*The Street Fighter III that we did not see, the one that Fei Long, Cammy, Dee Jay and T. Hawk were destined for would have been much better than the SF III that was released. The four new characters meant for SF III were early on in the design stages.

lolwut
fuck you bro, fuck you…
*However for many both inside and out of Capcom, the biggest hook was the plot. Rather than being strictly a fighting game, SF II’s emphasis was on plot. The fighters were now fighting for something more than a title. *
And where exactly did you get this information from? For such a lengthy essay I would expect footnotes/works cited. I somehow doubt really anyone cares about the plot of SF. I don’t think in Capcom they cared much either. I’d think they’d be more interested in designing cool/fun characters with interesting moves and exciting music/graphics. It’s an arcade game, what arcade game do you go to play for the story.
SFIII is a better game. It ripped out all the shit that was assumed about SF and replaced it with all new mechanics and characters. That just shows that Capcom was excited to be working on it. If they hadn’t been it would have just been SFII with EX moves and selectable supers. They’d pull an SNK and just reuse the sprites if they weren’t pumped to be working on a new project. SFIII has always felt like a labor of love kind of game. The animation is gorgeous, the backgrounds are lush, the music is (I think) the best in any fighter yet and they threw out their conceptions of character design/theme and rewrote them. Chargers with qcf, hcf, srk? Why not? Why not give like half the cast some kind of command grab? Stocking supers? Selectable supers? EX? Parry? Dash?
They took chances. You don’t take chances unless you’re 95% sure they’ll produce something worth while.
Thank god for SFIII.
I support this
I didn’t write this.
It’s good that you didn’t write it.
It’s bad that you linked it.
I have no idea who you are so how would I know that and why would you just post it without any comment.
Cool dude.
This essay is pre-SF4, and he’s so hung up on the storyline that he forgot what makes the game fun…
yea this guy needs to chill…
but I’m soo glad they didn’t use those super street fighter II new challengers for sfIII. And I’m glad SFIII uses almost a completely new cast, seeing them sfII chars in 5 sfII games, cvs games, alpha games, sfIV, and whatever else games gets old…man the freshness of SFIII is just great. My wish if they made a new street fighter would be keep the engine and graphics the same as 3rd strike, just make a new game with a fresh cast of 20 new characters…ahhh but its all about the familiarity of the old sfII characters which makes the moneys i guess:shake:
The New Challenger cast would’ve sucked in SF3 anyway.
I thought it was neat. If you don’t like it complain to the writer about it, not me. The nc’s never fit really into st that well. IMO they would do quite well in sf3. Cammy would do very, very well with some ex’s ad chain canceling. Just take a looka at hyer in alpha/sf4. Hawk would be hugo-like but with a DP. The dive would have to be ex’d or not used… But more than likely What was left in his design was delegated to Hugo and Alex though.
Also bear in mind that they were prototype characters. For example, Fei Long. More than likely Capcom evolved his concept into Yang.
I thought of it as insightful into the design process. I’m not flaming anyone.
i cant finish reading this, looks like garbage and thisg uy clearly doesnt know wtf he’s talking about.
… So 3S would be a better game if it had a better story?
I hate the person who wrote this for being so goddamn sad that he actually wrote a “paper” on how bad the SF story is.
I also hate the person who posted this. He/she should have mentioned that this article is based on the story so that everyone here whose a fighting game fan, and not a weeaboo, could have quickly skipped.
Sorry, not trying to troll or be a dick. Just surprised this speculative crap got posted.
