I said as a minigame, not something like a bigger game though. Only manly characters allowed. The grapplers are actually very different to be honest. Was more thinking about something like that:

Oni wtf?
The game itself needs to be interesting enough to do a grappler only game, but I forgot that there is MUGEN lol.

Bringing back the World Warriors was the best thing for 4. If they release an SF without Vega or Makoto, there’s a strong possibility I just wouldn’t even bother with it.

New characters are great. I think 4’s are pretty underwhelming over all, though, for a handful of reasons. Abel, for instance, is bland as fuck. He plays alright, and thinking about it I should find his gameplay exciting and appealing but I simply don’t because he fails to keep my interest with his appearance, voice, story or basically any other facet of his design. Was it all a dream? I wish.

Compare that to Viper. She’s exciting, effective and modern. Quick mixups, feints, multitudes of options keep pilots interested. Flashy play and good character design keep spectators. Some

Seth, Fuerte, Gouken, even Juri all have their own problems. Seth is, again, completely generic. People want him to be Urien, or to play more like a “Street Fighter”, or this or that and in the end he’s a tall naked pile that doesn’t satisfy anyone. Or nearly anyone, anyway.

Gouken too, somewhat, and he may alienate those who would like him because he seems so much like a shoto on the outside but doesn’t play like one.

Juri, from my own experiences, appeals mostly to more casual players. I’ve seen a few dozen people pick her up, but they tend to be people who don’t stick with the game. Contrasting that, a good friend of mine mains her. So I’m not saying she ONLY appeals to casual players, but I can’t answer why she’s not played more often. Not good enough? Don’t like zoning /fireball storing? Too hard?

But, every one of these characters, despite my personal gripes or distaste for them, has plenty of loyal fans. I think Rufus is a turd, but people still play him due to his competitive viability. I don’t care for Hakan, but I know more than a few fanatics.

Point being, even if some of us were underwhelmed by the new additions I think they’re doing relatively fine. Throwing away the old favorites would be awful.

Keep adding new characters, keep the adored ones, drop the hated ones or closet them to adjust and bring back later.

That seems the best way to go to me.

Everybody has their own personal taste concerning the new characters or even old characters. In my opinion, we should give the new characters time to settle in this game and let them mature(not their age), they still need a lot of adjustments sure, but I always felt that the new characters have brought in some fresh ideas. Like grapplers, who do well against fireball characters.

Concerning Hakan for example, he always reminded of someone, I always found funny, even if that dude never tried to be funny. He was known for big arms, just more evil.
Make Hakan top tier, he will have more mainers. Not a big fan of Viper, doesn´t look like a fighting game character for me, too much tool assisted.

This dude is like a running gag.

AN THAH MAYNE EVEYENT

what a shitty looking game, too

The problem is that the SF cast has gotten too big over the years, and you can’t include everyone. But people will be upset if their favorite doesn’t make it.
If we’re talking about the cast of characters for the next big SF game, they should probably include about 5/6 characters from every title (SF1/2/3/4/A) to get a nice roster that will please as many people as possible.

@prof in a game with vortexes, a character with bad wakeups and an unreliable reversal, is a real turn off to many. That’s why Juri doesn’t pop up all too often.

Ill smack the shit out of you if you say EX pinwheel. It trades with normals on a good day.

Claw doesn’t have a reversal outside of U2 either. Still sees play. Not fully discrediting what you said, though, I’m sure it’s no fun when you try to footsmack the shit out of someone and they os trade you into ultra.

Just kinda rehashing complaints I’ve heard really. But unreliable wake-up/reversal move is an issue if you get knocked down. When you stand up you having nothing to tell the other guy to step the fuck off. Sure you have the counter teleport move kasatushi, but they actually have to hit you. After the first time they will bait and grab if they’re smart.

I would bring in some more of the old characters like Guile, Sagat, Dhalsim and Cammy.
Then like 3 of the sf4 characters like Juri,Viper, and Abel

We’d have some old then not so new and new characters. Then just balance updates, and costumes.

Is Gen supposed to be dead in 3rd strike ?

