Favorite Mechanics in a Fighting Game?

you can call it oki in tekken cause you actually get to move\attack on the ground. Calling it oki for 2d fighters is really absurd. There is no rolling in super turbo, only wake up reversal. There is only 1 option and that isn’t really oki lol.

The japanese call the wakeup game in every FG okizeme, regardless of how many options the defender has on wakeup.

The Japanese people also like french kissing girls after a bukkake scene.

Pretty much this. I love the Dead Angle Attacks and the suite of defensive options the game gives everyone. Slashbacks are great too (even though I have yet to be able to do one. :stuck_out_tongue: )

One thing I hate is throw teching in games where throws don’t really do a whole lot of damage. It almost seems pointless.

I loved Fighter Destiny 2 (which is the game you’re referring to, or its sequel anyway.) I liked that it wasn’t just about knocking out your opponent, but there were a lot of ways to win including ring outs and such. I’d love to see a more current game use the point system of that game to be honest. I used to set everything to 1 point for really important fights and itd be like having a 15 round match if it got real heated. It was a lot of fun, especially if you were playing a real heated match with someone, you could bet moves you’d unlocked for the character. You lose the match, you’d lose one of your moves until you won it back.

i was refering to the burst, not the air dashes
but i indeed heard a lot of people complain about the air dashes too, something about that everyone basically the same air dash with little to no variation or something like that, but im not sure how true is that

I hate negative penalty as well.

There’s no need to punish people for that style of gameplay, or force them to play in another way.

negative penalty doesnt force you to play rushdown, negative penalty is there as a risk, the ideology behind it is that everything has a risk, like being only on the defense would lead you to a guard crush for example or in the case of GG it increase the guard bar and put you on counter state
the fact that people can play run away and turtle without a problem on the both games that have it shows that the mechanic dont hurt the gameplay styles at all

It doesn’t need to be there. You don’t need to penalize someone being defensive by decreasing the tools they’d use to be offensive (if they chose to do so). The very fact that it’s there and present is a direct implication that they don’t want you to play a certain way and / or are forcing you to play a certain way. There is absolutely no viable reason to have it in there. The risk of playing that way is something you learn by way of playing the game, not by having the game slap your wrist and telling you to sit in the corner and think of what you ‘didn’t do’.

if it has or not to be on there is a matter of the designer of the game, just look how ridiculosly strong was nu on bb with her run away even with the negative penalty
since it doesnt affect the gameplay styles, then i dont have a problem with it
