Some of the stuff I’ll agree with, but there’s definitely no way she loses to 2.1 Akuma and probably still won’t lose to 2.5 Akuma. Guile’s 2 bar V Trigger is kind of annoying, but once he gets docked back down to a 3 bar trigger and upside down kick gets nerfed he should be pretty manageable.
Losing to Fang, Sim and Juri just doesn’t make much sense to me considering Ibuki has climbed to win the near biggest US major of the year while none of those characters have comparatively close in results. That’s on top of just purely analyzing the matchups. I’ve heard PR Rog say Rog loses to Fang also, but I can’t even fathom why considering Rog’s potential to just do one dashing forward thing right and put Fang in a corner with only 4 frame buttons and a throwable EX reversal
I can tell Serp doesn’t like being zoned, but not liking being zoned and a character actually having it rough vs zoning are 2 different things.
Fang buttons > guile. Guile relies in this matchup on his projectiles, and while he beats most of the cast with them, ibuki has ex raida, bonsho kick and slide to completely avoid his projectiles. Agaisnt fang she loses to the combination of stationary projectiles + better normals imo
Juri is kinda the same but with lesser projectiles and a better vtrigger.
The fact that ibuki won FRXX proves nothing on how her matchups play. Xian didnt get in the way of infiltration Juri or Champ Sim or Tokido Akuma. Honestly akuma is another wild pick, imo akuma has all the defensive tools to neutralize ibuki but it is a wild pick nonetheless. Time will tell.
Matchup with Akuma looks about even still with that footage. Just a matter of who gets the better momentum and Akuma at 875 means he’s one of the few characters that has legitimate health issues in this game. Which is why they’re buffing him up to a grand 900 since I guess he isn’t cheap enough already.
The only time I felt Akuma even remotely annoying is when he goes in the air and the Akuma in the video mostly stayed grounded where it’s risky for him to trade too many buttons vs Ibuki that will lead to heavy damage and the start of set play.
When I think of matches Ibuki could potentially lose, I just don’t think of characters as far down the current tier list as Fang, Sim and Juri. Not that it matters that much what tier they are as you can lose to characters that aren’t high tier by virtue of what happens in the match. Just also don’t see anything about those matchups that are worse than even.
Ibuki’s pressure and set play is too advanced at this point for Sim to survive an even matchup vs her even with his tiny health buff and whatever new safe low medium he’s supposed to be getting. Sim and Fang both run into the big issue of Ibuki’s MK or HK command dash disrespecting them if they’re off in their zoning at all. Just takes one bad v skill, jump or upwards fireball from those guys and she can go in on reaction.
Juri I would say is even at worse. Her 2.5 buffs are only slightly helping her AA and defense game. Nothing that specifically will make the match much harder for Ibuki. If Juri gets her spacing game going she can keep Ibuki at bay and has solid AA, but she can’t really match Ibuki’s momentum and ability to end a round quickly. Ibuki is also generally better at building V Gauge with a safe on block V Skill and a much better crush counter game. Juri’s charged V Skill is really really strong, but you have to charge it first.
Nah you need to take a lot more results than just one event. Too small a sample. Would need to see a lot of Ibukis do poorly vs Akumas to even really assess that
@AweSam We already have a matchup thread so I’ll just post here.
This is a tournament that Xian recently won vs OilKing’s Rashid. Generally the big part is just knowing when and what to interrupt the tornado strings with. Using V Reversals to get out of the tornado strings is not optimal since it burns away your V Trigger and they’re mostly not true block strings where you can use other moves to get through the gap. Xian was using EX Raida to get through some of the strings.
Not sure what exactly you can punish the eagle kick with, but if you mess around in training I’m sure you’ll find some options. Oil King rarely ever eagle kicks Xian so he must know that there are punishes for it and doesn’t want to risk it.
