down one”.

ya all that shit is pretty stupid too.

just fyi though I don’t think people will respond really well to your “if you say fag/rape/whateverelseyoufindoffensive you are a lower form of life than me” campaign. you aint the real cap america, youre just a fighting game player.

I don’t care what you call me, it’s all about context.

For example, nigger/nigga/nyguchk/however the hell you want to spell/pronounce it.

You can call me that, as long as you mean it in a non-threatening capacity.

I have friends who have been raped, and crack RAPE JOKES.

The point is, it’s not what you say, it’s what you mean behind the words.

If some dude walked up to you, and said “I took real good care of your mom last night”, would you hit him because of what he said, or how he said it?

nothing quite like watching 16-35 year old males discuss what is and what is not acceptable.

Whatever happened to that swearing patrol guy that would catch everyone swearing and give you warnings and stuff? He was way sicker than you. And more polite

Hey so, I’m not quite sure who this Leonhart guy is, but if he’s who I think he is, he went to his first tournament ever last week.

If not, he’s one of our other new locals. ALL of them are fucking annoying, if you ask me. But yeah… no need to argue about what goes on at tournaments or whatever with him. He doesn’t know.

I’m honestly baffled why me thinking its a bad usage is such a big deal. Does other people feeling the same way weaken my position?

I’m not actually so influential that me hating on a term commonly used in the community is going to get it expunged. (yet!)

I respect that, and I appreciate that you treated my opinion like it was an alright opinion to have, whereas pherai was just dismissive right off the bat. There was no sort of mature conversation or anything. If you’d gotten to this first, I probably wouldn’t be as salty, although I’m more prone to anger about things like this because, yes, I have friends who are gay, I have friends who have been raped and molested, etc.

Also, most of the time I can just hear it and let it go, because I know most of the people from my local FGC don’t mean these words in their most hurtful contexts. They don’t intend to casualize “rape” as a term, they don’t mean to disenfranchise non-heterosexuals, etc. I can just let it go because people are out having fun and describing things in the most colorful way. IE, getting beat hard is rape, and Dr. Doom isn’t just using divekicks, he’s “PUTTIN’ EM IN DA FOOTLOCKAH!”

That said, this thread was absolutely the place to raise this as an issue, it’s supposed to be about terminology that annoys me, and yes, those words I brought up because they do a fuck of a lot more than annoy me. I was especially annoyed because after 14 pages of thread, there was nothing about these ways we communicate that, for what adds up to no reason at all, puts the community in a bad light and makes us look like oversized 12-y/os.

Basically, I realize discussions about the sorts of things I brought up should always have context, and this thread is/was definitely the context.

its fun to antagonize you
