Assuming that things would go down that way, would the father’s grandstanding have still been worth it if he actually knew his child and could have taken actions that could have prevented her from doing the stupid shit? I just don’t see what is objective could have been. Nothing productive will come out of humiliation. The whole world can be on his side, and they apparently are, and he can say that it is not his fault if his daughter reacts to it in a self destructive manner, but at the end of the day, his objective should have been to make her a better person through his actions.
He is stroking his ego at her expense and everyone is so entertained by it that they are willing to ignore the fact that he did it at his daughter’s expense. This is no different than the asshole who beat his kid on youtube for acting like a thug. I have always wondered why so many people have kids when it is obvious that they will never value anyone else over themselves or their ways of thinking. “My parenting is awesome and if my kid decides to be a shithead, then it is not my fault!”

Outside of late in high school, I don’t think I ever used the internet for help with homework. Now I see my cousins in 6th grade using it for help smh.
Most of high school is easy mode. Outside of AP classes, anything you’d ever need the Internet for could be done with the class textbook, a dictionary, and a couple Zoobooks.
My daughter uses her laptop a lot for homework and school projects. She’s in 7th grade.
I never used the internet for actual work in high school, but i sure used it as an excuse to look at titties 
Research done on the internet is the original intention. Free knowledge. Probably why most kids today haven’t even read at least 10 books in their lives. Teachers are beginning to post homework online via edline. They are even beggining to use textbooks from online to save money. Also, most essays are required to be typed.

Man, something must be wrong with me. I respect parent that are assertive with their parenting because there are too many kids and young adults out there with a false sense of entitlement. But, at the same time I think the dude overreacted. Kids rebelling against their parents’ rule at that age is near universal. To me the post was harmless venting. Now, if she were posting sexually suggestive things on there or posts about crazy parties and drugs, I’d be more prone to accept his reaction.
For there to be so many parents in here, I find this thread depressing as shit. So much of what some people are saying, is taking such a spiteful tone…first and foremost this is his DAUGHTER. His off spring. And before all else, a good parent has the foresight and instinct to protect their children. That is, to look out for their well being. That what discipline is, essentially, to protect a child from themselves and prevent them from making mistakes that will hurt them in life. So THAT should have been his goal. Public humiliation, regardless of what any of you sadistic people want to think, is not a healthy thing for a child, and CERTAINLY NOT something a loving parent would think to do.
Was she super disrespectful? Yea. The post she put on FB was basically a long “Mom and dad you don’t understand me I hate you!” typical teenage bullshit. So? Part of being a parent is putting your ego aside for the good of the child. Even if it means taking one for the team. In this case, it’s being disrespected in your own house by a child that is using your electricity and talking shit about you on a computer you bought. Being a good parent is not letting your ego and pride get the best of you and actually handling things in a way that will teach the child a lesson but also not harm the child emotionally. Yea, he made his point. But at what cost? It’s not like she is just wholesale bitch. Her post complains of the shit that she DOES, never does her dad say she doesn’t DO her chores, apparently she always does. That’s better than a lot of kids, right?
I dunno, I have a hard time justifying doing this over any number of other things. But the joy some of you are having in what might be real trauma is…offputting. Bottom line, this isn’t so much parenting as it is revenge. Question: what kind of man takes revenge on his own daughter?
