from these results it looks like pr rog or jago are the most consistant in majors on the ec. I hope we are well represented at evo whoever is on the team. I can pretty much guess the wc team. Justin W, viscant, combofiend, marn, floe.
What all those results tell me?
1)Partly due to the “ExPats Fighting game vagabond trio” of Justin, Marn, and Floe: WC has a huge advantage over EC at this time.
2)The captain choices for EC aren’t the most consistent players. Yipes isn’t in the top 16 for any major, NerdJosh has yet to crack a top 5, Jago’s only medal placing was at the sparsely attended MAT, and Noel Brown got the “Justin Yellow Card” bump. That’s not knocking them per se, but when you look at the West Coast Captain selections, all of them have won Majors except maybe Filipino Champ and he just got 2nd at Revelations.
3)PRBarlog and Chris G are the only real locks at this moment. Everything else should be on the table at East Coast Throwdown. I expect the VA killers (RyRy and moose) to both make top 8.
All the results prove is that the game is random plus WB was 2 weeks after the game came out so that Va placing is kinda eh, top 4 in the ec are chrisg, jago, nerdjosh, josh wong, and THEN it should be opened up at ECT…

Lol. even nerdjosh himself has said that moose is better than him, and they play practically the same team. I like RyRy and Moose over those four all day. Bet it.

Yipes already stated his intention in the other thread that he didn’t want to be in the 5v5, don’t know why he was included in the poll. This needs a do-over. But anyway, hard choice between Chris G and Twisted Jago, gotta go with Chris G on this one though. NerdJosh has been slipping lately. Maybe his team change will work out better for him.

A few people suggested that we run a 5v5 qualifier at ECT3 next weekend to decide the team. I’m pasting this from over on our thread, but let us know what you guys think and if you have any suggestions about it.

OK, so here’s what we were thinking about the Marvel 5v5 qualifier. I’m going to lay down a few options as well as a few reasons as to why we think they are good and/or bad options. REMEMBER THESE ARE JUST SUGGESTIONS, NOTHING IS SET IN STONE.

32 or 64 man invitational. We sit down a hand pick 32 or 64 of the best Marvel vs Capcom 3 players on the coast to date, that are registered at the tournament already. We liked this idea because it keeps the tournament small and manageable, but we don’t like it because some people would suspect favoritism, and it also rules out anyone who wants to join and take a shot at the title.

A straight up 128 man bracket, you be honest with yourself and if you think you have a shot, you enter. Meh, this doesn’t really work too well for obvious reasons.

This is the one we really like. We take the top 32 or 64 people from the MvC3 singles tournament on Saturday and those people are entered into the 5v5 qualifier.
With all of these tournaments, the Top 5 people will be awarded spots on the team. Since there will be two people in 5th place, those people will probably have the most hype match of the night to claim a spot on the team.
Here is the main concern we have about running this tournament:
We’re going to have a ridiculous amount of people in AE, MvC3, and MK9, guaranteed. We’re already up to like 220 pre-registrations and there’s still a day left, and we all know how last minute we all are when it comes to registration. Plus, we’re going to get a lot of at the door registrations. It’s inevitable, this tournament is going to be ridiculously large. Because of this, we’re concerned as to when this tournament can actually run at ECT3. The only viable time is AFTER pools are finished on Saturday. This means that the tournament is going to run very late, probably like 2-3am. We have the venue space for 48 hours straight, and we won’t be bothered. Sundays are finals and we really don’t want to detract attention from those who deserve it.
We’re more than open for suggestions about this, and I’m going to put this into the EVO thread as well to see what people think over there. Let us know!
Takin top 32 or 64 is a good way to do it…playing for spots is the best way. Hand picking is fine if its based on past performances.
I’d have voted for Jago if that didn’t mean voting Triforce as shadow-team captain.
Just to be clear, Evo decides who the team captain is. From there, the captain can either pick the team, or hold a qualifier at their descretion.
The captain does not not have to be on the team.
That was my feeling as well.
The only problem with running full tourneys is that even a 32 double elim bracket will take 2-3 hours and resources… and you guys will have a lot on your plate.
Not to mention the reality that a double elim tourney only produces accurately the 2 best players, everyone else is a bracket crapshoot. There are also people who can’t make it to ECT but are going to EVO. The stipulation of East and Central time zones does include all the way to Texas, you know.
And the third problem against this method is that its possible to have very low team variety. If 5 wolvi/sent/akuma teams win, then so be it.
That’s not the best way to build a team. Ask the U.S. 4 Rufus team that got blown up by a gief player in Vanilla.
The best way is to build it like a sports team. Get a “coach” or GM who is good at evaluating talent, and then putting together different styles keeping in mind the probable West Coast opponents (Justin, Viscant, Combofiend are locks, the other two could be a cornucopia of players)
You could do this at ECT by selecting this “GM” and having them get a list of all the possible 5on5 team members. Track their matches vs each other in the singles and teams tournies.
*I.E. *
"Nerdjosh (Shulk/Task/Tron) vs Remix (Mag/Sent/Wesk) in singles: nerdjosh wins 2-1, she hulk was ineffective, taskmaster won 1st match, Tron lucked out 3rd by guard cancel level 3. "
If X was eliminated twice by phoenix, that’s something to note, because WC will have one (possibly two) good phoenix teams.
If certain players in consideration don’t play each other (very likely) , the coordinator can ask them to play each other in however long of a set he wants.
Ideally, all results, notes, observations, and judgement will be transparent, and presented when the selections are made.
So basically my suggestion boils down to: play for your spots in the singles/team tourneys, and a GM selects the players based on that performance and his observations.

Lemmie make this very fucking clear, if i was at all Team Captain which being Team Captain i dont care for 1. Besides me being a member of EMP would have nothing to do with it. EMPIRE does not represent Easts coasts therefore if we were gonna do anything Team based that represents our brand we would not have any involvement with any player outside of EMP. 2. My picks for the Team would not be based on any qualifier or tournament performance, if Easts would get there head from out there ass and realize just how much there actually lacking in this game compared to west coasts better decisions could and would be made. But i already know this posts is going to fall upon the deaf ears of those who wanna see a popularity contest or wanna rep there state, its like fuck your state! nobody cares its East vs West Me and Remix have both been on the West coasts SOCAL where it matters and im telling right now these motherfuckers are full of 1 hit kills and most importantly can use all 3 characters unlinke east coasts who can only use 1 maybe 2 at most then theres a cheap assists on the team that gets fucked up. And why the fuck is EMP not next to Yipes’s name like he’s not EMP jesus christs somebody get that shit right already.
