Ye and the competitive Smash community decided that Items, some Maps, and whatever else should not be an actual part of “their” game.
You want to change a competitive game into some stupid mess (note: I’m not playing Smash, I go by “The people who play it don’t want it and probably know what they’re talking about”) because it’s “more fun for spectators”.
You might as well ban Morrigan in UMvC3 because it’s more fun for (most) spectators that way.
I don’t know how much of an impact unbanning <X> has on Smash, but I’d rather trust the actual competitive community than some casual who says it’s more fun for stream monsters that way.
went and looked for a video after Keits comment about them. Seems pretty cool.
I guess your right man. I’m not part of the Smash competitive scene. I mostly just watch and play it for fun. I watched some of the videos with Smash Balls allowed and it looks really fun. It gets really tense when a ball appears on the screen and then even more tense once someone has it. The way CPU dodged that Final Smash in the video was pretty cool, even to an outsider like me.
All the said, getting more people to enjoy watching FG tournaments would be good for the scene. I’d like to see Starcraft numbers at EVO.
I dunno, I love watching ChrisG play. It’s fun to see the dynamic of zoning vs rush and I’m glad it’s in MvC3. Makes the game more varied then rush vs rush. That fact that zoning is viable is, for me, a testament to how deep marvel3 is. Also, they game is still relatively young. People are finding out new stuff all the time.
I think it’ll be down to MLP and Melee.
The only concern MLP players/fans should be worried about is that Mane6 wants to make sure that FG fans are donating for MLP and not really bronies: http://www.mane6.com/2013/01/fighting-is-magic-at-evo-2013.html
it’s really bizarre reading this thread as a melee player, i feel like i’m in on the outside looking in. i’d like to try to clear up some misconceptions people may have about us, as i’m not gonna say i’m the end-all, be-all about my community.
about melee trying to get into EVO
-DO NOT TAKE THAT THREAD AS THE WHOLE MELEE COMMUNITY. there were a bunch of stupid randoms in that thread, and respected players/community members were shaking their heads at the idiocy.
-for EVO staff to a try a ruleset with items in brawl was valiant, but ultimately i think melee players as a whole have not accepted brawl, similar to mvc2 players not accepting mvc3.
-we play a 12-year old game. of course we’re going to lobby as hard as possible and be resentful against any challengers, be it MLP, or a supposed company donating an exorbitant fee to get in (unlikely as that is). and yet i see melee being a force for a while, way longer than nintendo intended, that’s for sure.
-ever since we got kicked off EVO and MLG, some players have had stupid theories about the FGC being completely and utterly against us. while we’re not wholly admired here, i get the feeling there’s hardly any real animosity between melee and the fighting game community.
also graphf, i think items are wrong in being used because it detracts skill, and while i don’t like brawl, it applies to both games, especially if you used smash balls for brawl. melee has an enormous amount of depth, and items make that depth non-existent. the developers intended to people to play smash however they want to. competitively, for us, that means no items.
Uhh… I am not entirely certain I see any sort of organization going on at all. To me, its more a random assortment of opposing factions based on ill-information with a few select people feeling the want or drive to try changing things, which itself is usually a minority.
Another thing about items, unlike PSAS most of the items are busted as fuck, which wouldn’t be too bad except for exploding crates and capsules. It’s randomly chosen which crates will explode when you go for them with no way to know and no way to disable them in melee, Brawl I can’t remeber if you can or not. I know there are crates that are marked as explosive but normal crates and capsules can still explode.
Get into a situation where you dominate most of the match getting your tech options covered for example and combos down, then all of a sudden randomness happens and ruins your match and a possible win. Yea… I think I would understand why items are removed and generally hated by most people who like to take pride in there skills and want matches to reflect that.
If Melee gets in where are the EVO organizers going to get CRTs anyway? I imagine they could beg the smash community for Wiis and Gamecubes but I don’t think shipping CRTs will be a trivial task.
Watching one group of nerds being scared of or angered by another group of nerds.
The amount of hate and disgust is simply amazing and ironic considering how the “FGC” is viewed by mainstream gaming outlets and people jumping to conclusions about the entire FGC based off the actions of a few people or videos on youtube.
