EVO Top 8/32 Character Usage Analysis

…what about Wright gives you any indication that he’ll have high health?

The fact that I’ve actually played the games.

:B

So have I. The first one at least.

Unless you’re telling me that somewhere in the sequels he shows a level of vitality equal to Chris, Hulk, or Thor…

In later games it gets a little crazy. “Getting hit by a car and suffering only minor injuries, as of Apollo Justice” crazy.

PWright for 1.1m.

PWright for 1.3m

Can you imagine the salt about a 1.3m stam character with the obvious divekick-stuffer that is “Objection!”?

We could make a sea of all the tiny baby tears.

do want

Did anybody else notice that X-Ray and Combofiend were the only two players in the top 8 that weren’t using either phoenix or wolvie?

Damn you need your Robo Giant back. Haha, good shit though. I wanted you to go farther man.

I have the feeling next year’s totals in Ultimate will see Akuma dropping like a stone. He’s decent even without Tatsu assist, but without Tatsu assist /and/ with a significant health nerf, I doubt he’ll be part of the rushdown game in the same way.

Wesker will probably stay where he is, though. Everything I’ve heard about him except the health nerf has been ‘still scary,’ which means we’ll probably still see him.

They were the also the only two that didn’t have an assist character or a phoenix… Viscant has both on his team, and he won.

Next year’s stats

Phoenix Wright: 100%

That objection is so broken.

I thought there were two Dormammu players, myself and Filipino Champ with his Magneto/Dormammu/Phoenix team.

Damn didn’t even notice but then again, I barely watched top 8 since most of the peeps I was rooting for didn’t make it. Fingers crossed the quality of the rest of the cast improves in umvc 3.

Champ used mostly Dormamu, not Sentinel. I’m also not surprised that not a single sentinel player made top 8. The only one I was expecting to have a chance was Fanatiq. But this also goes back to my old statement that it’s just too difficult to beat a great player when you have sentinel on your team.

Outside of the assist, the robot is a liability most of the times. In higher play, it becomes increasingly more difficult to randomly land those crouching Ms or frying pans. He’s very true definition of a “scrub killer” (this is just a term, this is not implying that if you get beaten by sent you are a scrub).

Honestly, there’s something wrong when the character is 3x the size of wolverine but has less health and is twice as slow.

As powerful and nutty as he was, I liked Sentinel in MvC2. He was powerful, but he had a significant skill barrier to breach too. There was a significant difference between a good sentinel player and a bad one. In this game, the character is so shallow, that there are marginal differences between sentinel gameplay from different skill tiers, all which end up to be not very effective in higher levels of play (as indicated by the data).

So here’s to Capcom hopefully giving Sentinel his life back and tinkering him to be more true to his MvC2 nature (but not as blatantly powerful). That is all I am hoping for in UMvC3.

Fuck it, all of his normals should chip again.

Make him stomp again, without refly and little chip only on j.:RH. Make fly mode have faster startup and beam a little faster.

Damnit GcYoshi, took the words right out of my mouth. If he wasn’t so ridiculously ‘I’m going to take up the whole screen with a rocket punch’ then I’d agree on buffs of any sort. But unfortunately, he’s not, and I sure as hell don’t want to deal with that robot anymore than I already have to.

I agree with everything you said in the first paragraph. But honestly, I highly doubt doubt they will give sentinel health back. If you think about it… even though Sentinel is 3x the size of Wolverine… Wolverine slices through Sentinels like butter in the comics. IMO Sentinel being a fragile character is more true to his nature in the lore as Sentinels were basically the putty patrol of X-Men. I DO however agree that he is VERY shallow. I think a mobility buff is a better option for him or perhaps better zoning in the form of a tracking projectile like Dante’s missles. While health is good like you said at high level play, he is shallow, so a deeper sent metagame in the form of mobility or zoning options would be much better in my opinion.
