The term is applicable although its a pure insult ripping out something based on 2d interactions to physical fighting. So really, go ahead, call it footsies all you want. I understand the logic, but it just annoys the linguist in me. Clarity of communication should be key (although see below). It would be just as clear to insiders and more clear to outsiders if ‘god’ tier were reduced to ‘top’ tier and ‘top’ were reduced to ‘upper-middle’ or something. Top should mean Top.
Medical lingo is an interesting comparison, because afaik it’s difficult to understand due to the extreme precision they’re aiming for. Any doctor worth his salt should be able to (and hopefully does) explain what’s happening to you in clear terms you can understand.
Trucker lingo is different, it’s basically a cant (per thieves cant for those of you who are into fantasy stuff), and is intentionally designed to be unclear. I hope that’s not what we’re trying to do with FG lingo ><

The whole thing is it’s aribtrary and goes against the definition and logic of the words. What you’re saying is that the term adds extra emphasis and says “Yes these characters are really really excellent, far and above the rest of the cast”. In my personal opinion, top would have served just as well. Or ‘first’ or ‘A’. It’s a superlatives arms race, and irksome to me.

The thing with stuff like Yipes quotes is that the massive rote repetition is wearing. A guy announcing and being hype and excited is great and adds to the experience, but 10,000 people copying him does the exact opposite.

Most terminology I don’t like is something used incorrectly, (which means that most of this is used correctly because most of it has to do with opinion calls, like “dat”, “swag”, “godlike”, “broken”, “tier”, etc,) which only really bothers me because it happens a lot in the *Smash *community, because that community is not terribly clear with it’s lingo. Now, I know that this didn’t come from Smash, but would you guess that “wavedash” refers to jumping (often short-hopping) and then using the ground to cancel and air-dodge to move faster horizontally?
But what really makes me cringe is when people use terms like “rape”, “gay”, or “faggot” and pretend they’re not offending somebody in the room. I shudder to imagine the possibility that some of you people vote. That’s part of the reason why I like terms like “free” and “lame” that I hear in Marvel because in Smash you usually hear “rape” and “gay” instead. The world’s best Melee player, Mango: his catchphrase is “Ah, rape,” and he once posed with some of his prize money in cash arranged to spell that. Classy.
