Wait, even 3SOE is faster than arcade? I’m perplexed. Welp… Time to save up $800 to build a cabinet and buy a CPU board. The red parry and chain input I guess comes from the speed of the emulation.
yeah from what I’ve gathered from discussions here
PS2 > FBA > OE > Arcade
in terms of speed
also any emulator is gonna have some noticeable input lag if it’s running on any modern OS, which is probably the reason no one runs any kind of FG tournament on computer. varies from OS to OS of course. XP and some variations of Linux aren’t nearly as bad as Windows 7 with all that compositing nonsense.
people should just play whatever they have available and what appeals to them the most. if you don’t have access to a real cab you have to choose from several non-perfect variations. if you wanna play online GGPO seems like the best bet. I wouldn’t choose FBA over OE for offline play personally, though.
After going from 3SOE to GGPO I found myself saying “whoa! slow down!”, this might be directed to how aggressive the players are or the game speed, either way something seemed off.
Yo Metric is like the skeleton who didn’t cross the street. He has no guts.
LOL. I think that’s your first and last good post.
I’d say it’s more likely cause you can’t seriously run an official tournament with some ROM hack/emulation.
Right but they don’t run official PC games in tournaments either AFAIK. SSF4AE on computer, for example.
oe doesnt feel that much faster than arcade to me…
I think it is… like on american arcade I can do j mk mp hp with ken 100% of the time but when I use the same timing on OE/FBA it doesnt come out I’m not quick enough
That’s a different discussion IMO.
What i meant is 3S has never been released on PC. A (big) tourney running FBA 3S is like wanting to be sued for piracy or whatever…
If Capcom wanted to sue for piracy they’ve had how many opportunities now? They’ve had years to send a cease and desist to Damdai and Ponder but have yet to do so. I think a small tourney hosting 3S through is pretty safe dude.
That’s why i wrote ‘big’…
GGPO/Supercade popularity has never been huge and cannot even be compared to OE on PSN.
Anyway, i see a big difference between a soft allowing to play online for free (and without having to see any ads) and a tourney involving money where you’re gonna use a pirate version of the game.
yeah i actually agree with that. some things feel a bit harder to do (i’m still scratching my head at that basic makoto trial) but otherwise i don’t feel that the overall game speed is noticeably faster. both arcade and oe are significantly slower than ps2, that much is certain, but i wouldn’t mind seeing a synchronization test or something conclusive like that between arcade and oe. haven’t played an emulated version in ages so no comment on that.
Play them back to back it is quite noticeable, although not nearly as fast as ps2/xbox. It is most noticeable on things you do off of muscle memory/feel and not things you visually try to to time. (eg makoto’s jab short chain)
If I have been playing oe exclusively for an extended period of time it can take me alittle while to adjust back to arcade speed to play at 100%.
I tried matching MAME and OE once, but I could’ve not been certain of the results because I’m not sure does my MAME skip frames or something, I have a pretty shitty comp after all.
In the last 2 years there was a lot of 3s activity/tournaments. FFA, Denjin, ran a lot within this time frame. Super and Japan Arcade STILL HOLD 3s stuff. The people and myself saw you once. I see you’re quick to challenge people that havent even had the exposure of socal 3s. Also way to show us how much you don’t care by writing an essay.
we run tournaments, but the the majority of people are too scared to play because they feel they will lose automatically to pyrolee or 5star so why play… that is how you can tell peoples confidence levels are in their game and that 5 dollars is alot of money. i hear mcd’s are hiring… 8.75 an hour…
I’ve only been in California this past year. Super Arcade is almost 2 hours away, I work and go to school. I’m at family randomly in between classes, there’s rarely anybody good to play outside of Rockefella so I’m usually in the parking lot with friends, or I drive home. You really think I’m challenging people because they haven’t been to socal? LOL yo, it’s not 2004 anymore. I enjoy playing third strike, I play whenever I get the chance, online is just more convenient because I have allot going on. I want to make it out to Japan tourney but the only ideal situation is if my class is doing presentations. Oh, and when I was living in Cali, I made it to every big event held at Denjin, when I moved I flew out from WA to Sunroute. Say what you want but I’m down for 3s. It’s just not always priority.
People don’t play 3s because it’s old. They’d rather invest their time into a game that has bigger tournament pots, or just a bigger scene in general. I think that’s why Japan Danisen works really well. It encourages new players to keep improving and coming back to rank up, rather than paying 5 dollars and losing 0-2 and being forced to just stand and watch till the tournament is over.
and thats the problem with the fgc today… all bout the money… and yes i know you came down from WA to play not doubting you… it was just a statement not pointed directly at you. and yes we held danisan battles too and it was free.
