called it
When did i drop? I don’t update yet cause as far as i know appart from the zangief matchup post and the blanka ball punish most posts here are too general and not character specific.
Well let’s get to it then, but instead of going through each character individually let’s just jump to the ones everyone is having trouble with. We’ve got some geif knowledge, who is next?
IMO, this thread needs to be focused and moderated. In other words, everyone focus on a few matchups at a time so that they can be discussed and experimented on.
I am in training practicing cr.mp cr.mp on Dictator Bison, sometimes the second cr.mp just does not connect. You can see her fist hitting where Bison’s thigh is but no hit registers. Is this a thing with other characters?
Having one large matchup thread is bad, but I think having 44 matchup threads is also bad.
dividing it up into smaller thread with 5 or so characters will probably accomplish more especially if the OP isn’t really interested in updating.
i dont care
im going to do my homework all by myself
if ppl want to discuss anything hit me with pms
So does anyone else think Hugo is free? Target combo, hands, sting… I haven’t had a hard time at all.
The big problem here is: people post the right things on the wrong threads.
Matchups being discussed on the General thread, mixups on the combo thread…yada yada.
If people have a generic question “hey how does X works?” goes to general, “I have a combo to share” goes to the combo thread, “WoW! Look at this mixup!” goes into the mixup thread, “I was thinking if X works against Y character” goes to the matchup thread. It’s that simple, yet all the main threads are full with clutter and information that should belong on the specific thread!
People go to a specific thread looking for specific information, even if the information is mixed up, like matchups for example, it’s okay IF it’s related to the thread. However like the threads are organized now…they are a damn mess! That is the reason why people are posting the information under the incorrect thread! Oh! lets not forget that OPs create a thread, then it’s never updated cause they aren’t regular. You have a life, dear OP, we all do, but if you dont have intentions to update on a regular basis the thread you create, then don’t create it! Simple and you’ll let regular users, like Malvadisco, Noosetester or Veserius, to create them and update them. This will only lead people to find stuff, or explore stuff and simply won’t share them cause they’ll get lost in the middle of ‘offtopic’ posts.
Another note, this template has too much information to be filled imho. I’ll strike what should be removed and underline changes.
Optimal Combos: - theres a thread with Combos and Specific Character combos
**Crumple/Canon Strike: **- see above
Confirm: - see above
**
Meterless specific punish:** - no reason to detail meterless only, there are specific punishes vs certain character move, e.g Blanka hori ball
Setups:
Midscreen setups: - already discussed under “Setups”
Safe jumps: - there’s a specific thread for this
Corner setups: - see above
OS notes:
Noteable unsafe normals/specials: - already adressed on Specific Punishes
Extra random Generic notes: - this could be filled with personal point of view on the match or a useful tip
In that regard I agree on a new matchup thread or a revision on the information fill on the template.
I think if a Decapre beginner wants to start playing her, he will not want to go in 100 threads to get a general sight of what he can do but whatever, if you think it’s the best way then do these topics.
I did not say it was necessary to create tons of threads, that was/is a bad idea. I’m saying that the template could be edited and thats needed for people to start posting under the correct thread. Of course the OP would need to check frequently if there was any updated worth to put it under the X or Y character.
This is starting to get annoying, I’m not implying the creation of multiple threads, thats not even mentioned on my post. What I would like is: some changes to make the template more easier to fill up, cause theres redundency of information and for people to start paying attention to what they post is under the correct thread. Thats it.
I think the thing that people are getting more annoyed at is the fact that at the moment said person who is willing to learn will check the OP and realise there is no information there at all… Not even copy-pasta of the amazing Zangief analysis from notGeckoRoman.
From what I can gather - AkaratsChampion thought he/she could help out with the lack of information and took the inititive. Granted he/she went the wrong way about it but you could tell the thought was at least productive and most likely born out of frustration of the OP not being updated and the fact that you have only posted 3-4 times in this topic if you don’t count the making of the OP.
(I’m sorry I’m not actually adding to the matchup anaylsis. I’m awful and trying to learn so my matchup opinions mean nothing. I do however frequent this thread a lot and would love to see it grow, hence the above stuffs)
Why don’t we try picking a character to focus on, getting some cumulative info together, discussing and altering based upon our experiences and observations, and then having the OP updated with that block of info?
