Seriously, I love Tek and VF both. Both are awesome series’. I started VF before I even knew what Tekken was. But I’m a Tekken player. I play T6BR whenever I can and I anxiously await it and VF5R’s console release(if it ever happens.)
didnt tekken 6 nerf the movement pretty tough?
Hey, I’m not trying to hate on Tekken or any game for that matter, I’m just explaining why I don’t like it.
There is an art to making games and it involves capitalizing on strengths and hiding weaknesses.
I think Tekken doesn’t do as much as most other games in this regard and is kinda lazy.
IE, if the game is going to be super clunky, then make the characters giant robots.
If the collision sucks, make bigger hit sparks and get rid of throws.
Take for instance DOA4.
A lot of people hate on DOA4 because it’s not deep, but what do you see when you look at the game for what it is:
- Rushed launch title with great graphics - the only and first fighting game at launch.
- You can play as a Halo Spartan years before Halo 3. Well don Halo stage, Halo warthog drives down a street with troops on it.
- You can be the dude from ninja gaiden and teleport all over
- Lots of Alt costumes and all your favorite characters from previous games, including the boss from DOA2
- Really simple for noobs and mash friendly. Chicks love this game and it involves halo, fighting, giant bouncing boobies, oh and no loli crap.
- Did I mention chicks love this game – even the ones who don’t play games – oh and it’s a fighting game that doesn’t look like ass.

Perhaps one of the best posts in this thread.
Yes, but BR made HUGE improvement in movement department. Back-dash is still relatively shorter compared to DR, but it’s better this way.
And I explained it pretty well that all of that can be applied to VF, didn’t I? You are not making any progress with such biased posts. If you don’t like the game, it’s fine. But don’t try to pass your one-sided opinions (which are solely based upon subjective observations) as FACTS.
I am not going to rip apart your post this time. It isn’t worth the effort.
Speaking as a chick, I’ve never met a single girl who likes DoA (myself included). In fact, most people I know don’t even know what DoA is. The only fighting games I’ve known girls to like are Tekken (hot guys, cool FMVs), Soul Calibur (cool costumes), and Smash (because it’s…uh…Smash).
Not really on topic, but I felt the need to clear that up. :wgrin:
As for the thread itself, it has been, for the most part, surprisingly civil.
It’s just down to people like what they like, regardless of what the gameplay is or not. Some people will lean VF, some people will lean Tekken, some will forgo the whole 3D fighter scene all together and stay 2D, its just what people are into. Nothing is officially better than the other.
Hell, people in my group, some perfer Xmen: Next Dimensions for the gamecube than other more popular fighters, its just what people happen to enjoy.
Now if only powerstone 2 has a competitive scene…

I have a hard time with all of this. First off, dedicated to your game or not, if you don’t have people to play with, what is the point. If you genuinely enjoy doing nothing but practicing in training mode and trying to beat Dural as fast as humanly possible, then ignore me :razzy: But if you are playing fighting games to play against people, you need a player base or there is no point. You said you have 3 people at your college to play with, that was all I had for Accent Core, so it counts in my book.
As for the second paragraph, it is not fair to say Namco dumbed down Tekken from 4 to 5. They simply went back to something more like T3/TTT than T4. I don’t know what you think was good in Tekken 4 that they should have kept, but slanted stages were horrible, position changes were a good idea, but really hurt the throw games mid stage, and almost everything else stayed in. Jab “priority” was nerfed a bit.
What is Tekken’s identity? It is THE hand-to-hand based 3d fighting game that is both accessible for new players and deep enough for experts to enjoy. I still think VF is the best fighting game out there, but it isn’t by much. The margin is much smaller than it used to be. Arc put a lot of care and attention to detail into GGXX and after T5, Namco has shown a lot of dedication to making Tekken not only full of bells and whistles for the casual crowd to enjoy, but also have the depth and sophistication for experts to dive into. That accessibility for beginners and having a full arcade release in north america is what puts Tekken over the top. VF5 is very good. I like the game. Hell, I chose to buy an Xbox 360 instead of a PS3 because at the time there was no T5:DR online and there was VF5 online and still no one plays the damn game. Japanese VF players are amazing to watch. But what good is it having this amazing game, like VF, when every character is like learning Crimson-fucking-Viper?

