Evo is coming. Are we fighting anchor Vergil wrong? Did Justin do the wrong thing?

might as well just play magneto/mor/phoenix if you want to play that team
fly around and gain meter

I would if I hadn’t already devoted 10 million hours into Doom

I know my team sucks, but Phoenix is my favorite char in the game by far so I have to make her work, I’m sure I’ll make changes to my team over time and develop different strategies. I have tried out at least half the cast, from RR to Jill and it’s still a work in progress. Yes, I even used Vergil at one point, but now I detest him, which is why this is a good thread. Vergil must be defeated, although with so many Vergils in top 8s, it’s a losing battle at this point.

Snapping in problems isn’t the same as mvc2. Snap in commando or psylocke and if they block your mixup or you mess up your meaty setup, they are still ass characters who can’t do much. If you mess up or the Vergil player manages to worm his way out of your setup, which is easy with pushblock mash helm breaker, then you could lose the game. Only a few characters have ways to mix him up guaranteed. Someone like morrigan can’t really instil any kind of fear into incoming Vergil after a snap.

Well if you’re talking top level play, the majority of good characters are the ones that can kill him off snaps pretty easy. Magneto, Viper, Zero, Wolverine, those are characters regularly played on point any way. It’s obviously not going to be the same, but the fact that he falls like a brick and can only use XF1 is still a lot better than falling with XF3.

Even if you were to use Morrigan, astral vision has anti pushblock properties built into it and with an assist could set something strong up in the corner also. People snapped Phoenix before and she could zip away and or/mash dive kick. If you’re afraid of the XF3 why wait for the XF3? People really need to man up and put set ups together instead of being afraid of buttons on incoming. Especially with a character that can’t even move during the incoming. We’ve been playing the game too long to still be scared of Vergil’s main weakness.

It’s nice that it isn’t Marvel 2, but it is Marvel 3 and shit can still be done.

You miss the part where vergil doesn’t have XF3 if you snap him in. Also, no “mixup” is guaranteed, but their are guard breaks that work against pushblock, and unblockable setups are perfect for vergil since his only air movement without DT is helm breaker.

Best course of action against the currently most feared team (morridoom/vergil) is land a hit on morrigan, snap in vergil, kill him on incoming, and then kill doom on incoming leaving you against XF3 morrigan, which as long as you have XF she can’t guard-cancel you for a free kill and if she makes a bad XF call and you still have yours, you can guard-cancel her.

Regardless what anyone says, vergil without XF, even with missiles behind him, is a much safer fight then XF3 vergil. I also believe that even in the case of a happy birthday, you should snap vergil in the moment the assist dies, especially if the point character doesn’t have a great assist to help vergil out with.

As for morrigan, she actually has a scary high-low mixup game if she can lock you down on the ground with an assist.

I say force capcom to release a damn patch. The hell with the “what do we do what do we do”. Storm unity, cause an uproar and get capcom to just patch the game. The patch can be just a strider buff if they don’t have time to do everybody.

maybe when they get the marvel license back… but as it stands if they alter the game they could be sued

Justin Wong is back baby.

Wow, there were only two teams in the top 16 with Vergil in the 3rd slot. Rog and Chris G (who doesn’t really play him anchor).
Only 3 others if you expand to top 32: Eita, Bubblan (half the time), and Too Much Damage.
Does this mean something?

Yeah, it means people need to stop thinking about tiers all the time and focus on what they themselves think will work, learn and evolve their team as they see it and not how the tier charts see it. The FGC’s mindset isn’t on point for umvc3 yet.

Noooo. If you have a derp ass incoming (wolverine, zero, anyone with jam sessions…seriously fuck jam session, etc…) you have a very valid chance of killing the snapped in character or putting them in a bad situation. This not only gives you a free shot to kill a problem that has been anchored, you can target assist shells or screw them with a reorder.

I lost running Cap/vergil/(doom(missile) to a Hawkeye/Task/RR(log). His strategy? Snap cap to anchor and bring doom out. Doom is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked in that match up and now cap is anchor. Completely worth losing a meter even though this team didn’t have an incoming set up.

morrigan/doom/vergil - get a hit on morrigan and snap in vergil

Dante jam session mixup gets a hit - can’t kill? combo until your at 1 meter and snap in doom

New team order = doom/vergil/morrigan

Most people will have a tac infinite to turn to or lightning loops or some way to kill after the first snap, but if not the opponents easiest and safest option to correct the order is spend 3 meters on dhcing all the way to astral vision.

This is a game of touch of deaths though, so double snapping this way 99% of the time will be a pointless endeavor.

…so punish the raw tag then! Isnt this supposed to be a game of OTKs?

If youre getting hit by the tag, calm down. Stop smashing buttons and wait for it
