Since the 3DO port came out without old characters i bet they would have left them out in the snes port too.

man i can’t stand of these newer games. Tired of playing game where i have to deal with endless block string or combos last for days. where are the fighter where game don;'t degrade to muscle memory fest but outwitting each other.

Edit; remember time where i just had to learn mechanics and move list and I could start playing, but no now I need to learn several different combination, or I have to learn my opponent characters move list because reading their habits isn’t enough.

What games are you even talking about? If you’re getting put in an ā€œendless blockstringā€ as you call it, its your fault for either being too scared to attack, respecting your opponent too much or both.

He got beat by a Zato, probably.

If he’s talking about KOF, give him a pat on the back for trying. Anything else and he’s just a whiner.

KoF is not a game of endless blockstrings or combos. If you’re getting pressured nonstop it’s because you’re letting someone run you over, and the only long combos you ever really see in a match are HD combos, which at most happen 3 or 4 times a game.

Oh wow, I thought it was understood that he was exaggerating. I just meant that combos really can get rather long in KOF compared to an older game like Tekken Tag, where you’d only need to wait 2 seconds at most for a combo to be fully blocked. lol Yes, you can pretty much get out of any hitstring there is. But can you do it easily? No, and it doesn’t mean you’re getting run over if the guy can regularly pull commands out his behind from years of training/experience, that just means you were in over your head and you need to fight someone closer to your level.

There are many types of footsies in fighting games, a lot of which aren’t even called footsies. All fighting games have some sort of implicit resource in the form of space control.

Street Fighter: Strong normals/projectiles/reversals prevent you from charging in and going nuts. Every move has an area it covers (and by extension, an area that it does not cover) and the time it takes to return to a controllable state. Exploiting the holes in a move’s coverage becomes the main way of outplaying the opponent for a victory, or the weaknesses of your opponent’s approach if you are defending.

Guilty Gear: Things are overall faster and movement is much more fluid, but the concept remains. If I’m throwing a projectile with Ky, those are frames I’m not doing a low, overhead, or anti-air. Increased movement only increases the number of angles to approach from or cover. While Street Fighter has a simple ground vs jump system, Guilty Gear allows for a variety of approach styles (compare Slayer, Ky, and Pot in how they land hits) which leads to an equal variety of defensive styles (partly through system mechanics, but we also have active defensive moves like Axl’s counter and Volcanic Viper.) to deal with them and creates a ton of different match up dynamics.

There are still other systems, such as the ā€œProjectile Footsiesā€ in games like Touhou/Marvel or ā€œMy turn/Your turnā€ in Tekken. The point is, saying you don’t like footsies is a very misleading statement. In reality, you dislike systems that focus on stationary normals as a means of controlling space.

Only KOF13 has long combos.

I’ll take back the endless block string, i was in fusrated and vented in the wrong place. though if need game im referring to. Im speaking majority of the anime dasher, offensive driven games Melty, Uniel, Persona ultimax, Blazblue. Most of time committing to defensive play in these game is weak or just plain bad . Ironically while few have alot of defensive options, must become overshadow in the after fact frame traps or oki.

Zato is acceptable to me since he’s puppeteer character and requires resources, I could either actively destroyed puppet or wait out for puppeteer cold down period. Ram’s worst offender but Guilty gear game character specialist i don’t have to expect every match up to deal with it.

Kof while very fast game their usually a lot area’s of opportunity to disrespect them and as john say long combos don’t prevail.

I’m simply not adjusting to these games well, my frustration and ego got the best of me.

I have really got to stop relying on context when posting shit.
I thought this was a forum about online games, so why in the world would I be talking about anything other than XIII, which actually has an online mode? Shit man, I’m seriously done with you folks.

Very cool of you to own up to it. ^^
I hope you find a solution to your problems in those games.

Just wondering… whatever happened to Season’s Beatings? For all of 5 minutes I was thinking ā€œwait, there’s a major that happens in my state?ā€ and then looked into it and looks like the last one was in 2012.

Because XIII is not the only one you can play online. You can play KOF 94 up to 2003 inclusively on Fightcade and there’s 98UMFE on Steam also. Most people play either 98 or 2002.

Also, people go to offline meetups too. Y’know, tournaments and weeklies/monthlies/whatever-ies.

Where the hell did you get this idea?

SRK has been around even before online play became standard. This site is for the competitive fighting game community in general - Capcom focused, obviously (I mean, it is called ā€œShoryukenā€), but most people here, especially in FGD play alot of non-Capcom games as well. Also, considering that competitive play is at the forefront, offline play is the focus, since tournaments are offline.

Let me guess, none of those are bought in gamestop…

I don’t know. No seriously, that’s the last thing I think of, realistically. You can’t blame me, I live in South Carolina, we have more rodeos than game tournaments by a long shot. Really, about thirty minutes from here is Ware Shoals. They hold rodeos every month. o.O lmao Well, I just learned that Greenville hosted a tournament a while back, but yeah…

From the Ultra Street Fighter IV thread that updates every two minutes. crickets chirp
Well shit. In other words you go online to set up shit offline for online fighters? Or wait, offline fighters online to…

I would think since most people (unless this place magically has mostly FL, GA, CA people) don’t have access to tournaments that online would be the focus. I guess I just had things backwards. Like holy shit, so people really have it made these days. .__.’

LOL, not all people here live in remote places, so offline is an option for us.

If online is your only option though, which it looks like it is, you might wanna know that besides consoles and Steam, people play fighting games online on emulators for free, including those KOF games I mentioned. Fightcade is the most popular choice here because this is where you can play all the classic arcade fighting games and the netcode is really good, but some people also play games on SNES or even PS1.

I would say that most places, even the most crazy remote places, have some kind of offline fighting game community. Even if there’s people who drive for an hour (like myself), or nobody there is that good, or people don’t play the fighting games you like, I would wager that most people in the U.S. have SOMETHING available. It’s just usually a royal pain in the ass these days to find out where weeklies are in your area, people tend to learn about them by word of mouth, or sometimes by buried facebook posts.

Also… I don’t think too many ā€œseriousā€ KOF XIII players have bought a console copy from gamestop, or if they have, that’s not what they play. Most play on the Steam version which while having shitty netcode, is still better than the console ones’ netcode. Also they play a good bit of 98UMFE these days as well, also from Steam.

Not to mention… gamestop is the devil

This forum is about fighting games in general. Not everything said here will pertain to online. Also, KoFXIII isn’t the only KoF game that can be played online. GGPO says hi.

The game is shit. We’ve known the game is shit since 2 weeks into it. While there’s a lot of cool stuff in it, the game at its core, will live forever being shit.

There’s a lot of cool things about it but not enough to save it from its scatological existence.

Oddly enough it’s the brokeness that gives the game its appeal. Kinda like how a movie is so laughable bad that you still enjoy it. That and you get to play as your fav Marvel characters. That will always get casuals to play.

What do you mean by ā€œold charactersā€?
