Awesome listing :wonder:
OK, here are the results I’ve got from B5 to 06. I tried to include characters when I could. Some of them may not be right because I tried to navigate all of the menus on my computer and some of the early DVDs’ menus weren’t really made for the computer. I may have clicked on the wrong matches.
I had to pull out a VCR and fast forward through the tapes for B4. Hope you guys appreciate it!
—B4 (2000)—
These tapes only show top 4, plus random other matches. I kind of guessed at the 5th place finishers where possible, but it’s very likely that they’re wrong.

CG, you need to change whom JackieTran used in Tekken4, it was Jin whom he won the entire tournament with, not Steve. In the 2k4 finals, he used Steve for one set only, and lost in it, however the rest was a Jin mirror match. Lol…I remember those T4 days…Jin, Jin, Jin,
.
OK, thanks. Yeah, I obviously didn’t watch all these matches, so most of the characters I listed are basically whoever the person used for the very first match.
It’s pretty interesting to see the evolution of character selection over the years, especially in games like MvC2 and CvS2, whose lifespans basically coincide with the EVO tournaments. Also, in the few years where Soul Calibur II was in the tournament, there was very little character overlap, which seems pretty amazing to me.

Awesome list, brings back memories, thanks dude.
i remember in 2002, there were hella N groove users and few a groove users. LOL
2k5 was the year of the completely wacked out PS1 ST if I remember correctly. So many “WTF?!?!?” moments that year!
They used ps1 for ST that year? I thought it was usually grand master challenge for dreamcast that they used back then for ST.
Updated post #29 with the B4 results.
It’s really funny to watch some of these old matches. Everyone was super scrubby.
Yep, I believe the reasoning stated was not being able to get enough Dreamcasts to run both ST and MvC2 at the same time, and various complaints about the DC version of ST not being “arcade perfect”. Evo was pretty much the only console only major tournament at the time, and a lot of ST players were asking for arcade ST because they thought the differences between arcade and DC ST were too drastic… instead, they tried out the PS1 version, which ended up having even more drastic and really wacky differences compared to the arcade and DC version… like certain moves reacted completely different than arcade, different button inputs for moves, etc. I believe NKI had a part in deciding on the PS1 version for that year, maybe he can shed some more light on the exact reasoning if I’m remembering incorrectly.
Pretty much once everything went console only, ST has been kind of a mess. They’ve tried DC, PS1, went to Anniversary Edition for a year, and then Capcom Classics Collection Vol 2, and each one has had it’s faults and nobody was really happy. For me, the only year that seemed like the arcade/console comparison was moot was when they used Anniversary Edition, since it was technically a “new” game, and not ST, so there’s no need to compare the two. I guess that’s the same thing we’re getting now with SFHD.
You need to go back and read forum rule number 14. loool

Wasn’t there an East Coast / West Coast thing for Marvel one year?
Yeah, there were also a number of US vs Japan events.

Good stuff this should be on the srk wiki, if it hasn’t been put up yet. Last I remember it was not nearly this detailed.
I have a document on me that I haven’t looked at in over 2 years that chronicled results from almost every major tournament (2001-present). I’ll post up some extended results of Evo soon enough.
^ Wow dude, that’s awesome!
Necro bump: anybody have pre-2000 results for Battle by the Bay? Specifically, ST results for B1 (1997), B2 (1998) and B3 (1999).
