Fighting game lingo you find annoying

The only one I dislike is “Vanilla”.

Otherwise, you guys are just silly and anti-culturist.

…But that would mean you are too…o.O

I don’t care that people use it, I just don’t like it as a label, but I even use it myself.

Some people in here don’t want any slang or coined words used ever.

Oh I’ll cop to that, the culture is kind of an embarrassment you put up with to enjoy the games.

“LOL KOF IS FOR THA MEXICANS AND CHINESE!!!”

Dislike:

  • Technology: It’s pretentious and I don’t see what was wrong with saying ‘Tactics’. Makes all this seem more important than it really is.
  • Vortex: Very against terms used to describe something that already had (several) terms to begin with.
  • Random: Though this is legit, I agree that it’s one of those terms people use willy-nilly. Just like…
  • Free/Stay Free (Every time I hear this I think, “Bitch please, stream monkey.”)
  • Exposed (This and Free used by people who couldn’t dream of beating the players they call it on)
  • Scrub (Once a legit term now used by… Scrubs)
  • Newb (this one goes beyond fg)
  • Vanilla is one thing. Chocolate is pushing it.

Like:

  • Happy Birthday: When I catch two characters in a combo I feel instantly jubilant.
  • Mix-Up: Respect those who take it different directions with the only term fit to call.
  • Nicknaming Moves: This is natural and I find no issue with this.

FGC Attitudes That Make Me Sick:

  • Do a complicated combo, even if it isn’t practical at the time, you get respect. Do a simple series for sure damage and even win doing just that; you’re a scrub. People forget the importance of getting the W however you can.
  • Getting shit for characters you pick. Nobody should be judged on who they use until after you see they’re just emulating without due process.
  • Having something personal against any player in general. Get over it. I, however, find Yipe’s following to be quite annoying. Nor do I find him particularly clever myself.
  • People having beef with Keits. I’m not holding his jock or anything but people take it far.
  • Same with S.Kill.
  • And Ono.
  • Niitsuma, too.
  • Complaining about weak/strong characters. Then complaining about patches. Can’t have it both ways.
  • Blind love/hate for popular/non-popular franchises.
  • Writing off an upcoming fg pre-release, then buying it anyway. This makes me write you off in a hot second.
  • This thing between traditional fighting gamers and Smash players? Sad. Just sad. Stop it.

Can I change my answer to these?

“Bodied”
“Pringles”
“Broken”
“Free”

These words are all misused/overused . . . usually at the same time. The only Pringles I wanna hear about are the deliciously unhealthy snack food.

Yea, I hate when people use “Free” and “Bodied” when they see someone or themselves barely beat somebody. Those are called good close games, and you/they won. 10-8 is not bodied or free. 10-1 is bodied.

I hate when people can not spell Ridiculous correctly

Fuck that, it’s a neck kick.

Well, Keits is a dick IRL, with humble beginnings, and he’s average at best. He also dissed everyone in Cincy/Dayton at last PowerUp, I was watching him play casuals with my boy who the most known locally by big names the night before, and he said 'Oh, well atleast there is SOMEONE good to play for now." And this guy has been mediocre forever. So, yeah, fuck him. If it wasnt for respect of the venue, he’d have got a real good cussing out. He overrates his own importance.

Anyway, most of the words/lingo, come from shut-ins and nerds. The FGS wasn’t NEARLY as ‘lame’ as it is today, back when arcades existed. Why? Simple, back when you had to go to the arcaded, there were no shut-ins, socially inept people at arcades, because going to a game center/arcade meant that you had to be around PEOPLE, and girls, and all that good stuff. Shut-ins don’t do that. However after the 2009 revival of FG’s they can simply make plans online, and go directly to where games are getting played, with no social activity involved, except with other like poeple. Get a bunch of lame people around, and well, you see the result. I mean, regular people started saying salty in 91 and stopped in 93. What kind of lingo option-select technology do you expect shut-in to come up with?

“Hold That Shit”

Still funny if used sparingly and in proper context, but I heard someone today say “hold that parry” when they were on third strike.

It was on a friends laptop, so I just moved my chair over, looked the person dead in the face, and honestly asked him “what the fuck does that even mean?”

Though, I guess I’m also just as bad, since I call 3s’s Chun’s back fierce “stop sign” and when people try to contest it, “traffic violation”

most likeky. you gotta think he had probably been saying a lot of that stuff for a while before that vid came out and its already 4 years old.

i highly agree!

“On blast!” Please. Kill it. Plus it reminds me of my middle school days. No one wants to be reminded of that.

“fraaay”

Its stupid how fruitcakes turn everything around to make “free” sound more worse than it is. closet folks these days

I think FG lingo has the same effect as all lingo. It’s fine as long it’s used in measured amounts and people don’t take themselves too seriously. Like all humor related terms, when used too much or taken too seriously, it gets old. Quick.

My personal hate goes out to “bodied”, just because imho it sounds ridiculously stupid.

What I find most annoying is the amount of fucking kids on my lawn.

I used to refer to it as a cross over. I probably won’t say that in a actual live setting, but I’m still going to think of it as a cross over instead of a cross up. Mostly because I’m crossing over their head.

And yeah, I know crossovers are games like SFXT and the MvC series. It’s just the word that pops in my head when I see or do one.

At the same time I would never call a mix up a mix under or a mix down or something, so that’s probably a little hypocritical on my part if we are looking at it under a strictly logical lens.
