So my thoughts why GTA players not evolving to the next level in SF:
I don’t see anyone is hungry for that top spot in GTA anymore. the whole gta community was doubting I was capable of beating E.Hai ft10 while back that just lit a fire under my ass to get hungry and prove everyone wrong. When i lost to Chi Rithy in 2 big tournaments back to back that lit a fire under my ass to beat him next time. I just watch the match up over and over and see my mistake and learn from it. at MAT7 I lost to JS agian for the how many times i don’t know and got 4th place. No one remembers fucking 4th 3rd or 2nd and i’m sick of getting those placement i want to win a big one. Im so hungry to win I picked up a new alternative main and even holding my stick a different way for better movements and executions.
For T11 to hype my owned ass up i’ll propose a ft7 $100 vs the top dog in gtasf JS Master. So i hope i inspire someone to set some goals and reach them to become a better player and help the community out.

It’s great to know that people who want to improve knows what they have to do to achieve it.
All in all, it was a great learning experience for all of us.

Anybody got pictures from the event?
Post that on flickr or something.

growing the community is a two way street. While the OGs do go hard on the newcomers at times, the newcomers can’t just show up and expect everything to be handed to them. We dont’ all need to be friends, but we do need to work together if the community is to grow as a whole.

Back in the CvS2 days I remember some advice about leveling up with your training crew. Tell your training crew how to beat you. What you setups you like to do and how to beat it. This way if that tactic not work in tournament, you have another tactic lined up for the match. If you don’t know how your tactic can be beaten, then experiment. Sit in training mode either by yourself and record the tactic you’re using, and play it back on you and see what can be done to counter/beat it.

When you’re training, it’s more important to know why you lost rather than to win. I feel that alot of new players dont’ think about this point, and to some extent, doesn’t even know how to study a match. Fundamentals like spacing/footsie/mixup is lost on some of the new players. From what I gather alot of the times they feel it’s pure guessing so they think they lost to random mash.

basically, do your homework, and train smart. If you have questions, ask them. there are plenty of people in #gtasf that are quite open to answering any questions you have, regardless of how basic/scrubby it seems.

I?ve been playing since SF1, so perhaps I can help with a little perspective.

Developing the social aspect of the scene is going to be crucial if you really want to level up. People used to have no choice but to go to the arcade to play and that alone forced the community to mingle, learn, get better and master matchups, if only to avoid having to wait another 20-30 mins for their next turn on the machine. You don?t have to be friends, but there has to be a minimum level of respect and communication maintained. Working together often helps too.

There?s so much information out there. We used to have to get barely playable VHS tapes that were mailed across North America to get stuff from TZW etc. Now I can just search the net to find fantastic matches and go to forums to tell me which button is best to press in whatever situation. Use these resources to help fill in gaps.

A lot of raw talent is around the GTA. I?ve also met some good people too who are genuinely interested in taking things to the next level and I haven?t even had the chance to go to a lot of tournaments and events. When I quit games to do work and school, the scene was getting more and more niche and the talent seemed to be declining.

JS: losing in front of a crowd can be the best motivation ? run with it. I was watching the stream and rooting for you.

Another thing that lacks is communication. For instance, when I play somebody and I keep beating them I give them advice constantly while we are playing. I know some people might not appreciate this, but for the most part most people want to hear what you have to say if your advice is good. I’ve had Marvel sessions where I lost 30 straight, yet I kept on playing because my opponent was talking to me. This was back in the old days when Marvel was still in it’s good old days…

This makes the most sense without a doubt…

Hahaha. What kind words from Arturo and Chris Hu. They are correct, JS Master is not free.
