There’s 8 pools, and the top 2 players per pool advance on. This means there’s only 16 players in the semi-finals tournament. So this means that if you make it past your pool, you’re in the top 16 at evo!
Losses carry over from pools to the semi-finals.
If you win 2 games in the semi-finals, you’re in the top 8.
The tournament structure makes pools very hard this year. Last year the top 4 from each pool made it in to the main tournament, and your losses were reset. But last year, the main touranment was 64 people. So this year only 2 advance per pool, but the “main tournament” is only 16 people. Pools are just as hard and count just as much as the main tournament. I’m asking the cannons to keep all pool brackets because I want to keep track of those too.
I think my buddy ScrubyDan got shafted in CVS2 pools Tokido and Buktooth are in there with him, HAHAHA!
edit: damn my 3s brackets aren’t looking any better, Ricky O is looking like he’s gonna be the winner of my pools for sure. I hope I get to face Sirlin first round in ST!
So the first time I went my first round opponent in Marvel was ShadyK and my first round opponent in CvS2 was Wattson. I got squashed by ShadyK because I fucked up (game one, accidental tag; game 2, accidental alpha counter) and my realization was that: anyone can beat anyone. So don’t be intimidated. Play your game, play what you know, and make them beat you. Fuck, last year (and I don’t want to make an issue of this so I won’t name names) I was just giving a match away to someone when I realized that he wasn’t really as good as people thought he was - if I had been actually Playing To Win, I probably would have won. Afterwards I kicked myself for losing to the hype not the player.
Most of you clearly have been playing against some really good players already, so while you may not have played against Ricky or whomever, you’ve probably seen more of how they play then they have seen you play - which gives you a minor advantage.
There’s probably an experience gap, but there may not be as much of a skills gap as you think as long as you keep your head on straight.
