it’s next friday. Todays only the 11th
Got few ? or too sounds like sf4 and SF2HD are gonna be on 360? Is their gonna be any american sticks available? Is their gonna be a ps3 for SF4 / SFHD?
Always happy to answer questions when I have the time
The tournament will be run on 360 consoles. This is mainly because the majority of Portland (and Northwest in general) players have 360s and 360 arcade sticks that they are used to (btw, I myself am a PS3 owner).
During our casual sessions, we play both 360 and PS3 versions, but for the sake of tournaments–it’s pretty much a good idea to stick with one platform because otherwise PS3-only owners are eventually going to play 360-only owners. Locally/regionally, 360 wins out.
I don’t know what the state of Evo is though, I think someone told me they plan to go PS3 but I we’ll see.
We encourage participants to bring their own gamepads or arcade sticks, because it is likely that that is what they are most used to and it’ll reduce the amount of complaints “oh that gamepad just isn’t like the one I use at home.”
We do have gamepads and two Hori Fighting Sticks that will be available at the tournament. Unfortunately for American style stick fans, we don’t have any of those available. We’ll try to see if anyone is interested in bringing theirs and letting others use them, but that is entirely the call of the owner of the stick.
Chanchai do need me to bring my 360??? I’m gonna bring my Hori stick of course.
But you have 2 360’s right??? If anything I’ll bring my hard drive for seth unless someone got a memory card for seth…
Here’s the need list:
2 x SFIV saves on HDD or Memory Card with all characters unlocked (including Seth)
1 (or more) x Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix stored on a HDD, but not the same account/HDD as the SFIV save.
1 x 360 with HD Cables (HDMI or Componnet) and Power Supply (this is for the HD Remix Station).
Unfortunately, we are unable to take our 360 cables and power supplies out of the locked area for the HD Remix station. And because power supplies are specific to the generation of the 360, it might not be enough to just bring power supply and cables.
I am willing to pay one tournament fee for the person whose 360 and cables (and power supply) will be used for the HDR tournament.

A spinoff rule suggestion:
Macro Buttons
I propose that for a person’s FIRST TOURNAMENT, macro buttons are okay for them. But we will let them know that in the future, macro buttons aren’t allowed (unless common tournament rules, such as those at Evo, will allow them–I’m personally fine with people using macro buttons).
*Reasoning: This assumes macro buttons are generally banned, otherwise I could care less. The main reason for this rule is to let it go on first time tournament players. Not everyone knew the rule coming in, and I would like to break people into the SFIV community a bit easier by saying it’s cool the first time, but they will be expected to play tournament rules if they really like tournaments in the future. Also, while tournaments are not the best place for “new people” to join a community, they are the most marketable of events and have some level of attraction. If we want to expand a community, we don’t necessarily need to be too strict on the first timer.
Viewpoint: I personally don’t mind or care about macro buttons because I don’t see “an unfair advantage.” At tournament level, we’re playing on a level where the strategy and self-discipline are the biggest factors. Execution IS a factor (ie. in offline matches, I can’t focus cancel into ultras to save my life, but that has almost nothing to do with macro buttons), but the execution handled by macro buttons is not so much of a factor and sticks to have an advantage here where pads do not. Unless the macro buttons were the programmed sequence buttons of ages past, I don’t see problems with macro buttons that just cover 2 or 3 simultaneous button presses–that difference isn’t really going to give an unfair advantage. The main argument I see against them, in this context, is that the arcade cabinets didn’t have macro buttons.
ex. This coming tournament will be Ben’s second tournament. I would still say that under this rule, he can’t use macro buttons despite him being unable to do so in his first tournament. He’s also used to the rule now and knows it’s a rule. In the case of David, this is his first tournament as far as we know, I’m cool with letting him go with macro buttons in this first tournament. But in future tournaments, he’ll be expected to adjust.*
I’ll bring mine and you can cover my sfIV fee, I have HDR on that hardrive but have not dowloaded the most recent update since i havent played. But it can be used for HDR or SFIV. I have HD cables and seth on my HDD.
Ill Bring my Hard Drive and cables Chanchai if you need me too. Im gonna be showing.
Chanchai: I believe macros are in general NOT banned.
Yeah evo says that if you can bind it, (aside from crappy program combos in kof games) you can use it.
Cool, glad to hear macros aren’t bad. I either misheard or was misinformed (or collaborated in some speculation).
So from what I gather is that sf4, sf2HD will only be on 360. That their is not even a 2nd option of running it on ps3. Is their a remote chance that their could be 360 adaptors on deck? It’s unfortunite that I gotta work that day. Is their anyway that in the future that we could add 3’s,cvs2 too the roster for tournies along with SF4 , SF2 HD
^ suck it up. I play on pstriple and have no issues with the use of 360 for this tournament.
This shit is gonna be straight Ccccrack. I got some new people coming thru also.
Ken will be in full effect. And hop-ultra U ass
There are no ps to 360 adapaters that work. So of course there will be no adapters… Microsoft is dumb for that.
Also sadly I won’t make it out even though I want too, there is a concert at my house and like at least 45 people will be there so I really can’t leave my place alone.
Chanchai, quick questions for ya.
Do you have a 2 clipboards for each game being run???
2 envelopes to hold money???
and…Scissor for me to cut out names so I can random seed for the rest of non seeded peeps???
I could get you one clipboard total if that’s okay. We have scissors at Versis.
I’ll bring some envelopes for prize money

Ross, sad to hear you won’t be able to make it but totally understandable.
Hope you won’t have to clean up too much stuff at the end of the night.

Personally, I have a PS3 and would like to offer that option, but there are too many technical problems with running a tournament on two platforms. If there were good lag-minimized adapters available, it would really be great and we would try to make sure those would be available. But apparently that’s not an option.
We’ll definitely consider more games for future tournaments and how to set those up.
youre lucky t.hawk isnt in sf4 otherwise id kick your ass so hard, the next samb wannabe is gonna feel it.
Nick,
Can you do a 360 vs PS3 user comparison count based on who enters? There are many people who own PS3s and/or adapters but no joystick for 360. Running the game on 360 means there will be more joystick and/or pad sharing.
Off the top of my head, here’s some tourney regulars names and the system(s) they own:
Ray - PS3/360
BBH - 360
SamB - PS3
SamY - PS3
Ninjetik - 360
Slade - 360
Simon - 360
Ben - 360
Mackinzie - PS3
AJ - PS3
Bobby - 360
Ross - PS3
Thomas O. - PS3
Andrew S. - PS3
Dennis H. - PS3
Andrew T - PS3
Brian J - PS3
Val T - Neither but has PS2 stick w/convertor
Anthony - Neither but has ps2 stick w/convertor
So based on the above list it’s 6 on 360 vs 13 that have joystick options for PS3.
In the Portland area there are more PS3 users among tourney regulars.
If you’re trying to make and promote a new scene, 360 is a good choice.
We’ll just have to see what happens.
If I may, I’d like to name this event:
VERSIS BATTLE: First Attack!
I support this effort no matter what system its on. Just had to let this out.