I personally like all the new characters from SF4. They all add something to the large street fighter character list.
They appeal to different type of people, and that’s what capcom wanted. They spend quite a lot of money into R&D when making new characters.

At least Juri and Vega both have amazing backdash and decent mobility. Look at Gouken.

And I -still- hate the delay wake up. It might be good in theory, but this is way too many change to a game update. They might as well call it a new game with this many changes to core mechanic.

Wait, hakan is black? does some research no, he’s a turk, a red alien turk.

Also in doing research I found out the whole karate clown thing, what if the 5th character is karate clown?

I personally was very disappointed that out of 39 characters there were only 9 fresh faces. Look at the percentages…that means less than 1/4 were new characters, meaning returning characters were the vast majority. We are getting 5 new characters in Ultra…however 4 are returning (Poison is in SFxT), and one is rumored to be a doll. Even if characters are going to return I feel that there should be at least 50% new characters and much preferrably something closer to 75%.

My opinion on the ‘new’ characters of SF4.

Abel: I actually like this design. A mobile grappler, the rolls give him a unique feel. His look is based on MMA legend Fedor, and he does look a lot like him.

CViper: AWESOME design. She is so flashy, with her air burn kicks, earthquake pounds, electric punches. Such a sleek look, and nice to have a little bit of an older female in the game.

Elf: This design is for the kids, and the kids love him. I understand some might find him annoying but he represents the mexican wrestler very well with his high flying moves. He is SF4’s Blanka…wild and meant to appeal to those 12 and under.

Gouken: People have wanted to play as him since SF2. Okay design, should have kept demon palm instead of having the infinitely inferior air parry. Also not having an air fireball to compliment his demon flips really hurts. Parry counter attacks are ripped straight from Karin (except he has high, mid, and low rather than high and low). The steroid santa claus is not how I pictured aesthetically Gouken to look.

Hakan: Aesthetically I loath his design more than any besides perhaps Rufus. However gameplay wise he is probably adds the most out of the new characters. The oil power up mechanic is so different from anything else in the game. Capcom did a good job here, gameplay wise.

Juri: FAVORITE design. While she didn’t fit my playstyle, objectively I must say this is Capcom’s best of the new designs. Representing Korea for the first time, a popular martial art getting its street fighter debut (Tai kwon do), a female being a true villain (not a brainwashed doll like Juni/Juli), plus the unique mechanic of storing multiple projectiles makes her a winner.

Oni: Well unfortunately they used Akuma’s model and stretched it, so it is aesthetically the least original of the new characters. However someone that looks like a more badass powered up version of Akuma is pretty cool. He cops a bit too many normals from existing shotos, and his most unique element, the air dashes, are implemented poorly. However I main him, definitely the most fun of the shotos IMO.

Rufus: I HATE THIS DESIGN. I HATE THIS CHARACTER, this fat slob who is a dumbass as well. I hate his stupid dive kicks and stupid “Hee, Hee, wee wee, I have to go Pee!” At least he is original I guess.

Seth: You all know my feelings on this character, he is up with Twelve as worst street fighter design in the series.

We might hate Rufus, but him being there, a fat guy in a fighting game, is pretty new. Especially a fat guy that isn’t a slow ass grappler.
I doubt he will come back in SF5 tho, he’s not very popular as a character.

Just wanted to mention that Oni’s model is actually Goukens.

EDIT: Mobile SRK is fucking retarded. This was supposed to be a picture of bob from tekken

Seth is really fun to play but there’s no denying from an aesthetic standpoint he’s incredibly lazy.
They really should have made his default outfit him with his business suit on, he actually looks really damn cool with that on but nope instead they went for the generic muscular, naked grey dude going “HEY GUYS LOOK AT THIS SHIT I GOT A SPINNING YIN YANG BALL IN MY STOMACH AND NO JUNK!!!”

Yeah Seth is the worst character design in fighting game history. He’s basically just a Tall 3D model grey monster… If him and Rufus never came back to SF, no one would care…

Sorry but no matter how you twist it, that hands down goes to the SF EX Cycloids. Even Twelve is better as a design then them.
