What are you TALKING about? The EVO 2015 finals included more footsies than all the SF5 tournaments combined.
I’m not gonna argue with your troll comment, but for the uninitiated: good fighting games allow a wide range of playstyles and tactics. Defensive, aggressive, command grabbers, solid and honest, spazzing out crazy with 50/50’s. Characters in USF4 cover a huge range of playstyles.
In USF4, you can have matches that consist ENTIRELY of honest footsies, and other matches that consist of chaotic gameplay and crazy gambits. In both cases, you need incredible execution and skill to pull off a win, which is why we see the same top 1% dominating the scene. Street Fighter 5 allows much LESS footsies, but is purely based on stale, solid play, because of the reduced speed, no gambits, and redundant ease of whiff punishing.
As for stockholm syndrome, I think someone who has faith in a bankrupt company with a terrible track record, who butchered all of their franchises and recently made a crappy fighting game (SFxT), is the textbook definition of stockholm syndrome.
Lastly, it doesn’t matter if Capcom and Sony put lots of money behind SF5. Other companies have tried that in the past, all they do is kill the successful scene of the predecessor. Two years from now, you’ll see a scene that’s shrinking, and huge alterations to the engine to try and save the game. In the end, it will fail, because the ground idea behind SF5, from the reduced complexity, making everything more basic, animations and terrible character art and animation style, is flawed. Much in the same way SFxT was flawed, and for the same reasons. “Experts” trying to make “reactions and superior play” the only factors in the match, and removing all the fun…err I mean random non-street fighter bullshit, from the game.
SF5 WILL fail, unless the entire game is overhauled from scratch, along with Ken’s face, Ryu’s terrible animations, Birdy’s sloppy animations (chain going throgh necklace), and a bunch of other signs that it’s a rushed piece of dung, and later we’ll see a revival of the USF4 scene or another franchise dominating the scene.
