Maybe we should just mail the japanese our money, so they won’t even have to waste money traveling and playing against us. It seems that the majority of capcom players in the USA could careless about any other game “besides” MvC2. Sad, very, very sad IMO.:bluu: :bluu: If the majority of the USA would put effort into anything besides MvC2 we could be better as a nation to fight off the japanese invasion every year at EVO. If we don’t improve then EVO should change for future tournaments. Just rename it (GJYM2k4)“Give Japan your money2k4” because that title will represent what the tournament will be about. Oh yea, then there is MvC2. AKA “The Justin Wong College Fund” tournament.

Fact of the matter is that American players are getting better and better. As a result, more japanese are coming next year, and there is talk of the japanese coming this winter.
The level of competition has risen in America, and this is attractive for the japanese. If we keep raising the level of competition, we will be able to win against the japanese in all games.

Okay, Im finally here to post something on EVO. But I must warn u, THIS MAY BE A LONG POST, and yeah, its mostly Marvel.
First, I’d like to get a few things straight, it wasn’t Pyrolee that got taken to the hospital via ambulancce, IT WAS SHADYK!!! Shady had waaaaaayy to much to drink. He drank HALF A BOTTLE OF VODKA with another guy. Matter a fact, he had to be helped outside (to throw up) while the EC. Vs. WC. was going on.
Second, Justin informed me that Sanford was caught hopping a train the day of EVO. The thing is, he got caught cause he didn’t pay, BUT HE HAD $30 IN HIS POCKET. Train ride only costs like $2!!! Sanford, Sanford… shakes head
There was some arm wrestling matches going on, and some guy from Texas or Arizona had like 6 staight wins, including beating me. White guy didn’t look like much, but he was beasting.
JaHa was about get in a fight with this guy who was talking too much shit online, but couldn’t back it up IRL. The guy didn’t want to fight at all, and JaHa put him in his place. Ja was ready to break him off. Apparenlt, Ja was hollarin at this guys girl, and dude was just defendin his lady, but then started to talk shit. Me, RoninChaosand Baltmiore Chun were all there.
There was also another fight that almost happend. Eddy Pistons, a very good Tekken player, was bad mouthin someone, for some reason, but I couldn’t tell who he was talkin to and what about. He was just hella pissed, and talkin loud, seemed like a misunderstanding of what he was talking about to someone, then another guy got involved. Again, Ronin Chaos, and Balitmore Chun and I were there, but they might be able to tell a more accurate story of what happend.
Now, Lets get on with EVO. ShinBlanka, U know me, and u know my favorite game in the world is MvC2, so I gotta reply to something u posted a few pages back. U said something like EC vs. WC was nothing more than a casual play exhibition with tournament like rules, something like that. Im here to tell u that EC vs. WC was one of the best events that occured at EVO. Sure, no money involved, but it was about more than money. It was about bragging rights. It was about, “See I told u so, WC is better than EC” It was about the whole drama of it all of what would happen if our best 5 played your best 5. It was about time.

