Fei Long Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

I just picked up fei long and i was wondering how often you guys do:

crossup j.mk -> st.lp XXX EX or normal tenshin

i use this a lot. it sets up a lot of other optios after a crossup. do you guys use ths?

Yes I do. I just make sure to not become too predictable and mix it with j.MK -> st.LP cr.LP -> rekkas or whatever.

Hi, I’m new to fei and I’ve noticed that the combos listed always have cr. Jab to lp rekka to hp rekkas. But I found that I have an easier time landing cr. Jab straight into hp rekka by pianoing jab>hp while doing qcf and then doing the same thing for the 2nd and 3rd rekka as well. Is there any reason I should be using jab rekka for the 1st one instead?

^^^ i piano my rekkas too. but you want to make sure you hit confirm it. jab rekka is safer on block. but if you know you are going to hit, like in a bnb, going fierce is better

Are spicy wings a bad way of dealing with crossups on wakeup? I’ve been getting stuffed regularly, do I need to wait later perhaps? Also should I be trying to time it so that it auto corrects?

Flame kicks don’t work on cross-ups in oki (wake-up games where you’re on the floor) play. They always go the wrong way unlike SRK for some odd reason. It’s one of those things that gets me a lot when I play Ryu for a long time and switch to Fei. It’s better to just HK CW.

Ok I need to know if I can do this, cause I feel like I’m close but it’s just not happening yet:

Flame kick > FADC > CW > Ultra for 3 hits.

I only get two hits on the ultra, but I feel like I can get that 3rd final hit. I’ve tried every version of CW to do this but I haven’t suceeded. So far I tried this on Ryu. Maybe I can hit it off on other characters?

Yes you can get the third hit its just timing, its really to bad it won’t go into the ultra animation :frowning:

The link in Fei’s BnB (c.lk, s.lp -> c.lp xx Rekkas) is 3 frames, meaning 0.05 seconds time (still ain’t easy for me).

But it’s only really 3 frames if your opponent blocks, right? Because if he doesn’t block (manually) but mashes out some special move instead the time frame is longer - or is it not?
If it is longer - how much time does Fei have against mashed out SRKs/TUs to link the c.lp after the s.lp (dunno how exactly to apply the available frame-data in this example)?

I actually (almost) never try Fei’s BnB against Sagats, Ryus, Kens and Akumas.
With my inconsistent execution it currently works best against Abel and Balrog for me (the only characters I confidently apply the BnB).

if you arent comfortable using links, just mash c.lk. lol

the BIG problem with s.lp is the fact that it goes over most crouching characters.

I’m still trying to get down the c.lk, s.lk, c.lp 1-frame link as my BnB.

Now do I also only have 3 frames time on hit if the opponent mashes DP/TU hoping for me missing my link - or do I have even more time in this case (4 or 5 frames since the opponent isn’t blocking but trying to get his reversal out instead; or does “reversal” already mean it always comes out on their 1st frame after being out of blockstun)?

No, thanks. Fei being in SF4 is the reason I bought a PS3. I don’t want to become that type of player. And I’m improving with the BnB-execution. Sometimes online lag helps me to successfully do the link s.lp ~ c.lp. :rofl:

Read this often, but haven’t really experienced this yet myself as I mostly use the BnB against Balrog and Abel. Seems to hit them in crouching position…

You mean c.lk, c.lk, c.lp, right? Good luck with that… :wink:

New question:

After hitting the oppponent with EX or HK CW do you have more time to link into c.lk (-> BnB) than into c.lp or why is it suggested in this forums rather than going straight into c.lp xx Rekkas (don’t think it does much more damage)?

Still posting on linking stuff like:

a) low short > low jab

b) low short > stand short > low jab

c) hk/ex cw > stand fierce

d) hk/ex cw > low short/low jab > low jab

The reasoning behind using d) after hk/ex cw is to have an easier hit-confirm. If you use stand fierce link, you have to just KNOW that you got the timing or your rekka will be punishable. Leaving stand fierce empty is even punishable. There is no way around it. Even if you do stand fierce xx LK CW, if your fierce didn’t link, then your LK CW will be punishable. If you do MK CW, it doesn’t combo on all characters, though it is safe on block. This is another reason why some players just opt to throw here to still reap the benefits of a KND into some form of oki.

If you’re confident, use stand fierce.

If you’re not so confident, use low short > low jab or low jab > low jab…or stand jab > low jab…etc etc :party:

edit: Remember, some characters can’t duck jabs.

Since I’m not so confident with the 1-frame-link (below 40% success-rate with CW ~ s.HP xx flamekick) I’m gonna go for the sensible option.

and if you note that lag helps you with your links, then you are possibly inputting too fast in the first place (chaining)…then again, trying to adjust to online timing to compensate for slight differences in timing sucks altogether, but hey

I have some rekka issues. I can do simple stuff like the basic cr.lk cr.lp st.lp st.lp rekka rekka rekka but for some reason my rekka part of the link breaks for some reason. Can tell me if its just my timing or the game being stupid (i just recently started feilong )

not sure about the question, you mean your rekka doesn’t connect after the s.lp? or it connects but not the second rekka?

if second rekka means that your movement is too slow, if the first one then it means you are not doing it right, it is kinda tricky as doing it

question guys, if a move is at -3 at block, will a move with 3 frame startup able to punish it?

if youre missing the 2nd and 3rd rekkas, just piano the inputs. i hit them from right to left so it goes fireball motion + HP, MP, LP. even then lag will make it miss sometimes.

When that was happening for me, I kept doing it until I realized I was hitting my punches too early, doing things like…

Rekka’s are a very rhythmic thing.

Hi guys, i am trying to get 100% accuracy on flame kick FADC to chicken wing. But i get sometimes the command throw instead of the chicken wing. I was looking at the inputs and nothing seems wrong.

Really confused whats causing this, would really appreciate any feedback. thx
