This reminds me of that pyrolee vs justin wong hype that was spectator instigated a few weeks after evo2k4.
The logistics aren’t what’s important at this point. We know Ryan mains Chun, I don’t see why he would NOT use her. I mean, personally I have many reasons for him not to use her, namely because she is a top tier piece of shit whore that is leagues above the rest of the cast which in turn really only shows how much time you’ve put into the game and not how far you’ve really come and Artayes is going to be picking Necro. The match is already in Ryan’s favor considering Ryan’s Chun doesn’t have to actually move due to the slow nature of Necro’s attacks when playing offline and Necro isn’t exactly known for his strong presence. Seriously, this match isn’t even going to be decided by the individual players’ skill because this is one of those 7-3’s wtf akuma hax was talking about. Online Chun is good, sure, especially if you’ve got enough experience to anticipate well, but offline Chun with 7 years on your back, a daily astro city training regiment, time in the Japanese Hyperbolic Time Chamber AND the highest level comp available in the states on a regular basis (cue denjinicity) is just a little more than simply holding down+back until the problem goes away. I went online to talk Artayes out of it simply because I don’t know too many players that would be willing to put up 500 bucks (not including travelling expenses) on a Chun vs Necro match but when we started playing something took over and I couldn’t tell him anything. I guess I didn’t want to disrespect him in front of his friends and I also didn’t believe he’d take my word on the whole matter. That’s still a lot of money, though.
Shit man, if I go to Vegas, I would play you for like a 100 bucks. Not saying you didn’t prove that you know the game, but I didn’t so much see an understanding of the game the way Japanese play and years at FFA/Denjin could’ve taught a person. I understand how easy it could be to say something like that speaking out from within but you really just don’t know. We don’t just have the denjin/ffa heads making us better, dude! They just helped us with 3s but in regards to the super - Street Fighter - we’ve had THE BEST from EVERY GAME playing with us from day one. Watts, Valle, Sneddon (GhettoDon), MutantXP, HungBee, EdMa, etc. Well, I had them from day one. The list goes on, bro. We’ve had every flavor in this game. So many flavors in fact, that I stopped trying to look for new shit because cool new shit would just happen on the regular. You aren’t going to be fighting Ryan, dude, just like if you and I were to play (offline) you wouldn’t be fighting me, as much as I’d like for that to be the case, but you are going to be fighting the collective elite. I distinctly remember playing you that one night with ghostaga and igloo and losing the first round because I was a little impetuous, which is very much like me, ask anyone. But then I said okay, so I have to fight artayes, the lag, and the urge to go fucking nuts on him because the lag won’t let me play. Then I had to shake off the latter to avoid a bad case of circular logic so I decided to just walk around your movements. I found the spots and I stayed safe but whenever I would try to parry your dive kicks or your overhead chops I’d eat a combo or a hit. Those were the only areas where I felt like you had one on me. I remember being so close to your game, in fact, that you would whiff your moves an inch from my face. Offline, I counter poke/uppercut shit like that and if you try to do it with anything other than jump back > down+mp you are going to eat a super as well. Then, there goes your footing. You don’t think Ryan can do it if I can do it? I’ll be the first to admit Ryan’s Chun can out footsie me any day and I feel like I out footsied you that night, online no less.
I don’t think I won more than a single match that night vs you, ghostaga or igloo but don’t let your desire for victory cloud your judgement and don’t let that be a testament of our skill. If anything, take into consideration the fact that I’ve only been playing online for a few months. I basically spent months, re-learning MY play for offline and offsetting it by 3, then 4, then 5, then 6 frames. Which also meant, I couldn’t spend more time learning how the rest of the world plays the game. I really feel that’s saying something.
Be bold, not brave.
Do you think staring at the back of a dollar bill and having some epiphany about the eye on the back is going grant you the knowledge of the great mystics and put you above the illuminati? Fuck. No. 3s was based around the play of our predecessors and it’s those same priors that let us, west coasters, stand on their shoulders. Right now, it’s not even me that’s speaking to you, it’s mighty fucking Mike Watson. That mother fucker is controlling me from the god realm right now.
At this point, I feel like this was a collective effort to goad him into the poor house simply because he’s confident in his abilities and wouldn’t let a bunch of no faces tell him he’s not good at the game he loves. Fuck that, man, that’s why I wrote this.
But just the same I have to write a counter-argument so you guys can see that I’ve thought about this a little more than the time it took to write this post.
I went to Ryan’s house a few weeks ago and we played some good casuals. I had a lot of rust to brush off but I think that’s just my body and not so much my mind as I was able to tech grabs pretty well most of the night. I was even teching kara-grabs. That is my greatest weakness, btw, teching grabs. Let alone teching kara-grabs. I saw the skill because I came across situations that I wasn’t too familiar with or didn’t remember then (first time offline in a long time). I thought maybe I lost track of one of the steps in there or maybe this was a completely new set up that just looked familiar because of the moves being put to use and it was just an error in sequence approximation on my part. Maybe I was being hasty again given Ryan’s new celebrity but whatever it was, Ryan pinned me for a 3 count. The point here isn’t that he beat me one time with Chun when I was trying, it was that I didn’t know what went wrong. That hasn’t happened to me in years and THAT was indication enough of the Japanese Chun. It was no where near as bad as it was when I played Nuki, (that mother fucker baited a high parry with a standing jab, I parried and then he followed with crouching jab into super. I don’t even know how I managed to walk up that close to him but it happened. Once again, the Japanese Chun) but I know for a fact it was simply because I didn’t walk far enough into the cave of wonders this time.
tl;dr Save money. Necro slow, Japanese Chun SUPER STRONG, pseudo-Japanese Chun STRONG.
