Anything where Mike Chaos is involved

real answer - anything that involves rivalry between players, camaraderie between players, respect earned by your peers through play, hype, and general enjoyment of the games we play and the competition.

anything that involves heel/face gimmicks, player dickriding, and general viewer/fan motivated bullshit can get the entire fuck out.

So godlike:

too many to name, and duc v sanford was already posted, so ill post a few

WHY IS HE STARTING SENTINEL

I BELIEVE IN YOU DESMOND I BELIEVE

FUCK I LOVE THE BEAUTIFUL GAME

that’s his thing

Damn, I remember this like it was yesterday. I’d like to add some context to the video (if I may).

Duc won evo2k5 and everyone was questioning the legitimacy of his win because he defeated Yipes in GF (& beat me in WF), and not Justin. So everyone was anticipating a match, hopefully in GF, between Justin & Duc. I remember Duc said he had a special team for Justin (I think it was a cable-centered team), that he was saving for Evo2k6, as he had not used it at any of the previous local tournaments in so cal. Anyways, as the evo brackets were released, it was evidenced that there was a “bracket of death.” This bracket was fiercer than the purple bracket at evo 2k2, which was also heavily stacked. The biggest names in this bracket were Rowtron, Duc & Sanford. This was the first evo that Sanford attended, and everyone was expecting a great performance from him (likely a top 2-3 finisher). (I did not personally think he would place top 8, though.) However, that type of performance was expected from a few other players, including rowtron. So, with all three in the same bracket, and only 2 players qualifying for semis from each bracket, one of them would be eliminated. Duc was lucky to avoid Row/Sanford until winners finals of the bracket. Row/Sanford played in winners semis, where the winner would play Duc. Sanford beat Row 2-1 in a very close and hype match. Then, Sanford moved on to play Duc in winners finals, where the winner qualified. Duc beat sanford in a very close match 2-1. Then, Sanford went to losers finals where he played Row again. Row beat Sanford 2-1 in a uber close match (came down to pixels), where he timed him out. Thus, Sanford’s first appearance at evo left him eliminated at the pools stage.

Afterward, Sanford was very upset and talking his usual shit, saying hes better than Row/Duc and would beat them in a long set. He was throwing a bitch-fit as he usually did after he lost. Watson asked Duc if he wanted to play Sanford, and initially he said no, but was later coerced (verbally) to do it, as he heard all the shit Sanford was talking. Watts organized the betting phase, where it really turned into a EC v. WC thing. (I reluctantly bet on Duc because he was so cal.)

Anyways, as the event is about to take place, they announced on the mic that EC get on one side (the left) and WC on the other (the right). For some odd reason, coaching was allowed, which I didn’t find particularly fair. As having Justin Wong coaching you is inherently unfair, as he always had great in-game advice and out-of-the-game advice that could calm players very well (I know from personal experience), and Sanford was notorious for lacking composure and chokin in the big moment. Any advantage Duc had was nullified by allowing Justin to coach. Moreover, Duc chose Soo as a coach, which didn’t really make sense either, as Soo was an MSP player and not the greatest motivator.

I think Duc probably would have won if there was no coaching. Also, I think he would have won if he had talked a bunch of shit to Sanford before the match and got into his head. Sanford was the most talented and mentally fragile player to compete at the highest levels; the best way to defeat him was outside of the game, because within the confines of the screen he was amazing and extremely difficult to beat.

My comment has nothing to do with the game itself if you haven’t noticed.

Anybody who missed out on Marvel from … 2002 to … 2010 missed out on a world of crazy and awesome. From DSP’s “money match” vs Team Florida to the various EC coaching shenanigans (I’m also looking at you Mixup @ECC) to crazy Eric to ultrasmooth X to cableguy’s twists and turns over the years to fugee and other’s mixologies…

ELABORATE WE ALL LOVE STORIES

dsp played marvel?

I remember when DSP was the self-tittled best ST player in the US after he won that PS1 ST tournament, but this tread isn’t about DSP.

MVC2 Story Thread, or something like that would be cool.

yeah. he actually wasnt horrible either, played MSCyke or something. he got 10-0ed by Mixup though lol. I dont know the backstory of it or anything though, thatd be pretty cool to read