Funny, the group I hung out with in college, the only one who was a DoA player was a girl. She had DoA2 on PS2. No one else (not even her boyfriend) would play with her except me, because hell, I’ll try to play anything if there are people wanting to play.
Well thats usually what we should be doing, and usually I try to play most games before dismissing it completely (except guilty gear, the “fanbase” i run into is grating on my nerves sometimes) but even to GG, and Tekken, I’ll play a round or two, and if a new game is brought in, I’m sure I’ll give it a shot.
Remember my then gf was a big fan of Bloody Roar and I played a little bit of that. Unfortunately, I learned one of the chars really quick and beat the living crap out of her char, but i guess holding back wasn’t never really my strong point.
And I don’t think Power Stone 2 would make good competitive, Power Stone 1 is definately more tailored i think to a possible competitive scene (especially the psp ver which has the ps2 chars in it)
Man, that was cruel.
Did you lose a potential fighting-game fan because of that?
Thank you voice of experience.
I was just playing a random group of chicks in some doa4 tag-team last week.
Girls love the crap out of this game for some reason.
I don’t want to sound all too obvious but a girls shows up with 3 posts just to argue about tekken?
Are you really a girl or do you just play one on the internet (like I’m going to get an honest answer here haha)?
not really, she only plays games like tekken and SC cause she likes how sexy so and so character is (usually the slutty ones like Tira and Ana williams, glad im not with her anymore) but she wouldn’t be anything serious in them (only Bloody Roar which she boasted about which is why she got her beating. I was expecting a challenge!
)
only avid chick fighter i kno is a GG fighter. I don’t need to go further.
and oy ashen don’t go too hard on her. This isn’t exactly red carpet welcoming committee here, if the person gots a say, then let the person say it. We can judge genders some other time when it matters (which is next to never, since its the internet) Hell my first posts were in the tournament board to help organize stuff with Dark Geese, only after like 15 did i start actually participating in actual boards like these, and im still pretty fresh.
Holy shit, you just described Virtua Fighter!
Still trying to delude yourself into thinking VF is worth playing? Don’t worry, Tekken will still be around for you when your testicles finally descend and you can handle a real game, and not a poorly made tech demo disguised as a fighter. Til then, keep “fucking the fat chick” and trying to insult people who have real taste in games and don’t play garbage made by a company that failed during the console wars.
^ Seriously, stop it NOW!
Your first post was funny and quite true for the most part, but this is getting out of hands.
LOL wow you’re serious, huh? :looney:
No, I’m really a boy. There are absolutely no females on SRK.
I’m sure that’s what you want to hear, huh.
Just play whatever you like, if you don’t know if you’ll like it then try it.
Pretty much the end of discussion. Don’t be a dumbass and close yourself off from a game before playing it, and at least have some sort of curiosity to respect other people’s opinion.
I do know that I am aware of asking the equivalent of hell freezing over, but it seems that its not that far out of reach.
That logic doesn’t really work though. Sometimes you see something and you just know you’re not gonna be into it. I mean, you don’t need to experience being shot in the face to know if it would hurt like a motherfucker. And I’m pretty damn sure no one here is gonna try out sucking a dick to “see if they like it” out of fear of seeming closed minded.
Yea but those same parameters can’t really be applied to fighting games. I don’t think getting shot in the face is the equivalent to me playing DoA. I think its the whole don’t pass your opinion like truth. Or even if you are, don’t be obnoxious. about it.
True, although if you’ve ever seen anyone here post what they think of DOA, you’d think it really was comparable to being shot in the face.
