The primary commentators for EVO APAC were:
bbbenson (both days)
eks (eKiN) (both days)
hebretto (Saturday Last Chance Qualifiers)
If you have a clip of the person you were interested in, I can tell you who it was. iirc the majority of the commentary from the videos that were up on YouTube are either by bbbenson (American/Canadian accent) or eks
Unfortunately I don’t think bbbenson nor eks will be attending, save winning the lottery this weekend haha.
I didn’t want to say anything until the list was announced, but now that it is posted, I just want to say what a humbling honor it is to be invited to commentate on EVO. Because of my school schedule I’m flying in on Friday night, so I won’t even get to play in the tournament, but when Keits asked me if I would commentate, I knew I had to do it.
I’m really excited to be able to help out, and like I said, this is a huge honor for someone like me who can’t make it out to play sessions at people’s houses. I’m really looking forward to working with the Level|Up guys again, and I hope you guys enjoy listening to me. I’m going to do my absolute best to make it entertaining and insightful.
-Please at least be technically proficient. Maybe give the commentators some instructions as to how far away to be when they speak into the mic, and how to keep their levels consistent? This elementary problem plagues 95% of gaming livestreams it seems. You can show excitement and hype with your voice without yelling, shouting, screaming and blowing out the levels.
-Please keep whoever was the main commentator at ECT 2 far, far away from this stream. He basically broke every single rule of on-air broadcast, was extremely annoying, and had absolutely no insight.
-Commentators, please do not scream stupid sound effects during supers or combos. You are a stream commentator, not a random member of the audience. You also sound like a total dumbass/douche/tool when you do things like trying to say “get out of my face” like Cody during his super or “you’re boring me already”. Both this and the shout during the super hits can be witnessed in . We should never be forced to witness that douchebaggery again.
As far as I know there will be no secondary stream, and I completely agree with you. Melty is more interesting to watch than TvC, and semis should at least be streamed. I(n fact, I’d go so far as to say that semis for every game should be streamed.
So, we know which matches will be streamed, but will there be more matches that will be recorded, for instance for an Evo DVD or similar bundle like the 2009 IGN thing?
(Incidentally, what are we getting this year in terms of recorded footage, at all?)
It is with great pleasure for me to announce that the list of commentary guys for TEKKEN 6 will obviously be… The sexiest group of gentlemen in the room.
Why does TvC, a game that almost nobody has or will ever care about, get three hours of pool play time on the live stream while HDR, MBAA and MvC2 get the shaft? I assume this is a case of “he who pays the piper calls the tune”; would be nice if you were honest about it. While minor is itself, this is likely an indication of where things are headed post-SF4, where money, rather than the community, makes the decisions. $RK get hype!
If you took 5 seconds to look at the Evo Schedule instead of just assuming the worst, you would see that there’s NOTHING going on for those three hours except TvC and SSF4 pools. So the choice is not between TvC and MBAA or MvC2.
If you want to bitch that we’re showing too much SSF4 at the expense of MBAA or SSF4, go ahead. I’m basing the stream schedule off of Evo registration numbers and SRK traffic logs to determine the relative interest of each game. What are you basing your critique on?
maybe nobody is interested in the other games because theyre never on any streams lol. i’m not surprised srk traffic logs would show a bias towards ssf4 considering most people on this site now are stream monsters who’ve never played another sf game. tournament attendance is another matter of course.
Is it stream or bust this year? DVDs? Digital downloads of individual files like IGN? Downloads of an .iso file or one large file? I hope that there is a way to watch the event after it’s over that’s not simply a recording of the live stream.
Concur with the requests for clarification – what games and matches will be recorded, if any? Surely this won’t just be streamed? Watching streams live is awesome, but on playback the stream quality gets to you more.
Replace him with Chris Hu and you have my opinion. However, I can understand why they wouldn’t be the best fit for a broadcast like Evo…
Also, there’s no need to worry about sf4answers guy. The only reason he got to do commentary for ECT and Devastation was because he was a sponsor at those events, and I don’t see him on the Evo list.
