Umm, actually a mastered Jam is one of the hardest characters you will ever deal with. She doesnt “suck”, rather, the fact that she is so difficult to use properly is what sucks. US seriously underrates her and sevral others who are better than you think.

No, she does suck. Even the Japanese think so. And she’s not exactly hard either. Just limited as hell. When’s the last time you saw Jam place high in any Japanese tourney? Just about never. It’s even funnier that you say USA underrates her when one of Cali’s best GG players uses her.

BOF, I am on east coast, they under rate her over here. And when I say hard to deal with I speak from personal expirience, and I guess that is bias of me. But personaly, a mastered Jam is a pain in the ass to play against- for me. She is one of the hardest people to rush down because she can run away from you effortlessly. Likewise, she can put you in block stun and IAD into combo/high low/throw/or another IAD… how is she limted? Only thing I can noticably see that she lacks is range. She is also one of the only people that can escape eddy’s unblockables (not for free though). She seems pretty well rounded… but she is difficult to use. Thats the on indescrepincy I see about her.
I don’t think she’s underrated at all. A mastered Jam may be a bitch to fight, but who do you think is a harder fight – a mastered Jam or a mastered Johnny? A mastered Zappa is really hard to deal with as well, that doesn’t suddenly make him a better character. Rather, props to the player himself for making him effective. The same applies to Jam.
Jam’s problem is that the things that are effective with her are very situational, and relatively easy to get around. I’d much rather deal with her rushdown than with having to worry about simply getting knocked down by Millia.
Eddie and Bridget are also hard to use, as is Venom (arguably, the hardest character in the game to use effectively) All of them are rated higher than Jam. Why?
I like Jam quite a bit, she’s a blast to play, and she can be played effectively. As a character though, she’s simply not as good as a large portion of the cast.
I totaly agree with every thing you said. I never said that mastering her made her better, only trying to point out to some one who said “Jam sucks” That if that is the way you feel, seriously, you need to see how badly a mastered Jam can take apart your defense. Jam is far from the relm of suckdome- just that there are characters that require less effort and precise execution in order to be as effective. ie millia or johnny.
I think she is very good at what she does, she is just very hard to be consistant with. One has to be extreamly dedicated/talented to master her, so Kudos. But she is far from garbage. To be quite blunt there is no one in this game who cant rape in the right hands.
And i meant this when I said it. We are more prone to take the easy way out and play johnny or eddy instead of mastering low tier and shaking things up.
And while you can say 1 top cali player uses Jam, how many others can you name? -listens t the pin drop-
Frankly, I wouldnt hesitate to say, (and dont take my head off here) that a good 50 percent of Jams effectiveness is from unfamiliarity.

Just saw Jam corner loop combos. the one where she needs to keep jump and airdash forward. That’s some hard shit. I still like her though
OK, I’ll ammend my statement to “Compared to most of the rest of the cast, she sucks” Replace sucks with “is less effective”, “isn’t as good”, “isn’t as useful” or other similiarly more kind terms if you like. Can you really tell me that’s not true?
Saying that any character in the right hands can rape doesn’t say anything about the character itself, which is what we’re talking about here.
Unfamiliarity is only going to take you so far. Anybody can lose to something they haven’t seen before. Once people adjust to it, what are you left with? Again, that says more about the players than the character itself.
It’s not really shaking thngs up though, because those characters aren’t winning (with a few notable exceptions)
I’m a firm believer in playing who you like. But that doesn’t keep me from seeing how a character’s flaws affect how they stack up against the rest of the cast.
She may have one eye and one arm, but she has one mean sword and door that will leave you battered and well - bruised.
