Fei Long Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Personally, I do and have always done, leads to combo, better hit stun, better damage, links into itself, just all round one of the best pokes in the game.

Obviously not 100% of the time but yeah generally I think you should.

Do you guys ever use mp and hp rekkas in neutral the same way you would lp rekkas?(poke/whiff punish) I’m reading the USF4 bible and it says to never use the mp and hp versions, but ive faced people in my local that utilize it the same way they do lp rekkas and the range for lp rekkas seems sorta short with how much fei’s hurtbox sticks out during the moves startup.

Only if I get a good rhythm on when I feel a normal will be whiffed. Or if they do something dumb and easily punishable or simply make a mistake. Other than that mp/hp rekka are only for hit confirms.

For straight up footsies no… The lp sucks now because on some hurt boxes… Like crouching Elena, you can hit the first lp rekka and she’ll still fall out if the follow ups at max distance

I use mp because of the distance and start up, not many players will punish if you hit at the very tip, I also use these if I have trouble getting in to stagger my rekka’s into delay frame traps. If in doubt use EX rekka, it’s practically a no risk high reward button, that leads into a frame trap or pressure. One of Fei’s most important tools now that lp got nerfed.

ya, this was happening to me a lot vs Hugo… first hit would connect, second hit would whiff. It got really annoying so I just stopped using it.

So would you say lp rekkas shouldn’t be used as a footsie tool and only for things like punishes?

Also with rekkas nerfed as a whole, how is fei still considered top if he cant even completely fall back on them in neutral?

Fei still has godlike footsies. He can whiff punish well His normals are good, and the rekka still takes the opponent to where fei shines. The corner. Fei’s corner game is still scary.

Fk fadc combos lead into better damage with the cw and u1 fixes.

Dwu doesn’t particularly effect fei.

Fei’s most frequented poke at close/mid range got a small damage buff which adds up fast.

Rfa is useless for him so his meter game hasn’t changed.

I 'unno… He’s still all around solid. Just a bit tamer and must be played slightly safer.

Use the lp rekka to poke, it’s not that bad. You just have to get used to it’s pathetic range (lol) and plus if you get a counter hit you should be able to connect mp or hp Rekkas no problem.

I will say though, playing here (in the Japanese arcades) makes you not really use Rekkas so freely as most players punish hard. Some MU I don’t even bother with them unless it’s an EX, people react the shit all the time.

That being said, I did beat a 40,000BP Elena (90th ranking I think) and he got hella salty haha he can hold that cuz I still have no idea how to play that MU

Fei is top tier, because most of the characters in this game are ass.

You should still be using lp rekka for pressure with proper spacing. Only in matches like Vega/cody etc where they can reliably punish should you be a bit more careful.

Fei in neutral without rekka is still one of the best footsie characters, cr.mp, cr,fierce, cr.mk, cr.lk, cr.jab - still all some of the best footsie buttons in the game. That and even with the focus nerf, his focus attack is still up there with best in game.

Fei’s still very strong in this version.

Actually all of fei’s first rekka got nerfed.

SF4AE 2012
lp rekka (1): -4 on block
mp rekka (1): -6 on block
hp rekka (1): -8 on block

USF4
lp rekka (1): -5 on block
mp rekka (1): -7 on block
hp rekka (1): -9 on block

Rekka spacing got really tight.

I find it funny though that players need some kind of massive update and change log to start punishing rekka. I’ve noticed some players starting to punish stuff they didn’t punish before, even though they could have used the exact same punish in AE2012.

What are you guys doing for ground OS’s? Right now, I got the double OS Rekka~U1 down, and meaty cr. mp OS rekka down as well as the obvious matchup specific ones. But for universal ones would those two cover it?

Also got some quick tips vs Decapre and Rolento to share. Since this is the more active on the stickies I’ll just post em here.

If you ever block Decapre’s Psycho Sting and she doesn’t FADC it, you get a free reversal HK Chicken Wing on her. This means she loses at least 300 points of her life at any time you block this.

It’s a great idea to learn how to punish Rolento’s PPP, P roll. In whiff punish situations, I’ve found that cr. hp, sweep, and dp to be the most reliable. Try and stand block him if the roll connects and you get reversal lp/EX rekka on them. It’s something I’d go practice in training mode for sure. Also, if you need to close out a round and Rolento is pressuring you with normal xx knife, you can reversal Rekka in between the normal and the knife, and then juggle with U1. Otherwise, you can just close st. hk for counter hit or dp xx fadc if you have meter ready.

Hey guys, anyone on East Coast U.S want to help me get better with my Fei…

I’m slowly falling in love with the character, wish I played him when he had all the chicken wing mixups…but he’s still solid.

What are you guys doing vs Rufus?

I think the main thing is that I don’t know where the sweet spots are when midscreen at all.

I read up on the lk chicken wing stuff and that sort of helps but not enough for me.

Finally, are you guys using crouch tech + mp vs up close dives?

Most important thing to remember about Rufus is that with no meter, he’s free. He can’t reversal, he has no get off me move. So you have to take the offense. Tech with cr.mp works if you slow time it, neutral jump HK is also very good for dive kicks. Focus dash his cr.fierce at mid/far range and punish the recovery with rekka - since he has no other footsies. Just remember , in this version, eating a throw is ok if you change up your delay patterns, that and his throw damage got nerfed to a respectable level, better that than target combo into Ultra. If he has Ultra he will always try to land it so be wary of teching when he’s got it stocked. Better off taking a gamble on backdash or EX chicken wing if you feel you’re getting swamped.

For range you either want to be right on him, or at a longer mid range whiff punishing/playing footsies etc where you can read his jumps, if you sit with a small gap like a character length he can instant dive kick and you’re in the mixer. Bait him hard on WU too, Rufus players always rely on messiah. Can feel like a tough match but I still think Fei beats him.

Also if you crumple Rufus you get 3 hits of the heavy CW for big damage. He’s one of the few characters that works on.

How to do crLp to LRekkas? How to do that input?

Do you mean Light Rekkas or is that a typo? I dont know why you would want to go for light rekkas tbh.

But anyway, you can either negative edge the move, cr.lp (hold), rekka motion, lp(release) or you simply double tap light punch while doing the motion.
Since lp is a really fast move, the cancel window is shorter than with moves like cr.mk into hadoken with shotos.

I didn’t know that you can do cr.lp to heavy punch rekkas?

You can to any rekka. Hp for dmg.

Ok thanks.
i Will give in a try.