Ricki vs. Kuan. Every person had a little theme song intro when their name was called. Ricki’s was UPTOWN GIRL by Billy Joel :lol: Kuan, can’t remember. Right away, crowd is booing Ricki Ortiz. Much cheers for Kuan. Match begins. Ricki plays runaway storm, then attacks Kuan and gets a hail storm off for good damage. Kuan attacks but Ricki blocks and counters, and Storm runs away. Kuan can’t catch Ricki. The crowd boo’s the hell out of Ricki, and u can hear random commments like “get that bitch off the machine”, “fight like a man, u bitch” and others ensue. Ricki finally comes down and kills Kuan. Crowd full of boo’s for Ricki’s play.
Wigfal vs. Ghengis:
Macth is going, Josh missing oppurunites, Ghengis playing solid, Josh does nice combo for good damage, then snaps in Commando…OMG!..
JOSH MISSES GURAD BREAK, GHENGIS FIGHTING OFF MAGNUS GHENSIS COMBOS, THEN CORRIDOR INTO SUPER, TAKES OUT WIGFAL’S MAG…WITH COMMANDO! DOES NOT SWITCH OUT!! GHENGIS FIGHTING OFF WIGFAL’S ATTACKS, COMBO’S AND KILLS WIGFAL’S SECOND CHARACTER…WITH COMMANDO!! STILL DOESN’T SWITCH. GHENGIS combos into super, AND TAKES OUT JOSH’S FINAL CHARACTER…WITH COMMANDO! UNBELIEVABLE SHIT!! Crowd goes nuts! Keep Commando in, God Damn!
The way it was setup was a memeber of EC stayed on the machine and played all 5 members of WC, one after another, one match. Josh missed all kinds of stuff and proabably should have won at least 2 matches. Dissapointment.
Mixup vs. Soo:
Can’t remember much of the match, I think a lot of people were waiting for this match, but Mixup used Tron instead of Cyc. for assist. I was convinced Mixup was better than Soo, but Soo played solidly and Mixup missed some things, and was very defensive. I’ve never seen Mixup so defensive before, to me he’s mr. offense. But against higher comp, he’s hessitent. Soo blocking a lot of Mixup’s attacks. Mixup can’t get in. Soo plays a very good game, and beats Mix.
Other note, Xecutioner, played good early but missed many of his usual setups and combos. A lot of missed oppurtunities, similar to Josh, and X lost 3 out of 5. He beat Kuan and Mag.
West Coast momentum is very high. They’ve beaten Three fifths, of East Coast rather easily, each match better than the previous, and very crowd pleasing moments.
Soo vs. JWong: The Showstopper!
Match starts off, Justin has Mag, Cable Sent. Soo is MSP of course. Both Mags are in doing super jump, dash down fierces, building up meter. Justin combos Soo, but Soo blocks reset attempt. Both Mags are fighting, then…Soo lands a hit and Psylock assist…BOOM…JUSTINS MAG GETS INFINITED, RESET, COMBO, COMBO, RESET, MAG DIES!! CROWD GOES NUTS…ENTER SENTINEL, GUARD BORKEN, SOO STARTS INFINTE!! MESSES UP!!! TWO LOW SHORTS, AND PSYLOCK ASSIST, RESTES TO MAKE IT LOOK NATURAL!!! CROWD GOES NUTS!!! SENTINEL BEING COMBO’ED TO DEATH, RESET!! CROWD GOES FUCKING NUTS!!! SENTINEL DEAD! ENTER CABLE, GUARD BROKEN, SOO MESSES UP!! JUMP, DASH DOWN LIGHT KICK, DUCKING LIGHT KICK, LIGHT KICK, PSYLOCK, START THE INFINITE! CROWD IS STILL FUCKING NUTS, EVERY TIME SOO HITS JUSTIN WITH A RESET, THEY’VE NEVER SEEN HIM GET BEATSED LIKE THIS BEFORE. INFINITE TO THE CORNER, SOO MESSES UP!!! OTHERS WITH THEIR CAMCORDERS, REPLAYING THE MATCH OVER AND OVER. It was ubelievable. Even if U don’t like Marvel, u would have apprecieated what had happened if u were there. Soo, holds one fist in the air, after his victory. Just like he did with the 4 previous victories. The Crowd is cheering and applauding like crazy for Soo. Cheering is heard to the next match. nuff said…That moment alone is worth bying the DVD.
I also caught a glimpse of come pretty darn good CvS2 matches, but someone already reported on that, so no need to go there…:whew! Even though Japan won it again, US is improving all the time. 3rd Strike as well.
Shin, I really wish u coulda came, but I know things aren’t exactly perfect right now, so I wish and hope nothin but the best for ya, and maybe I’ll come to ATL and visit sometime. Okay, now Im done.

Er, I think both PyroLee and ShadyK made the hospital trip. I was at CalPoly, read that PyroLee had had health problems, then went home that night and Shady was being carted away then. No worries either way - Shady was fine, just had a little much to drink.

Ah, Midwest reppin’…showin’ up to lose at Marvel quicker than me in a SC2 tournament. Amazing. I gotta tell ya, it’s refreshing to know that we share the same problem that the rest of the world does - none of us want to beat Justin Wong. Sure, we may think it would be cool to beat him, but none of us are out there, practicing our asses off trying to get good at the shit we know will work on him, playing with characters that AREN’T in the God Tier, and any other lame-ass excuse you can think of. You know what it takes to dethrone him, yet you want to do it on YOUR terms? Look, I like Iron Man and Blackheart and Dhalsim and Spiral and Strider and so on, but if you think Wong is losing to them then you’re nuts. If your name doesn’t begin with Sto, Cab, Sent, or Mags, then you’re not going to win. Pack your bags and go home, or save yourself the flight and not bother coming. I know I did. Hey, I’m all for showing up and having fun, but I don’t want to spend that much money to get owned in a bunch of video games by people who travelled further (Japan) just to take my money. I like fun, but that is too expensive…and isn’t even that much fun.
I think MvC2 would be a lot more entertaining for the laymen to watch if Wong didn’t enter. I mean…with him in the contest, people already know who’s going to win. Thus, if you take him out of the picture, people are going to start having fun arguments over who will end up taking the gold. “Rowtron will own your ass” says Seattle. “No man Mixup is the shiznit!” says some random NYC scrub. Bottom line, though, is that it becomes a little more interesting. Problem with this line of thought, though, is that Wong IS going to show up and play. The dude is undefeatable, so why the hell would you turn down 3K in free cash? So as long as Wong is there, the best anyone can hope for is 2nd prize. That is, unless someone wants to get off of their scrubby ass, start playing everyone they can, and building up the skill - and a rep - good enough to take the kid down.
…but let someone else do it, not me. I like playin’ games other than MvC2, so I’m too split between games to even compete at Marvel without lookin’ like a total fool. So I’m only there for fun…but for everyone else, you have no excuse.
The real problem is that people aren’t practicing the RIGHT things.
Blocking and patience, also paying attention to people’s patterns.
It’s difficult to re-write the way you play marvel when the same old shit still works. If i practiced what i preach i would have made it much further at evo.
Give up those resets and go back to the basics, or, hold onto your ONE game over some top player lol
