EVO Player's Choice - CONGRATS SSBM! (Mike Z's closing remarks on OP)

Companies donating to charity is scummy? Shut up.

cvs2 or fucc the world to be honest

brb calling Hevad :coffee:

Here are some rules for the Smash or MLP players attending Evo 13’:

  1. Don’t sperg out if you loose

  2. Take a shower or douse yourself with expensive cologne

  3. Don’t act like an idiot (see #1)

Everybody cherish this moment, because I am about to agree with Raz0r on something related to businesses/money.

Even given the possibility of ulterior motives, charitable donations are still noble. In the grand scheme of things, if it means stuffing the ballot box for some contest that’s completely irrelevant outside a small niche community, who gives a shit?

And even if they get a tax incentive for doing it, they still do it. Good is still accomplished. They’re being rewarded for passing some of their riches onto the community in which they exist, which is better than, I don’t know, being rewarded for poisoning babies or something.

BO covered up with cologne still smells like BO covered up with cologne.

Much better…too much cologne is almost as bad.

I wasn’t talking about companies with the scummy statement. Before a donation cap was placed in Indie Humble Bundle dudes would buy the bundle for a $0.01 and sell the codes for those games for their own benefit thus cheating the developers and the charity. This is assuming that criteria is based on the amount of backers instead of money raised.

The donations are hidden, because of people like you.
It’s not about “uh, that game has 5 bucks more donated than our game! let’s donate 6 to beat it!”

It gives the different fans/communities of the games an opportunity to literally put their money where their mouth is. You want your game to be on the main stage? You believe in that game? Then show it.
It’s not some petty bidding contest to outbid your opponents. It’s not about getting just enough money to beat somebody else. It’s about showing support for your game. If you are discouraged by the fact that you could donate to breast cancer research and your game couldn’t make it/you don’t get anything back, don’t donate. But to only donate if you think your game has a chance to make it isn’t my idea of support.

Want Guilty Gear more than anything because I love that game and it is incredibly entertaining to watch. Even without ponies and smash it had stiff competition on top of the “lol anime” mentality of the community.

I respect Melee as a difficult game but I just find high level tournament smash boring as sin to watch.

Actually interested in playing ponies and if nothing else it would be different, donated equally to it and GG.

Results are hidden because likely more money will be gained if people aren’t discouraged and go “there’s no chance”, thus holding onto their money.

If you did know there was like a 40K gap between gap would you donate? If you knew it was $40?

I like that you target that at MLP and Smash players as if this isn’t an issue with the fgc already. Let’s not delude ourselves here.

if $40 gets cvs2 in there for sure then I am down for the count!>:(

My Little Pony is still in the lead by a significant margin.

A free to play game that could run on like any cheap laptop with video out would probably be welcome to EVO’s bottom line.

MvC1 we in there? :o

if MLP gets in…who seriously plays it? I never even hear of it being at any tournaments

smash events are run far more concisely and efficiently than fgc events generally (and smell better). also i don’t think mlp fans are any more fanatical than the anime fans that show up to fgc with these issues

Game isn’t even finished as far as i know

I also think that this method was chosen because EVO wants to reach to those who are actually attending EVO.
Given that signups aren’t even available and 1 game isnt even decided yet, it’s really hard to reach out only to those who are attending whom in my opinion have the stronger voice when it comes to deciding the lineup.

Anybody can vote in a facebook poll, but few would actually stand up to contribute for their game. I’d bet that by the time this is done, the number of donors would be much closer to the number of attendants in the tournaments than it would have been compared to the Facebook poll.

eey, but in the FGC we have UFGT which runs with German efficiency :lovin:

With clear, definite goals, I’m sure it’d be easier to rally a community’s efforts. To clear a 40K gap, people would be more willing to donate $10, knowing that the rest of the community would be able to cover the remaining $39990. As it is, people are just shooting in the dark.
