Started feeling comfortable after a month. Really weird at first though. Now I have better execution than I ever had with stick or pad. My learning curve still hasn’t plateau yet either. One thing though- My hands have been getting tired. It’s allot of button pushing.
Haha I can imagine, I use seimitsu buttons too so I’m familiar with tired finger syndrome. I like hearing this though, I feel like the hitbox might be the wave of the future for gaming. I’m on it, I’ll post some pics when I finish putting it together. Thanks for the tips!
I’ve always had a question, I use Ps2 controller, and I play with the analog thumbsticks, I can use the dpad but it hurts after awhile so i stick with the analog… I can tell how people who use the d-pad would have difficulty converting to the fight stick. So i guess I wanna know since I use the analog, which is sortaa kind of like a joystick, would it be easier for me to switch over to a fight stick. Anybody ever done this wanna give me some insight.
Analog stick is something that messed around with for awhile on SF anniversary edition for basically the same reason as you: I couldn’t use the d-pad on a ps controller. The thing is, its still a thumb skill. The big difference for me between a pad and a stick is thumb control versus wrist/arm/shoulder control. Using a fight stick is more of a full body task. I’ve noticed that it takes more energy to play a game on the stick because its physically more work to do it, so you have to really get into it.
With that being said, everyone is different and I know a lot of people who adjusted to the stick faster than me. What I do think is that its worth giving the stick a try, and stick with it for awhile even when its frustrating. At the end of the day, you get some more insight at the very least, and if you’re able to hold your own in an arcade it’ll be worth it.
Playing on the Analog is impressive to me. I can play pretty decent with the d-pad. The analog stick is a whole different ball game when compared to d-pad. It’s easy yet difficult at the same time.
When I went to stick it was not because of the directional control but for the attack button layout. I still have remnants of a callous on my thumb from my directional pad days though.
Hey Glory, I’m waiting for my Hitbox from Gummo. I’m very excited to get my hands on it.
Cool. I’m glad you pulled the trigger on one. You won’t regret it. I can’t wait to see it. I’m excited for u. Not only are they the next revolution of controller but they look cool too. Nice and clean. About the size of a lap top. Put it in ur back pack and go. Expect your left hand to be uncoordinated at first but don’t get discouraged.
I was firmly a stick guy in the Marvel series…until Marvel 3 showed up with its dumbass layout. Nope.
<---- pad warrior.
For other games though i try to use stick.
I’ve been practicing with inputs on a spare keyboard that I have. It’s weird because since I was young I would always roll my fingers L to R and R to L on both hands kinda like in a wave. I think this would help me with HCF and HCB motions when I get my Hitbox. I got it Dual Modded + Neutrik RJ45 installed and also changed the buttons to all black because I purchased it used from a guy. I was pretty decent with stick but I always like the idea of being able to control your movement with buttons. I feel like it will add precision into my gaming. When I’m in a clutch situation it gets very stressful to input FADC without overdoing the 2xQCF. For example on Rufus, when you do his ex Messiah kick and FADC to Ultra. If you don’t do it correctly you can over shoot it and it end up doing a snake strike instead. If you watched the recent Final Round, you see Justin Wong dropping that combo. Imagine that guy is world class when it comes to execution…
The only issue I have with pads vs. sticks is that for a significant period I was no longer going to arcades so now my dexterity with a stick has suffered. I can’t do consistent DPs which leads me to not want to use one, plus I don’t want to invest in one only to decide that I don’t like it. Since the SFxT pads came out (and since finding an Xbox one that wasn’t defective; PS3 pad was godlike since day one) I’ve pretty much decided I’ll be sticking with the pad because it’s about as accurate as it gets for me.
That’s true, at the end of the day it’s all preference. I might have to say I do better on stick than pad though. I’ll have to wait and see where Hitbox lies for me when it arrives.
Yup I had to find out for myself. I don’t take peoples word at face value. When I went to stick I saw the advantage and when I tried the all button controller the same was evidence. One thing I know for sure though. Moding sticks and all button controllers is awesome fun for me. Working on my second ABC with LED’s now and I have two more projects planned after that.
Alright thanks, I just always thought stick players always had some sort of advantage, but I guess its just execution and what you’re used to. When I play I go back and forth between the analog and the d-pad. Like for wave-dashing and RDP’s oor holding down back, I’ll just switch over to the d-pad. For qcf/hcf motions i use the analog. I can do all those things on either the d-pad or analog, but I have way beter accuracy when i use em both during a match
One thing I really like about stick is the ability to plink with precision. That to me is the best part of stick
the madcatz brawl pad is a beautiful thing. The floating d-pad is so precise, and the 6-button layout makes cancelling easy. I might get the hori pad for 360 eventually. i use a tournament edition stick for umk3 that works really well, also. For street fighter, I’ll always be a pad warrior, but mk needs to be played with an arcade stick, imo.
I just started playing and I love the feel of using a stick. I grew up with no access to a local arcade, so using a stick makes me feel like I’m playing at an arcade like I wish I could have played at as a kid.
I also just love opening my stick up and modding it. I’m thinking about making my own wooden case.
Bit of a side note: OP, is your avatar your collection of sticks? Did you make a stick out of a gutted Guitar Hero controller? Could you post a bigger image? I’m intrigued.
The first time i played a fighting game was SSF2 on Sega Genesis using a pad, and have played on pads since then. I had no arcades in my area that offered fighting games, so I pretty much had no idea what I was missing until I decided to try out an arcade stick for SSF4. Before that I was never a huge fan of fighting games, they were just another type of game to me. However ever since I bought a fight stick, fighting games, especially 2d games are so much more enjoyable to me. It just feels so much more natural to play street fighter with an arcade stick instead of a pad. I haven’t looked back since.
i grew up using pads in the ps1 era since there were no arcades with FG’s then when i started college tekken 6 was really popular with my friends and we played at arcades a lot and i found out that i felt more comfortable using a stick than a pad.
All this talk about hitboxes makes me want to get one since before SFIV and mortal kombat 9 came out the only fighting game i played was melty blood on my laptop and i became pretty decent with a keyboard, might build one myself if i ever get funds.