If no one has any objections I’ve got a few things for the Dictator matchup so that could be a good place to start it.
ia ex drill beats or trades very favorably with everything bison has. plenty of time to uncharge him off of a backthrow with mp break. haven’t found anything particularly interesting in regards to how their moves interact. the u/f hands safejump works with every version except ex
malvadisco has a video with very thorough aa testing against bison

If Dictator gets too comfortable in his scissors pressure, you can use the hit invulnerable stinger (which I believe is :lp:) to cleanly beat scissors. But, don’t rely on this as you’ll start getting bopped by pokes where the Dictator would usually have thrown scissors.
Also ex stinger beats ex psycho crusher, which most Dictator players won’t expect as that particular move is very difficult to beat.
Neutral jump :hk: can slap headstomp and devil’s reverse pretty cleanly.
But the main thing to know in this matchup is Dictator has great walkspeed, great pokes, and a killer throw.
Be careful when poking as most of your standing pokes trade with s.:mk: and trade unfavorably with or lose to s.:hk:. A good tool for the poke war is cr.:hp: as it can sneak under Dictator’s standing pokes and beat out a lot of his crouching pokes.
Try to just tech throws instead of crouch tech, as a good Dictator can mix up and time their grab setups so that crouch tech straight looses. Watch out for dash forward throw, especially after short strings that you blocked. Watch out for j.:hp: > walk forward throw, as it straight beats crouch tech if timed right.
I’d say U2 is the right ultra for this matchup just because of how easily Dictator escapes U1. He can teleport past it, ex scissor through it, and otherwise work around it with his good walk speed if you throw it raw.
u2 punishes ex psycho on block, you just can’t reversal it, have to delay it a bit.
think the matchup isn’t great though until better oki is developed. Bad bison is easy, but top level bison feels really tough.
So as a general grappler player switching to Decapre from what I’ve picked up here’s my own thoughts on Decapre Hugo so far. I’ll post about T.Hawk and Gief once I’ve had a chance to play a few more Hawks since Hawk changed a LOT. Bare in mind this is still early days and just my own thoughts, I’d love to hear anything else other players have came up with for this MU
Hugo - Hugo’s grab is fast but he doesn’t have the range threat Zangief has. The battle will just be a poking and footsie based one using normals like stHK, stHP, crMK and so on to keep him back. You really have little to no reason to ever teleport towards him unless you have meter to make it safe since almost all your specials will get grab punished. Hugo has some really long reaching normals so can trade with you, this is where stHK is useful for avoiding things like his stMP slap as you’re often low enough to avoid it whilst hitting Hugo. Don’t be too afraid to jump, Decapre’s air options are far better than Hugo’s so don’t be too intimidated by the fact he has Backbreaker but at the same time don’t just jump willy nilly, Hugo has really really slow walk speed so you’ll have little issues simply backing up from his effective range rather than using jump back. If Hugo tries to pressure using crLK > LP Clap use your EX stinger to land it using the invul. Psycho stream is a scary thing for Hugo due to it’s slow speed and his massive size. If you use it and he’s trying to back up just stay still, don’t walk forward and give him more space to back up, I’ve personally been using feint teleports to try scare him into jumping or going for a backbreaker, even if he tries to jump or whiff backbreaker over it you can often anti air or use sharpie combos as he lands to push him back into it. If he tries to lariat through it he’ll eat a crapton of damage so punish with a stinger to bust the armor AFTER he’s absorbed all the hits so that he takes full unscaled damage once the stinger lands.
Do you mean U2 punishes it if they use it to pass through you? and if so, how do you hold your charge? Or do you mean when they nudge you with the front of it right as it’s ending, in which case, are you sure? It seems to end awfully quickly.
He means when it passes through you, you can auto correct charge moves vs psycho crusher the same way you would against crossups. Boxer U1 punishes pass-through Psycho crusher for full hits, similar for Decapre U2, you just have to be mindful of when Dictator touches the ground.
Is easier than landing chun u1
