Strangely enough, I think the first volume is one of the weakest in the series. Volume really kicks the series into high gear and it gets really great. First volume is essential for understanding the world though.
Thanks for the heads up. I find I’m either gripped by something initially, or I have to hit the second volume to start really enjoying it. Cerebus, would be a prime example.
I would not say that Volume 1 is weak, after all it introduces us to the entire premise of the story and some of the rules we can expect them to go by. I have been a fan since not long after he started the comic and it only gets better as it goes.
Depending on whether you like the character “jack” he has his own comic after a while in the main story that has threads within the main story. frankly I hate his comic so I read summaries to keep in the know.
Favorite Character has to be Bigsby though. That and Snow.
Yeah, I agree with that. The first volume of FAAAAAAAAAAABLES!!!1 is a great comic. It just feels weird in retrospect because it isn’t drawn by Bucky. And Jack of Fables just hasn’t captured the magic. The series just feels sorta unnecessary and cements my feeling that I haven’t read any good Willingham non-FAAAAAAAABLES!!!1 comics. The prose novel, Peter & Max, however, is a good read.
Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I finished the second volume yesterday. I’m still not 100% convinced it’s amazing, but I’m going to get a few more volumes tomorrow afternoon, just in case. I’ve also been thinking about finally getting the second Sandman volume.
